Default Evidence of Colonial Architecture on Earth

Hello everyone -

I was doing some cruising on the net and I found something that you all might want to see - evidence of Colonial-influenced architecture right here on Earth!

Doesn't it look a lot like this building on Caprica?

Now, before some of you get your panties in a bunch, both buildings are one and the same (from opposite sides) - that being the Long Beach Civic Center tower in Long Beach, CA. I ran across it by accident and I just couldn't resist...

Best to all,
Bryan

That was a good find Bryan! I never seen that building before.

However I am very familiar with CYLON Construction....

Tom -

Recently, I was watching something on TV or DVD (I've forgotten) and I saw the night parachute jump scenes from "Living Legend". I wasn't watching BSG, but I recognized the buildings and the scene in general. Have you ever heard of other films/TV shows that used footage from BSG?

Just wondering - when I saw the Cal State Northridge buildings in the picture, it reminded me!

Later,
Bryan

LOL! Oh I don't know.. I suppose we must have some expert amoung us on that. We live in California so there is filming all around here.

I know roughly where the outdoor MASH set use to be. And the Kirk/Gorn fight was of course Vasquez Rocks. But I'm not to hip on this.

Btw- If they ever do have another Galacticon again, they should have it on CSUN campus or CalState Long Beach so we can take pictures of ourselves and our heroes on Caprica or Gammoray!

Whatever happened to those yearly Expos (67, 68, etc....)? You never hear about them anymore - I guess that nobody dreams up stuff like that these days....

Hey Bryan
I know so sad I was born in 64 and my parents took to me Expo 67 I have very strong and vivid memeories of it. Here in British Columbia we have the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition) There is no archetecture involved which is something I really loved about Expo 67.
I did find this web site which seems to indicate that Germany may have hosted one in 2002 http://www.expo.02.ch/d/expo/rueckblick.html
There seem to be a lot of Expo's out there but they are all category specific like the Mac Expo http://www.macworldexpo.com/live/20/ Nothing like what it used to be like it's a shame. probably too costly.

That's neat! Though I don't remember them....

Hmmm... I do think I recall seeing one building that may have been used somewhere in BG,. The building was kinda plain. But on each corner was these structures on top. It was kinda like 8 sided squatty can shape. And the sides had long thin slits.

I remember seeing the building along the freeway on the way to san diego.

This proves that Adama was right on target in believing that early Colonials colonized Earth.

Ha, ha, . . .

I worked across the street from that building for 3 years.

I had to pay a traffic ticket there once . . .

The building I worked in across the street allowed me an aireal view of it. After my traffic ticket, I wondered what it would be like to fly down and destroy the building myself . . .

I think you're refering to the World Expo. My country hosted the World Expo in 1998, in Lisbon. The city that hosts the Expo usualy does great monuments or buildings.
Have you ever seen the Atomium in Brussels(Belgium). Even the Eiffel tower was builded during the Paris Expo. Sory but i can't remember the dates.
If you want to see what they did in Lisbon go here :

You all are right, you don't hear about the World Expo anymore. I was very fortunate to be able to attend one in Brisbane, Australia back in 1988. Fantastic!!! I still have my souvenirs and stuff from my visit to the site...

I know they still do those expos. From what i know some countries propose themselves and one is selected (like the olympics, i guess). What i can't remember is the years, but i guess it's something between 6 and 8 years between expos. It all depends on the world evolution. Ours was the last of the 20th century.
You're supose to see in this expos the latest advances in all areas. All amazing things. Before Lisbon i think it was Sevilha (Spain), and i believe the next will be in Germany. Each country shows there the best they have in all areas. It was prety impressive in 98. I needed 4 days to visit all the expositions. If one thay you have one next to you, don't miss it.

Hey, I've found out that the group that oversees the selection of World Expos is the 'Bureau International Des Expositions' (International Bureau of Exhibitions) based in France - http://www.bie-paris.org/

The website reveals that the next two confirmed Expos will be in Aichi prefecture, Japan, opening in March 2005, and in Shanghai, China in 2010.

http://www.expo2005.or.jp

http://www.expo2010china.com/renda/node1162/index.html

There are also bids for a 2008 Expo from Zaragoza - Spain, Trieste - Italy, and Thessaloniki - Greece, info available at the BIE site.

It's all very complex stuff!

Hi Ian found some current info on the Japan Expo

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...5_050401084723

21st century's first World Expo struggles in first week
TOKYO (AFP) - The 21st century's first World Exposition which opened a week ago has failed to meet attendance expectations, forcing host Japan to loosen entrance rules to give new momentum to the showcase of technology.

But the seven days since the March 25 opening saw 426,089 guests, or a daily average of 60,870, at the multibillion-dollar event, which has been marred by snow and cold winds.

The Expo, set up in a forest park, features everything from a frozen mammoth dug up in Siberia to cutting-edge robots and ethnic displays by some of the 121 countries taking part.

The lukewarm interest is in sharp contrast to Japan's last Expo in 1970 in Osaka, which drew 64 million people over half a year and helped solidify Japan's role as a technology leader.
