Thumbs up A cool classic cartoon DVD

I picked up a great deal a few days ago at a Walgreens here in Superior, WI.

6 hours of CLASSIC cartoons on a single disc for 7 dollars.

Among the classic cartoons are Max Fleischer's Superman cartoon, Popeye, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, and some various others.

The Max Fleischer Superman cartoons are great in the animation and even voice over department. The quick stories themselves are formulaic, but the entertainment value is priceless. A tribute to a time when near life-like animation was done by hand.

And it also dispells the notion I had that Superman NEVER talked in those old cartoons. In a couple of episodes...he did. I was surprised.

The Bugs Bunny cartoons had a couple of my favorites...

It is extremely rare that ANYONE gets the upper hand on good ol' Bugs, but a little gremlin did a nice job of making Bugs look like a jack-ass (quite literally in one scene).

And another when Bugs takes on Ala-Bahma, the great magician.

"And now, for jou entertainment, I am about to predustifica----predistifacu--pelugamegate----PULL a live rabbit, out of the hat...yesss." Sheer genius of voice acting by the late, great Mel Blanc. (One of my idols.)

Also, these cartoons are THE original cuts....not altered in ANY way. No politically correct overdubs, or scene editings. 100% original cuts.

Gotta love the oldies. Folks, if you find a copy of this anywhere...SNAG IT UP!

Respectfully, and with fondest of memories,
Martok2112

I think they both would give each other a run for their money

My Father and I were having a discussion about this topic a few weeks ago (PCing the classic WB cartoons). What it boiled down too is that in this hypocritically non-violent era in cartoons, to the point of 'reimagining' Bugs and Co, once you remove the good stuff, they aren't worth watching.

Glad you found some originals, Martok.

Now, for the Bugs vs. Superman debate:

Bgs would win, hands down. Poor Superman would be tied into knots by the time the rabbit was done.
