Well if things couldn't get worse for me it did. One of Kev's crowns came out Saturday we called the dentist and the blasted pain didn't call him back till Monday. Last night Kev went to the dentist and they put a temporary crown in until his next dental visit! Grr, I am so angry I could scream!

I have a mouse in my house. When I got up this morning, I saw something run across my kitchen floor and into the dishwasher. The Clark Pest Control guy came out and found mouse droppings under my kitchen sink. He set out a bunch of traps. I don't think I'll get much sleep tonight. :girl:

Don't feel too bad Starbuck. We have mice too. My youngest
daughter had to get something to 'show' for her kindegarten
class that started with the letter "M". {You 'see' where this
is going?}

Well she put some cheese in her backpack {without my
knowledge ..... of course.}.

In the morning I went to put her lunch in her backpack and
what should jump out and land on my nose ...........but
the very same 'mouse' that she 'lured' into her backpack the
night before.

I screamed ........ and in one JUMP I was ONTOP of the TIPSEY
Top of the couch. "But MAMMMMMMMMAAAAAA I need
something that starts with the letter 'M'!!!!!!!!!!!!!",
she wailed as the hapless mouse ran underneath the
couch.

When my heart stopped pounding in my THROAT .......
I talked her into taking the TOY mouse instead.

I can LAUGH about that now ....................

amberstar
January 6th, 2004, 07:17 PM
Sounds like it may be time to get a cat Starbuck.

I used to rent a house while going to college and had mice too, they got into everything in the kitchen. YUCK, it was a mess.

LOL Amberstar! If I weren't allergic to cats to the point of
getting Hives EVERYWHERE .........I'd get one. My dog used
to love to hunt the mice to eat ............. he's too old now.

He just lays there ........kind of nods his head once in awhile...
..........as though he's actually awake ........and as the mouse
goes by it's as though he's saying ...................................

"YEPPERS it's a mouse."

Amber

Ya know, the frog/prince thing really isn't so far off base. I think all guys in general are kinda unfavorable on the outside (emotionally/personality-wise) just like a frog - it's up to the right woman to coax the prince out of him. I think any guy can be a prince if he will just realize how lucky he really is to be with you. That's all the magic you really need.

Can you help me?
I’m solving a trivia question and I need to know ¿what happens to Baltar on the Battlestar Galactica movie?

Did he turns in to a hero?
Somebody kill him?
Di he died starving?
Di he died choked?

Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.
I’m from México and it’s not esay to find this kind of information.

Welcome to the Fleets, Perrito.

Which movie are you asking about? The original from 1978, or the miniseries that was just shown?

I'm really not shure...
on the trivia question they are asking me about the "Battlestar Galactica Movie"

I guess that they are asking me about the original movie, because I guess that there are no new versions of the movie, ¿rigth?

Is there only a trailer or something??

Dawg
January 13th, 2004, 10:38 AM
In The Beginning.... ;)

In 1978, a three-hour TV pilot was filmed for the series. They also edited a two-hour theatrical movie from that. Baltar's fate differed in each.

In the two-hour movie, he was beheaded by the Cylons. In the three-hour pilot, he was spared, given a baseship, and set out in pursuit of the Galactica and its rag-tag fleet. He was the big bad guy in the series, revelling in his evilness.

I suspect, though, that your friends are asking about the new miniseries that the Sci-Fi channel showed last month.

That Baltar survived. I can't tell you much more than that, except that he was kind of a namby-pamby character with no real depth; I didn't watch more than a few minutes of it since it was boring and I didn't recognize much "Battlestar Galactica" in it at all.

There are others here who could tell you more, though; some of them even liked the miniseries, believe it or not.

;)

Edit: Oh, and there is a follow-up trailer, a 4-minute "proof of concept" film that Richard Hatch did a few years ago, trying to sell the idea of a Battlestar Galactica movie. Unfortunately, that is not widely available, and is only shown at conventions where Mr. Hatch appears.

Enjoy your time here!

Thank you very much for your help. I really apreciate it. I think that my problem is solved.

I guess that they are refering to the 1979 two-hour theatrical movie, because it's the only one that seem to be more a movie than a mini-series.

Sorry for my bad english and again thanks!!!!

Hi all! Well, while my better half is off in Central America, I have been keeping busy making my first full CD, inspired by our beloved OWD. This is such a neat time, I remember paying like $50 to typeset a song once, (plus color seps and so forth) now you can do such wonders all at home with a PC. With the right materials and tools, you can create photo quality booklets and labels, which is something new and fun for me (although I must admit I'm a bit slow at it as I learn how). I've had the songs for a while but all on multitrack not CD. I edited out my voice so they're all instrumentals, and I put the lyrics in the booklet. That way hopefully someday I can get someone like my brother perhaps to do the vocals.

