She will fuss and fume and play poor me for a while and then she will expect things to go back to where they were before her little temper tantrum. She has hurt my mom deeply this time and my niece has not helped the situation by disrespecting her own grandmother.

well I also blasted her daughter for causing a minor fight between me and Hubby the night of the start of our honeymoon. I had told my parents and him and my younger brother that I did not want the Chicken Dance played at the reception because my sister would try and pull me out there and I was not going to be embarrassed on my wedding day. Well my niece went to Kev and begged him to let them play the Chicken Dance and he forgot and said yes after I had said no. I had to hide in the ladies room while the dang song was being played for the fact I was going to have a few things to say right there. Had to also wash my hands because I had frosting all over me as my sister being an idiot while he was feeding cake to me got her hand in there and smashed it in my face it went everywhere. So she got set down this morning. She better not even contact Kev or there will be a war!

Like the line in a certain cartoon says ..........there's got to be ONE in every family. :(

At my wedding my mother, and siblings tried to drive away with my purse, and my

found two more rolls of film we took while on our honeymoon today while I was cleaning that my hubby forgot to send in. that and i had to bake something for sunday and had to send a card to my youngest nephew because he had an operation a couple of days ago on one of the muscles in his leg to help him walk better. He has slight cerebal palsy in his right leg and he wears a brace to help him walk. Hopefully this operation worked and the brace will be a shorter one and he will be able to walk fine instead of lumbering around like a drunken sailor.

Today's been a trying day for me. SO far I've been punched, kicked and bitten by
my youngest daughter who is mildly autistic and told off by my oldest one.

A construction worker hit and destroyed my mail box and left without telling me.
I found out about that from my husband screaming and practically spitting in my
face. It's as though he blames ME ........LIke I went out into the yard and picked
up the mail box and called over the driver and said DESTROY this for me I want
to PISS hubby off.

Did anyone watch Dogs with jobs the other night about dogs especially trained to assist autistic kids?

That show always brings tears to my eyes. Another show that always makes me cry (but in a good way) is "Cell Dogs" on Animal Planet. To watch these hardened criminals who have probably never had much love in their life fall so hopelessly in love with the dogs they are training to help out disabled people is just incredible. Not only are they doing a service by giving these dogs the 24/7 training they need to be service dogs, but they are giving the inmates a connection to something living.

Do I think it will turn all of them into model citizens? No, but I think that at least some of them will learn some important things about life and love and make them take another look at their life. Some of them have even delayed getting released on parole so that they could finish training their dog.

bsg1fan1975
July 12th, 2004, 12:48 PM
I like that idea because they pay for their crimes against society by training a dog to help someone else the way they might not have been helped in their life.

Rowan
July 12th, 2004, 05:04 PM
unowhoandwhy I've seen those shows about dogs and prisoners and it's awesome! Each gives the other what they need. There was also a prison that had prisoners learn how to become dog groomers so that they actually had a profession to pursue once they left.

Did anyone else know that it isn't illegal to be an illegal alien?... :wtf: :/:

Seriously, our department had nine illegals from Ecuador who freely admitted that they paid a coyote (a man who smuggles people across the border from Mexico to the US) anywhere from $1,200 to $10,000 to enter the country illegally and the INS told us they had committed no crimes and there was nothing we could do... ummmmm... why do they call them illegal aliens then? And what about the false IDs and false Social Security numbers they were using to work and... ?! :wtf:

My Chief hit the roof and went straight through it and up another 100 stories. Apparently, even when they commit violations and misdemeanors the INS still doesn't act. If they commit a felony then they may start the deportation process, but other than that, it's OK to sneak into the country illegally. Of course, the terrorists aleady know this, does anyone else remember September 11th, 2001? Apparently, the INS (Oh, I am sorry, they are the Bureau of Immigrations Enforcement under the Department of Homeland Security now) doesn't remember what happened... grrrrrrr. And I know, there aren't a whole lot of Islamic militants in Ecuador, but... well, anyway...

