BSG because the interelationships between their culture and our ancient cultures gave us so much to explore... who knows what they'd have run into on the journey.... possibilities are endless...

Cool

As someone that commands a Star Destroyer and a Battlestar, I have to say that my Star Destroyer kicks far more ass than my Battlestar!

With Respect,

Star Destroyer Agamemnon

I like both shows. Richer is an interesting word. If you mean richer as in more diversity of stories, fans, etc. you have to say Star Trek hands down. If you mean richer by how it touches the human soul or relates to people I have to say Battlestar.

Star Trek to me is a communist utopian view of the world. A classless society where money does not exist and the goals of each person is self-fulfilment. A nice thought but a load of hooey. I love seeing the various jobs people do in the show but supposedly don't get paid for. If Star Trek was reality it would be a big welfare state where the majority of the population was fat dumb and debasing themselves in halodeck suites.

Battlestar is rich because either old or new it reflects reality. Starbuck gambles for cubits not just for fun because cubits buy real things. Main characters die like Zac and Serena and leave parents, brother, and children grieving not the red shirts or single no family contract disputers of Star Trek. When Worf had a kid it was easy to ship him off to his grandparents on Earth so Star Trek can get back to the Utopian relationships. They dragged Alexander out near the end because he was 18 years old and didn't need a father but could milk his character for a few tear jerkers.

The bottom line is that Battlestar is about real families in situations greater than themselves. Star Trek is about friends in an idealized world. A Star Trek officer may be reassigned in a later episode. A Galactica Officer will live and die on the Galactica or fighting for her. His only family alive or adopted is in the rag tag fleet. The Galactica is home. Star Fleet is a job.

sadly, i had to say SWU.... expecially if you read the EU books... its so complex, so many characters, story lines, plots.... and for fanfiction writers its a hayday to play with too since there are so many options for worlds, aliens, jedi, sith.... time periods.... etc.

--

If no one knows what the EU is, it's the 'expanded Universe' there are probably almost 100 books post ep 6 rotj. They very from adult books (the first three were a trilogy by Timothy Zahn, which inserted the idea of the new republic being back) to young children and preteen/teen books (the Young Jedi Knights and Junior Jedi knights series focusing on Jaina, jacen, anakin, tahiri, lowbacca, tenel ka, Zekk and others). There's a book called the courtship of princess leia which follows han kidnapping her. There's the character of Mara Jade, the ex-emporers hand (an assasin) whose final command was to kill luke skywalker... not only does she kill his clone... but she marries the real him years later. There are books focusing on Rogue squadron, Wraith squadron, the Jedi Academy, and most recently the 'new Jedi order' series.

The new Jedi order is every character from the OS trilogy thats still alive, characters from the EU of every book, trilogy, and series, all tied together in a complex tale that takes around 20 books to complete, and is 25 years post ROTJ. The premise of it is the Yuuzhan Vong have entered the Galaxy from beyond the outer rim... from another galaxy. The Vong use no machinery and view all aliens and humans in the sw galaxy as infidels. Their goal is to purge the galaxy of the machine abominations, take slaves, kill the jedi. Along the way one member of the OT is killed, a solo falls to the dark side, one of the most valuable and most powerful jedi, a solo, is killed... his girlfriend then goes insane. A baby is born, the jedi academy distoyed... The jedi hunted once more, and the vong are outside the force.

The main characters for this new order series include: Han solo, Ambassador leia organa solo, JM luke skywalker, JM mara jade-skywalker, JK jacen solo, JA jaina solo, JM Kyp durron, JM Corran horn (his wife Mirax as well as her father Booster Terrik play major roled), JK Ganner Rhysode, chancellor Borsk Fey'la, Gran Admiral Palleon and other imperials, JK and princess Tenel ka, JK Zekk, Lando, General Wedge antilles, Colonel Gavin Darklighter, JA Tahiri Veila, JK Anakin solo, baby Ben skywalker... and thats just to name a *few* .

I answered too soon and the wrong question! I read Star TREK in my head instead of Star WARS. Sorry. I'll have to think on this one.

Fun poll but tuff question. I had to go with SW because the question was vague perhaps on purpose. SW universe is more developed and Battlestar's universe still needs to be scripted out.

Lucas couldn't take advantage of the Star wars universe in his 2 prequels release so far, 'The Phantom Menace' and Attack of the Clones' very poor films both...

The originals are classics though...

I liked the original Star Wars alot but didn't care much for the next two. I enjoyed the two prequels but didn't think they were great.

I think the Star Wars universe is more developed but the more of the "force" I see the more the mysticism of the original seems to go away for me. More elitism versus faith.

The battlestar universe reaches me because it follows my real life and faith beliefs. I want more Battlestar. I am kind of burned out on Star Wars.

BG is like a mural with only one corner filled in. Star Wars had had a chance to illustrate and expand on their universe.
