Default Galactica size poll

Some of us have being discussing the sise and scale of the Galactica.. there are a number of different ideas..what do you think??

2000 ft - This measurement comes from an article from Starlog, August 1978,
by Richard Meyers who supposedly got the number from the production staff.
The British BSG Annual in 1979 also has this figure contained in the article.

6080 ft - This measurement comes from an article in a British
magazine by one of the three owners of the Galactica Archives and estimated the
scale of the model to be about 1/960 scale (1 inch = 80 ft). This measurement is
roughly supported by Glen Larson (Producer) and John Dykstra (VFX supervisor)
who say the ship is about a mile in length.

2-3 Miles long/random measurements - In an issue of Fantastic Films (February 1979)
James Delson interviewed Ken Swenson, a model maker on Battlestar Galactica. In the
interview he says "They called them battlestars because they were so huge...
It's the size of a small city."

Anybody who doesn't think it's a mile or one nautical mile long is talking out of their astrum.

Somewhere I've got a sheet from the Uniersal press pack that states the ship's a mile long!

There is a website out there that has all the figures for all the space craft on it.
You just have to find it

I think the 2000 feet is supposed to be 2000 meters. According to my converter that's the same as 6560 ft. which is close enough.

Battlestar Galactica 1978 Comparison chart

I found this comaparison chart, it not 100% accurate, but it's interesting! Suggests
that Galactica is 1265m long- about twice as long as Picard's Enterprise, but tiny next too Vader's Super Star Destroyer!

BRG

ps- sorry about the size of the pic

Yea nicely done art work there. The sizes are the authors estimates, many based on other fans estmates. The Galactica for example, is half the size it should be.

Comparison chart webpage.

Above is the webpage were I found the comparison chart, it lists the sorces that the artist based the ships dimentions on. And also has another chart featuring REALLY BIG ships!

I agree that Galaictica is too small on the chart, I've heard from a number of people that it was a mile long, which would make it about the size of a Star Destroyer. BRG voted for the 6080 ft option in the poll.

PS- I would like to make it clear that I did not draw the comparison chart. I know this is a Creativity section, but BRG has no skill in drawing by hand or by computer!

Cool Size Of The BattleStar Galactica

Hmmmm .... from what I've read on one of the reference www pages, it seems the Battlestar is supposed to be considered roughly a mile in length. I would wonder if that figure was meant to mean a standard city mile, or maybe perhaps a standard country mile? Hmmmmm... Interesting though.