Now, don't get me wrong, I am all for people coming here because they don't have the same opportunities that they do in this country. But they should do it legally and follow the laws of this country or else they should be sent away.

OK, rant over, I am surrendering my soapbox again.

y'all have one angry warrior here. I just got a call from my mom to tell me that my stepdad's uncle had passed last night and the only way he found out that it had happened was that he saw it in the paper. None of my stepdad's mother's side got invited to the funeral as his uncle's wife only invited my grandmother's only living sibling and the children of my great uncle and his wife. My side of the family is fuming. I sent invitations to my wedding to my great uncle and his wife and told them because of his health, that if they didn't want to come that was fine. They have not even acknowledge that I got married by send a card to congratulate me and my other aunt never sent anything but the response card that she would not be there either. So you have one flaming ticked off warrior here.

bsg, I live on both sides of that street.

I'm a stepdad. My daughter and her family are routinely ignored by certain members of my family. OK, to be blunt, it's my own parents who don't acknowledge them. They weren't too happy when I married her mom, anyway (but, 14 years later, they're mellowing on the subject since it looks like it just might last after all). It ticks me off, but rather than let it eat me up I decided that it's their loss.

I'm also a complete stranger to members of both my parents' families. My dad's older siblings (all gone now) had a different mother than my dad and his younger brother, and were some bit older. Our families very rarely got together (I've got cousins I've never met or even know about). Mom's only brother is a stuck-up snob with an even worse wife.

Needless to say, I have few relatives I speak to outside my immediate family, and those are related (or formerly related) by marriage.

Don't let it get to you. It really is their loss. Raise your family with love, support, and acceptance of who and what they become and your kids and grandkids won't have these problems.

Bsg I've been there. My Mother and my siblings treat me and my family
like dirt. Now they wander WHY I never call.

I used to try and try to prove to them that I was a good person.
But I came to realize that no matter what I did .......or how much
money I made or who I married ......or how well behaved my
children were ........I would always be the scum of the Earth to
them.

I realized that I had to move on with my life and quite simply
"Drop the dead WEIGHT". I only call them about ONCE in

no matter how you handle this situation ........you will
be too.

I am. The guy dropped off a bunch of address for me to put in a database so he can do a mass mailing. Last night's meeting almost had me in tears when the guy who is advising him turns to me and says he needs the database "like yesterday". I told the guy I had just got them and was going to be out of town this weekend as I have family from out of town visiting my family in Rhode Island. I get to see my aunt maybe every 2 or 3 years and Kev's uncle has a birthday party we are already committed to going. Kev told me he is going to help me with this so it will be over quickly.

at least the guy who all the stuff I am doing the for is trying to help by doing some of it too as he gets additional stuff.

as for the weekend, it was the pits. We left here early sat. to make it to Rhode Island to have breakfast w/ my aunt and parents. the breakfast visit didn't go off as planned. I waited half of the day to see my aunt and then when the meeting went down, of course it had to be at my sister's place and then my aunt was rude and hurtful to me. I got to see her all of 2 whole minutes! Whoopie! This woman never acknowledged my wedding or sent the rsvp card that had been enclosed in the invitation! I made it clear to those who knew I was hurt that I do not want to know when she comes out again and after this weekend I am not going to make a special trip to see her again.

Other than that his uncle's bday party was a blast.

well it looks like I will be the next one taking a trip. My hubby and I are going with my parents to see my family in Wisconsin for Labor Day weekend. Its going to be a crash course for hubby to get to know the Wisconsin end of the family. I'll be gone for a total of 5 days I think, not sure yet about it. We are renting a car for the trip. We were talking about staying in a hotel but after checking the prices we are going to get a hold of one of our friends who is like family to us and see if she wouldn't mind us staying with her.