It's awfully fun, kinda like doing musings set to music. My New Year's rez is to buy all of OWD's CDs, I hear a new one is coming out soon.

Cheers all,
:muffit:

If you have any worries about an email, I would notify your abuse department about both emails. abuse@aol.com if you are on aol.

Hi IrishKay!

That's one thing I've experienced a lot. My best advice is to sit down and talk this over with him. One thing many couples do (myself included) is, as they get closer, to want to know where and what the other is doing as often as possible. I think this is just part of getting close to someone, we start to feel too possessive. In the beginning this may feel like, aw, he cares! But later it can get pretty annoying for one party or the other (I've seen both guys and gals complain about this).

I'm no counselor, but I feel the best thing we can do is always to talk things out. The other person needs to trust you. And unless you're on a long trip with possible dangers, they need to give you some breathing space.

Sometimes just imagining that a person may be driven away by over-possessiveness is often enough to help them understand our need to feel we have some individual freedom. I find I need to remind myself every day, and sometimes still forget. The level of trust grows with time, talking sometimes is all that is needed to speed that up.

Hope this is helpful!

thank you muffit for your help... and i agree with you on the talking it over with each other. i try to be kind and tolerant and to talk with him to let him know that i do know how he feels when he cannot get ahold of me because i feel the same way about him sometimes when i cannot get ahold of him..and i also tell him that because i like him so much that i do not want to overwhelm him or make him feel confined.. at the same time i have to make myself relax and just try him back sometime later.. much later.. and i have told him this. i have even told him that i do not want to be over possesive with him just as i hope he does not want to be that way with me however he says he understands but that sometimes he cannot help himself kind of thing. well i have told him that he needs to help himself not to be over possesive . sometimes i feel like he wants me to mother him.. and i have told him that i am not his mother.. i am his girlfriend. anyway.. he has not responded back to me on yahoo msg yet.. lol.. so .. i am thinking that he must be waiting for me to beg him to talk to me and that is just not going to happen anytime soon.. lol .. so now i am left waiting to see if he will contact me.. lol..

Hard to get - always works! :)

Don't feel bad if it takes a bit to find a happy medium. I've been married 14 years and sometimes we still each want to know too often where the other is. We do trust each other, a lot, we just worry if it's been awhile.

It takes time, and both sides need to try and understand the other and both give in a mite. But if he truly cares for you he will respect that you are an individual too. Help him to see that. Most of your teen/adult life you have been free to make your own choices and go places without someone checking in, and he needs to recognize that, perhaps by thinking of his own life. I have come to believe a mature relationship shares both concern /and/ trust. If he cares, he will come to understand. His feelings will help him.

Best of luck,
Muffit

I sincerely hope that you are in the best of health and your emotions are a contributing factor to great health and well being.. " well there was more however .. just how am i supposed to take that first sentence? at the end of the e card he goes on to say.. God loves you and so do i .. now,, does he love me with a agape love or a intimate love ? what or how do i respond to that.. because i do not feel exceptionaly good about this e-card.. i feel a little minimized here. am i taking this card the wrong way?

Hi IrishKay,

Hmm, got me on this one. I guess the best thing is just to ask.

On agape/epithumeo/eros/koinonia/phileo, I wish the English language had as many words for love as the Greek. It would sure help all of us understand our feelings better! :)

thank you muffit.. well the only thing about asking him is that i would have to prepare myself on a 30min talk well him talking and me listening as to what he meant by that.. lol and even after that he would ask me "now do u understand" lol so i am not certain i would be up emotionally for that enlightening discovery.. LOL .. OMG.. now where did that attitude come up from? LOL .. sorry .. i just need to go take a bubble bath i guess.. LOL..

" and then he says " oh okay i see your point and i am sorry i made you feel that way" .. oh okay then.. lol.. so anyway.. i did get a offline msgs from him on yahoo about 5 hours ago central time.. lol he said he tried to call me and that line was busy so he thought i would be online.. lol which i had not been online until later this afternoon.. anyway i have not heard back from him since.. lol so i guess later he might grace me with his phone call .. lol anyway emerita thank you for your response

Muffit, what is it about cream cheese you don't like?

I thought it was unAmerican to not like cream cheese....

