Default Cylon Origins: Boxey Question

While watching Saga of A Star World on the DVD box set I found the Apollo/Boxey conversation while in the vehicle on Carillon in reference to the origins of the cylons very interesting. Without this scene noone would know the origins of the cylons. Would it really make a difference? Not really. Much is made of the mini origin mythos even though it turns out that in SOASW the whole issue is put to bed in about 1 minute. What I found really interesting was that after the quick version about reptiles who create robots that eventually take over, Boxey asks Apollo something to the effect of "Won't our robots and drones do the same thing in the future?" Apollo says it can't happen. I wondered at that point why even put the thought in the show? I wonder if Larson thought about the idea. I wonder if he thought merely mentioning it would get the audience thinking. I wonder if Moore found Boxey's question a more compelling explanation than the real history told by Apollo. Between human cylons in BG80 and Boxey's question I wonder if the whole origin of the cylons in Moore's version was directly inspired by Larson's original efforts and words. Moore's cylon origins and themes may be TOS inspired after all.

Ever heard of planting a seed? Perhaps it was an idea that Larson wanted to re-visit at a later date, like the 2nd season.

Doubtful. There was more of a Trek-inspired influence at work here than a TOS influence.

I agree with BST. I doubt Moore watched the pilot that closely!!!

The man vs machine conflict dates back to the very begining of the movie industry. Like most writer both Larson and Moore are schooled in this concept. Infact the concept was ordered by ABC because they did not want the killing of people or any living creature displayed during family hour.
