Hi Rowan! If you have a CD player, you can find it here:
Believe it or Not (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005QD8L/qid=1080233356/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-4944957-9324707?v=glance&s=music)
Also, there are many places that offer new turntables for audiophiles and those with large LP collections. Finding a receiver that accepts phono in is a bit tricky, but they definitely exist.
Hope this helps!

Hi again Rowan!
Here is the device you need to connect older phonographs to newer stereo receivers:
Phono adapter (http://www.aspenclassifieds.com/shopping/Electronics/details.asp?ID=57)
All you need do is plug your phono's outputs into this and then connect this to your receiver with normal audio RCA plugs. Does this help? If you need the old phono out cord, you should be able to find that on the net, or be able to make one up.

You got a thing about corn, dontcha?
OK, here goes:
Four guys set out on a cross country trip. The driver is from Florida. The other guys are from New York, Idaho, and Nebraska.
A few miles down the road, the guy from Nebraska reaches for his backpack on the floor, rolls down the window, opens the backpack up, and starts pulling ears of corn out of the backpack and throwing them out the window. The guy from Idaho watches a few moments, then asks, "What on earth are you doing?" Comes the answer, "Where I come from these things are everywhere. I can't stand looking at them any more, so I'm getting rid of them."
The Idaho guy ponders for a moment, then reaches for HIS backpack and begins pulling potatoes out of it and tossing THEM out the window.
The Florida guy turns around, sees what's happening, and demands to know what's going on. Comes the answer, "I'm from Idaho, these things are everywhere back there, I can't stand looking at then any more, and I'm getting rid of them."
The guy from Florida stares at the steering wheel a moment and a light comes on. He suddenly leans over, pushes the passenger door open, and kicks out the guy from New York.

Thankyou.
So how do you get to put a picture up then.
Part of it is easy. Click on the "preferences" tab underneath all the spaceships at the top of your screen, click on "edit avatar" in the middle of the left-hand column, then click on "use custom avatar", click on "browse", find your avatar file, and double click on it.
The HARD part is finding or creating an avatar that you like and saving it to your own computer. The end result needs to be pretty small (what was it, 5KB??), so you may need to play with the file awhile before it is small enough.
I could say more, but why don't you play with the project a bit, and then cry for help when you get stuck, like everybody else did.
:salute:
unowhoandwhy
March 25th, 2004, 12:33 PM
Thankyou.
So how do you get to put a picture up then.
Once you get to 25 posts you go to your User Control Panel (User CP) and click on "Edit Avatar" and then choose a file (either from your computer or from the web) Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 5.9 KB (whichever is smaller). Then choose upload. And that should be that.
And thanks for the thread.

Hmmmm. Dawg is confused. Everybody's talking about avatars. Dawg thinks he's in the Help Zone. But, no, it says "The Last Person" on the top of his computer. Hmmmm.
POUNCE!!!!
Hi, lil sis! Hi, unowho & ThomasB!
:music: Dawg's got the tread. Dawg's got the thread. :music:
Hi, sorrell! If I haven't said so before, welcome to the Fleets! They're right, you need to reach 25 posts before you can get an avatar. There's a thread around, somewhere (I think in "The Help Zone") that spells it all out (size, etc), but if you need some help just yell.
Now - I'm gonna hang on to the thread for a bit. :D

sorrell I found that discusion it was between Muffit and vectrex on a thread called: "thank you fellow CFers" under the "Battlestar Galactica Discusions" I'd post the link but well haven't learned how to do that yet;) :D
you can tell how long someone has been a member by their sing up date under their avatar and howmany posts they have made or just glance at the cylons/basestars they accumulated that tells you how much they have posted too 1 Cylon = 100 posts 1 basestar =1000 posts
and then there are special people like my big brother Dawg  who is a moderator, keeps the peace here and helps us out, look under peoples avatars for clues or click on their names to learn more about them. all this was totally foreign to me when I started took me for ever to notice all this stuff.
Yes I should be studying instead of playing here, but I am resting my foot!

Yes, it does. You can get an idea of the "rankings" by looking at the different people and checking how many posts they've got. Nobody's hit the top, yet (although there are a few who are trying!).

Fleet Moderator is just that: I'm one of the moderators on this board. The others are BST, Gemini1999, and DarkJedi. We kind of gently ride herd on things to make sure they don't get out of hand. No flame wars, no member bashing, that kind of thing. We're also the people you can come to if you have a problem.
And to be honest, Sorrell, I don't know what the top ranking is. But keep your eyes on people like Rowan and Shiningstar - they'll hit it pretty soon at the rate they're going!