It sounds to us (Mrs. Dawg is hanging over my shoulder, intrigued by the recipe, irishkay) like the cream cheese is there to provide richness (and maybe some "support" like in cheesecake, holding it together). Mrs. Dawg says you can substitute sour cream for cream cheese in some applications, but it would have to be a very good, whole (full fat) sour cream to work well. It may not work as a substitute in this recipe.

Why not ask the experts? At FoodTV.com there is a way to ask questions (we actually exchanged a couple of e-mails with Alton Brown once).

Excuse me while I print off the recipe.....

Thanks Dawg! Hmm, maybe I'll give the cream cheese a shot after all, if it's mainly for richness. I never acquired a taste for cheesecake for some reason (I know, I should have). I like to buy Jalapeno poppers, but don't like the cream cheese filled ones, just the cheddar. Well perhaps by looking at the recipe I won't really taste that so much as the other goodies, so what the heck?

Thanks!

Good Morning all... well slow morning here.. how is everyone else doing?.. i have to say that the relationship with my boyfriend is soon coming to an end.. and i am ready to let him go too.. it is sad really .. and am not looking forward in having that talk with him .
anysuggestions as to how to make the talk go more smoothly and not be extremely painful? any suggestions will help me .. thank you..

emerita
January 24th, 2004, 09:07 AM
There is no way to make it less painful, unless you do it online...but you need closure and the only way to do it is face to face. Remind him that you want to keep the good memories and unfortunately staying together would not result in any new ones. It is not good to stay in a relationship where you are not happy..... life is way to short for that. You should never have to take a single moment out of your day to wonder if what you will do, will make your mate mad...I lived that way for 15 years, always wondering if he was going to be mad at me for something when he would get home.... the stress of it can kill you. So just start out the talk with "I am not happy in this relationship and I deserve to be happy, no matter what. " Just stay strong and don't let him guilt you into staying because you will hate him for it and feel trapped.....and no offense to any of our guys here, but men have a way to make their mates feel guilty and bad for something they have never done. If he feels the same way about ending it,then you can breathe easier, but don't say "I want to be around if you need me".... because they will always call you with their problems... make a clean break..... do not even mention "let's stay friends"
...OK... I'll get off the soapbox now........

irishkay1970
January 24th, 2004, 09:12 AM
emerita thank you for your response and i agree with you.. especially the part you said about men making women feeling guilty about something that we as a woman have not done to begin with and of course it always "our" fault.. well he will be coming here to oklahoma on tuesday afternoon .. so i am going to have gather up my courage to talk to him that night which i want to make it a calm as possible too. so emerita thank you for your encouragement..

You are the only one that counts right now. Love yourself first and think of yourself first. I realize that I do not know your complete situation, but the way you sound, you are not an equal in this relationship. What Muffit says is true. You have to be able to talk to your mate, and be able to say what is in your heart. If he doesn't do that then it is better to get away. Never have to walk on eggshells around him... I have found that being alone is better than what I had. I was a slave to my husband and a prisioner....I shall never be that again.... My moment of clairty was when he was beyond anger because I told him that our children came before him....he said that he was #1 and that is the way it would be........nope...don't think so. I thought my world would end and it didn't...far from it.....

irishkay1970
January 24th, 2004, 10:34 AM
thank you emerita.. and yes you are right.. it is impossible to talk to him from or what is in my heart because he becomes offended and just within the last 3 days he has made mention to me that maybe i ought to find someone closer to my own age and on thursday night when we spoke on the phone i told him that i wanted to share with him what i had seen on t.v that day about what happens to relationships when they turn to longdistance relationships and the age gap for relationships over 5 years apart.. and he became very defensive with me! he began to go on about how honest he had been with certain subjects and that he sent me pics of where he is living and projects he is working on.. on which i responded to him to please "chill out" i told him that i did not tell him that to upset him nor was it a reflection on him .. now i did ask him why he got so upset and was there something he did need to tell me? because i assured him that i had only told him what i had seen on t.v. that day just to have a topic to discuss with him .. i assured him that i did not think that it was a reflection on him.. of course during that conversation it really hit home that he was indeed hiding something and i kept quiet after that and just got him to calm down. because last night he mentions again that maybe i should be with someone my own age but then he said that "i guess destiny has something else planned".. anyway, this morning i woke up and i decided right then in bed.. that i was going to put this roller coaster ride to an end... so thank you for your encouragement . and i will be happy to let you know the outcome of this situation when it happens..

Hi all, here's a really easy recipe in case you've never tried it!