I'm stepping in late and having to make an assumption, but BSG, you were plagued with a migraine? My heart goes out to you. I used to get them a lot, and they used to be dreadfully horrible. A few years ago (I think about 4) I started getting them every day for a week and I was at my wits end. But I went to who would be my new nuerologist and she changed my epilepsy medication which very soon cut out the migraines (It turned out that my migraines were a form of seizures) within a week, though I still got them on occasion for a while. She also prescribed for me the pain killer Vicadin, and I found that to a life saver. I didn't use the Vicodins to kill the pain once the migrain started; I used them to stop the oncoming migrain before it began. As soon as I'd get the fuzzy lights and flashing in my eyes (which fellow migraine sufferers know is the advance warning of a developing migraine), I'd pop the pill and close my eyes for 10 minutes. The flashing would stop and go away, and the migraine pain would not come. My experienced guess was that the Vicodin calmed the nerves and stopped the migrain from developing. I also found that after a week of that, popping the Vicodin every day as soon as the flashing began (because I was getting the onslaughts about once a day), that I trained my brain. One day the flashing started and I announced that I was going to take a pill to nip the migraine in the bud, so I got a drink and was starting to open the Vicodin bottle, took a pill in my hand and was about to swallow it, when the flashing stopped completely. So I didn't take the pill. It seemed that my brain had come to expect the effects that wopuld come once I swallowed the pills, so without even swallowing it, my brain reacted and took care of itself. :erk:

Oy, I talk about myself too much, don't I? :...: My point is that it if worked for me it might work for you, bsg, and others too.

thanks I usually don't get them that often but yesterday's migraine was becoming a doozy. I was diagnosed with them in '99. there is a family history on both sides. When I feel one coming I usually run for the caffeine. My mom advised me to have chocolate in my purse in case I am out and about and start getting one to where I just have a bite of chocolate and it helps.

oh today ought to be fun got to get a new pot for one of my plants and some potting soil. My "man eater" plant has outgrown its original pot! needless to say its in dire need of a move to a bigger pot. I hope that it grows like the three we had when I was a kid. Mom had to wrap the plant in and around itself. We had what we called a "jungle". I never forgot the day my older brother took my sister's stuffed monkey and put it in amongst the plants and scared my mom.

finally a nice day to be outside. Friday night we got severe thunderstorms here. Then yesterday we had planned on going to a fair in the region with friends of ours and their two boys. About 2 p.m. here its started storming like mad. Wicked thunder and lightning, heavy rain. At one point they had a flash flood warning for our area. Started calming down about 3:30 when we left to go to our friends. Well we got there and packed into their van and headed over to the fair. There had been so much rain that they had closed the fair down last night because of the amount of rain that they had gotten. So we ended up doing some grocery shopping with our friends and then ate dinner at their place. Today was a better day. Went to the church services and then the picnic. Afterwards, hubby and I spent a couple hours at the fair. And tonight I am relaxing in my home!

Well, it's cleaning month for us... looks like a move might be in our future soon, so I thought it was high time to clean out these dadratted closets. We converted the 4th bedroom into my office, and the closet has been our only storage for our plethora of movies. Egads, I never realized how many we have!!! We have over 600 movies on 300 tapes, not to mention the Disney tapes I never catalogued, and now an additional 85 DVDs! Yikes on bikes!!!

So many in fact, it would be impossible to throw them all out at once. So I've been throwing out about 100 tapes a week (can't sell 'em cuz they're recorded shows from TV and that's a no-no to resell), too old and decrepit to record over, and heck, we haven't watched ANY of them in the last 8 years we've been here!! So I'm just tossing 'em. Most of them are Trek TOS and TNG anyway, and now that TOS is coming to DVD, to heck with VHS!!!

200 down, a hundred or so to go. Figures, now that I'm finally organizing my office, we're probably gonna leave. Can you spell "procrastinate"? Yep, M-u-f-f-i-t!!! :D :D :D