Go to that page yourself. Click in the URL address box at the top of the screen. It should all highlight. If it doesn't, click and drag your mouse to highlight the entire URL address. Then press ctrl-c (hold the control key down and press the letter c [for 'copy'].)
Come back to this thread, create a post, position your cursor somewhere in the post, and hit ctrl-v. [I dunno what 'v' is supposed to stand for, but that's what you do.] The URL address will appear, and, in a well-managed BBoard like this one, if a reader clicks on the URL, they get sent to that page automatically.

Eeks! It takes me 20 minutes to catch up on this thread!
I need to write an auto-post program that posts every time I get an email notice - of course that wouldn't be very fair! But the AI would be a hoot!
Speaking of cheating, my programmer friend and I were playing this game called Olympic Decathlon eons ago, and one event is you type with two fingers the same way you run with your legs - incredible fun! And funny thing is, the physics of it were scaled so well, you actually ran the same speed with your fingers you do with your legs. We were trying all kinds of ways to cheat and get a better score ------
Ah, but being a member of the Mensa Society has its benefits, and my friend devised a tiny electric motor with little "feet" - he rann the 100 meter dash in like .0004 seconds!!! And the system crashed trying to print out all the digits in the score!!! We were dying laughing :D

Hi Sorrell!!!
Making an avatar is easy. First thing is you need to decide what you want it to be. You may find a pic on the net using GOOGLE by simply searching, then download it by right clicking the image and selecting "Save Target As...". If you want, you can later edit it a bit to be more what you want.
An avatar is just a pic (although it can also be animated - more on that later). It should be saved in .JPG format. It's okay to use a .BMP or other format as the original, but you will have to convert it to a .JPG in order to make it small enough to fit here at Colonial Fleets (I think the max size is around 5k or so - will have to check). The final dimensions need to be around 100 x 100 pixels.
Don't worry if your original pic is too big - you can easily fix that in MS Paint which comes free with your Windows OS. Just look in Programs>Accessories. You can use Paint to change the file type to JPG by simply loading your pic into Paint, then choosing Save As... and selecting JPEG as the type. If the dimensions are wrong, Paint can also fix that - go to Image>Attributes on the main menu to see how big your pic is now. Then go to Image>Stretch/Skew and enter a percentage for the horizontal and vertical you want to resize it to. Just as you would think, 200% doubles the size and 50% shrinks it in half. I use a calculator instead of guessing to resize the pic, which makes it a piece of cake. For instance, if your original pic is 160 x 100, you can change the width by figuring "targetsize/actualsize", which would be 100/160 or .625, or about 62%.
Save it as a .jpg and then click on UserCP in the upper left of the main toolbar here at CF. Then choose Edit Avatar, and upload your custom avatar.
Hope this helps!!!

FINALLY got my 24 year old apps ported over to this PC, am so glad to finally get that done. It's amazing how difficult something so simple can be!
Art programs have come so far! There were NONE when I started using computers. So I used quadrille-ruled graph paper to X in the dots I wanted for the shapes, then hand converted those into binary, then from binary into hex, and finally typed them one by one into the computer. If I made a mistake... yikes!!!
Now you can just about make a feature-length cartoon right on your own PC. Imagine what the future holds!!! :D

My friend's wife (who I just barely knew) told me once to bring them over for her hubby to try. I handed him one of the hard ones, and he seemed reluctant to try. But at our urging he said okay - about 6 seconds later he said nonchalantly, "Oh! Simple binary!" 4 seconds later he had solved it.

I have noticed the little boxes on the left.
Rowan
March 25th, 2004, 11:51 PM
hey sorrell
yes the little boxes help, but there is another way too, at the bottom of a thread there is a box called forum jump if you click on it and go up to where it says whos on line you get to see where every one is so if your playing on a thread like this one or the two word story etc,. then you can see what the other poster is doing helps to make the action quicker sometimes:D
bed what is bed...are you complaining I could go to bed and leave you all alone if you like:D ;) I usually go to bed at 2 am I'm a bit of a night owl;) sorry missed your other question it's 11:51pm right now in BC Canada where Kat and I are

Hello all! G'day!!!
Hey Rowan, I have never even seen a Mensa test. I figure if I never look at one, I won't feel dumb if it looks hard! :D Who knows, I might do okay, but for most of my life, although I always scored in the upper 90's for most 'IQ" test scores, one category always messes me up - mechanical reasoning. I might get 98 across the board except this. And it's as low as 70's. You know that category, where they show you these bizarre inverted 3d objects and you've gotta unscramble them mentally.
I heard Mensa tests are mostly in that category. Poor me! There was a magazine back in the 80's which asked a single Mensa question at the back every month. Sadly I forget which mag.
Anywho, I got the thread!!! :D

And last but not least, the Mormon connection!

It's always the quiet kittens that keep to themselves and bother no one that become snipers.
