cylons in 1951????
Hubby and I just got done watching the classic 1951 movie The day the earth stood still. And if anyone is familiar with this flick there is a robot named Gort. And as I was watching it he looked like a cylon. Anyone catch this before??? In other words I wonder if Gort's look inspired the cylon in TOS(especially the lazer eye)
Whatca think????

That's an interesting thought Julix! And very possible. Very little SciFi after the 50's is original. Almost everything is/was influenced either consciously or unconsciously by the cool ideas that were introduced during this era.
Of course Knight Rider was based on the roving red eye (or is it vice versa?).
And I'm sure the Martians in War of the Worlds were based on the rgb projector lenses popular during the time of its making.

I was wondering when someone caught that.
I teach a Sci-Fi class & use that film as a means of comparison with more contemporary movies & series.
And sure enough I do compare Gort to TOS Cylons!
Thanks Julix for that observation,
KR

Wow,
KR that is great...I feel so smart now!!!! How cool, you teach a class about sci-fi. I love it! That would be a great class. I have always loved classic sci-fi.
Thanks KR, Muffit, and of course Rowan for the Pix(keep looking for those triad outfits!! )

Hey, what about Maxillian? What, don't remember him? Big guy, red eye and floats...The Black Hole (1979). The movie was in development for four years.
Dr. Reinhardt "Now Maxillian, play nice".