This really nice couple used to invite me over a lot when I was young, and I got to like many of the dishes they made. Here's one. For tacos, instead of using corn tortillas, use /flour/ tortillas. They're bigger and more filling too. To cook them, you can either use a deep fryer, or, to save oil as I do, fill a medium frying pan with oil (the pan should be about the size of a tortilla), and only insert half the tortilla into the hot oil till that side is nice and brown, then fold it over and fry the other side. Let the oil drip off when you take it out and place on a paper towel to cool. But sprinkle it with salt first before it dries.

Then cook a pound or two of hamburger, spiced lightly with salt, pepper, and onion powder (sometimes I add chili powder). The nicely folded, big flour tortillas make great holders for stuff, so you can put in them whatever you like, including the meat of course, perhaps some sliced tomatoes and lettuce and shredded cheddar and monterey jack cheese. I like to top them with La Victoria Red Taco Sauce (sometimes the green too). The secret to good tasting flour tortilla tacos is not to overdo them with too much flavor like you would with traditional greasy corn tortillas - let most of the taste be the flour tortilla. Just made these again tonight, and the family likes them much better than traditional ones.

BTW, flour tortillas also make wonderful tasting home-made chips. Just heat a large frying pan or deep fryer filled with oil and fry them briefly on each side, being sure to salt them well before placing in a basket filled with paper towels.

Cheers all,
:muffit:

IrishKay,

Hope all turns out well for you. Be strong and don't be afraid to be yourself. Will be thinking of you...

Hi Em! Thanks! You used to make your own tortillas? Wow, that's something I never tried. We have a lot of fields that need immigrant farm hands so we have a lot of hispanics. The best part of that is there are many hispanic food stores - with daily fresh tortillas, which really makes a difference. I also love bbq'ed carne asada wrapped in corn tortillas. As much as I love Mexican food I guess I should've been born one! The only thing I can't get used to is hot chili/jalpeno lollies - guess you gotta grow up with 'em.

Maybe I should bug you about how to make those home made tortillas... :)

Cheers,

Hi IrishKay! Good to be back and see you again! I am gonna try and make that peanut butter chocolate pudding this weekend for the family. Thanks for the recipe!

Speaking of recipes, I don't have one but something I ate at an outdoor restaurant aeons ago keeps bugging me, and I started thinking about it again. They had these things they called "cheese fritters", which came with a yellow sauce of some kind that was oh! so tasty to dip the fritters in. I tried to get the waiter to tell me what was in it, and he so graciously asked the chef and came back and whispered part of it in my ear (I guess he wasn't supposed to tell). But try as I might, I have never been able to duplicate it.

Till yesterday as I was going thru a cookbook looking for sauces to put on breaded chicken patties, I spotted Hollandaise and something clicked. (And Thomas didn't have to do the clicking, LOL! Sorry, private joke ;)). I'm betting that the restaurant used a Hollandaise sauce as a base, then added lemon pepper and sugar. And the fritters were probably modified hush puppies filled with cheese then deep fried. Could be! You never know! So I will be on the lookout for a small deep fryer and the ingredients. Will let you all know if it turns out.

So happy to have the cafe open again.

That sounds suspiciously like the cheese buscuits at Red Lobster. But those are baked, not deep fried. Don't remember a dipping sauce, either - but if you experiment with a Hollandaise, Muffit, don't buy one of the packaged mixes - they are, uniformly, awful. Make it from scratch. Better and easy, too.

Wonderful over aparagus....

I'm getting hungry now..... ;)

Mrs. Dawg can give you tips how to make Hollandaise, too, if you want.

Thanks Dawg! I have never been to Red Lobster so I couldn't say for sure, but it sounds like the two are very different. And yes you're right, sauces from packages are awful. I've never made a hollandaise but it looks simple enough. I don't have a double boiler though - might need to get one.

I didn't make it last night cuz it takes 6 eggs and a whole tub of butter, but will next time after we've got more goodies in the fridge. :)

Hey everyone, if you haven't seen it, you might wanna rent Radio starring Cuba Gooding Jr. Based on a true story of the value of human kindness, to all walks of life. It's amazing that every movie about a 'challenged' person turns in a great performance by the star and a touching movie. If you liked Rain Man, Sam I am and Sling Blade, you'll like this too.

And Bsg1fan, I love this place too!

So sorry to hear you are sick Galen. I hope you are feeling better soon.

I myself am have been a bit out of sorts since I got some bad news this weekend. I got a call from my parents that my stepdad's uncle had leukemia and has been given the timetable of 6-8 weeks to live.

On the other hand I am going nuts with my wedding plans. We have the dj, the hall, an idea what we are going to have for food, the church and most of the minor details done but there is more yet to do!

