Default there are a lot of ruffled feathers around here

Kaith Rustaz: from the thread you linked to :

The problem comes in when you create a new version of something foregoes the essential elements of the old. For example, imagine if in the 1980s, a new miniseries called Star Trek came out that recast Kirk, Spock, McCoy etc. entirely and put them on an Enterprise that was a warship armed to the teeth. Worse, imagine if it made Spock a female and from some warrior race that used sex and seduction to conquer their enemies... from Guru @ http://blaser.tzo.com/tcon/viewtopic.php?t=1790
This is the problem most of us have, and had throughout the production of this monstrocity. I say that as someone who opened his mind to view the mini with as little prejudice as possible. While I agree that there are possibilities, you can't say this compares to something like "Encounter at Farpoint". TNG only updated the show. We still had Kirk, Spock, and the others as figures in the imagined history of the Star Trek world, as well as the fact that they were using a "newer" ship, not a completely different one that just happens to look the same.

Like I said, there are a lot of hard feeling here. So I will put my own aside for a moment. As a piece regarded on its own merits, the mini was attrocious. Bad acting, bad directing, bad writing, bad effects, bad sets, and bad costumes don't add up to something with potential. IMHO

I both agree and disagree. I tried to view it as a 'pilot episode', Yes, there were 'problems' with the acting, directing, effects. I personally did like the sets, as some thing did make sense as we went that in the past didn't. The costumes were ok from a sci-fi perspective, but, I would have prefered to see the original warrior uniforms and jackets.

If this doesn't go to series, I'd like to see another 4 hour mini done, just to give them a bit more room to 'polish' things. Worst case, if they do that, it may help fan more flames to greenlight a theatrical piece with the original cast.

Trust me, I can find alot to dislike here. I'm just seeking a glimer of light in what was pretty dark. (And I'm not refering to the lighting effects)

Peace.