To Muffit:
"There are times when only a dog will do
For a friend-when you're beaten, sick and blue,
And the world's all wrong; for he won't care
If you break and cry, or grouch and swear;
For he'll let you know as he licks your hands
That he's downright sorry - and understands" (Don Blanding)

Shiningstar your kidding I've never "met" anyone before that has heard of it let alone liked it. I only know the first 5 stanzas off by heart and there are 22. I counted them once there was over 600 words. It was my goal once to learn the whole thing off by heart except for the one racist remark (in stanza 18) which I would have to substitute.

When I was a little girl my mother taught us how to memorize and recite poetry, we used to choose a poem on Sunday to learn and recite it for the following Sunday. Brings back memories:)

well we know where the problem started with her shoulder. it stems back to when she was injured when she was two weeks away from delivering me. My mother and late father owned a gas station at the time and the one of the garage doors at the gas station fell on her and pushed her into a trailer hitch on a vehicle. She was more worried about if I was okay than her own injuries.

Thanks for the prayers and kind thoughts. I am going to need advice though on how to help her when my parents come to see us the weekend after her surgery. I mean as far as helping her shower and dress without hurting her arm or busting any stitches.

well we know where the problem started with her shoulder. it stems back to when she was injured when she was two weeks away from delivering me.

My first piece of advice is to call a hospice or a visiting nurses association.
Maybe even the red cross could direct you to the right people. They can
give you the advice you need. I think even GAELEN .......I hope she doesn't
mind me saying that .........but I think she'd be the most qualified person
HERE to help you.

In any case I'd suggest that you get a nurse or aide to help. You shouldn't be
going through this alone. :rose:

BSG, that's what CNAs do. They are available thru agencies, usually listed under nursing aides (although it's a LOT cheaper to hire one personally, wthout the agency. Most will do that for you for around $6 - $10 an hour). You could watch what one does one time to learn what to do your self if you like. Many families of patients do just that - they hire one for a couple hours, then watch and ask questions. The next time they do everything themselves to save money. CNAs are quite good at what they do and can offer a lot of insight.

Hope this is helpful.

If you tell me what surgery she's getting and how old she is then I can ask my instructors and get you some advice, but shining star makes a good point too. Anytime bsg happy to look up stuff for you or I can ask around, I will benefit as well by learning stuff I need to know too.:)

She's having rotator cuff surgery and she just turned 59. I just need to know what to watch out for and how to help her while they come for a visit so I can help her with things. I have been like her own private nurse since 1998. She has gone thorough brain tumor surgery (thank god they were non cancerous), a stroke, colon cancer, mild heart attack, diabetic, prone to seizures since then. As a result of the cancer she wears a colostomy that helped with. Up until I moved here to be with my fiance I took care of her and set up her meds. Now my dad and my brother are taking over for me. I called her today just to see how she is feeling and she was a bit down and said she felt a bit like an invalid and I told her to cheer up and things would be fine. Plus that there will people to help her until she gets the usage of her arm back. Looks like she will be undergoing therapy for it too.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks. I got new fish for my tank last night after it has only had one fish in it for almost a week as my neons died from a fish related virus. Now I have two lemon tetras and two glow lite tetras and a octoneous catfish!

I love aquariums. My husband wants to get one ......but we have no room
for it in the house right now. I love neons and tetras! I don't seem to
remember that a 'octoneous' catfish is .........but one day I'd love to see one. :)

I went to someone's condo once, and it had the BIGGEST aquarium you have ever seen! It must've been 10 feet long and four feet high! And it had this HUGE orange fish in it, a good 2 feet long. I know the name but can't think of it now.

Hope that thing never breaks or they will DROWN! :D

Ooh, time for a silly literature joke...

To His Koi Mistress
by Andrew Marble (as in lost them)

Had we but world enough and time,
This Koi-ness miss would be no crime
But think me not consumed with hate
I'd rather see it on a plate!

Your phone's been ringing off the hook
Those bones should be withdrawn and cooked
And find unsevered by its tail
A nice big mug of nut brown ale!

So scrape the scales and gouge the eyes
And shoo away those pesky flies
For soon your Koi will float and flit
Inside my stomach's wecome pit!

(Wildly misquoted by crazy Muffit!) :D

P.S. In case you weren't a Lit' student in college, "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell was required reading, and very famous at that.

Read: To His Coy Mistress (http://www.luminarium.org/sevenlit/marvell/coy.htm)

It's a beautifully stated poem to "eloquently entice" his girlfriend into carnal surrender. Funny, guys haven't changed in all these years. This was written back in the 1600's...

Couldn't resist the urge to do a pun on Coy/Koi...
