Setups for a continued series
Of you that liked the mini, and watched the original, how many details can you point out that dovetail in with the old show that they might play on in a series extention of this version?
The mention of the prison ship, and a redo of Ice Station Zero?
There was mention on one of SciFi's chats about some of the geeks wanting to retell (apologies to old schoolers if I misspeak the title) "Living Legends" the bit about the Pegasus and Cmdr. Cain. How cool would that be?
Are there other references I missed?

Threads I think we might see explored:
* A "Bladerunner" style story with Boomer - ie she doesn't realise she's an artificial being, and there will probably be a long story arc dealing with the revelation that she isn't a 'real' person, the emotional consequences of that for her, and her struggling with her senses of identity and allegience.
* Struggles between military and civilian rule.
* The emotional, social and spiritual consequences of genocide, being a refugee, and the social chaos and reorganisation that follows. Think of the plot lines alluded to in TOS pilot that were never followed through: starvation, religious extremism, class/econimic tension.

geeks explained
In that sense I was referring to geeks that are producing/writing the mini, and perhaps its spin-off series.
Where I come from, geek is not a bad word.More of a badge of honor.

Living Legends
And the geeks involved in production were mentioning getting Don Johnson to play Cmdr Cain as a Miami Vice reunion.

Geeks I can understand. Can we lose the "Old Schoolers"? As a woman getting close to the big 40, I prefer the term original series fans, please.

Where did you hear that Don Johnson was being considered. He seems awfully out of place with the casting they have allready done so far.

over 40 is grand
Hey, I'm 37. If I hated the mini, I would be "old school."
I saw the D. Johnson ref on scifi.com BSG chat transcripts, the Olmos chat I believe.Just a passing mention of it,and I am too lazy and frustrated with their site to go back there.
The idea was quickly shot down.

How about just calling us "Fans of the TOS"? Because if we get called "geeks" we're gonna have to make up names for the mini-series fans and this is gonna get really ugly.

actually, technically us old schoolers are "series" fans while the others are "mini" fans. or you can say we are "network" and "cable" fans.
But I would say drop the old school, cause it annoys some people. And if something annoys someone, why not have the courtesy to drop it?
I would also add that this forum's main purpose is for "series" fans that enjoy the mini. The purpose here is to enjoy the place. so everyone enjoy some good ambrosia.

I'm not a network fan, but not because I'm not old enough. I simply gave up tv when I was 14 and didn't resume until I was 43. Anyhoo, is there a possibility that the Boomer on Galactica is human, and the Cylon Boomers are just a clones?

I don't think so. They made a big deal about telling how the Cylons had managed to manufacture such realistic looking androids, but made no mention of the Cylons also developing cloning technology.

the real boomer vs. the cylon boomer. very cool idea. I like that a lot. Maybe the cylons are clones of real people and one model could be an Adama.

Hey, I think your opinion is obviously biased. Chief Tyrol wouldn't want to admit to himself that he'd been romancing a machine, right? At least a clone doesn't sound as cold.

I agree completely but there is Tyrol the character who if we assume his thoughts he would never want to know she is a machine but then there is me the fan who thinks that would be fun to play and a very interesting idea. I told David and Ron that when Boomer is found out Tyrol should be the one to take her out. That would be a great scene if written properly but then again if it is not I will just make up new lines and ad-lib away.

As a writer, I wouldn't mind taking a stab at that scene myself...
But then, I might be accused of ulterior motives...

Tyrol, based on what you previously posted, about being a series fan and not wanting the mini to be made, and hoping to be able to add your own ideas in, when you filmed the scene in which your character presented Adama's old Viper, did you have any thoughts at the time, like "This is from the old show, this is from the old show where it all began! I present this to Adama to remind him of his younger hot shot pilot days, but really to remind myself and everyone else about the show I grew up loving!"?
heh heh, I apologize for the run on sentence. I couldn't stop to take a breath while I was writing it!

I'm a hard-core TOS fan, Aaron. Over the past several months I've worked to do whatever damage I could to a production I saw as being anything but BSG.
My "ulterior motives" would be to do whatever damage I could do to any following series!
However, the creative part of me enjoys writing the emotionally charged kind of scenes that you have suggested. Even though I have no idea about your character or what makes him tick, I can see in my mind's eye the moment he discovers his lover is a Cylon spy, and the agony he goes through when he "takes her out" - although I see him with an original-series laser blaster doing it!

Dawg. I totally understand and get your point of view now. If you have a second go to the thread that I started where someone asked about doing the new show and my thoughts on it. It may give you an idea of where I am at as a fan.
It really could be a cool scene. Maybe Tyrol can't bring himself to do it so he leaves her on a planet alone, presumably to die. That may be cool to play as well.

That is a huge sentence. Nice work. Your english teacher is rolling over in his grave.
I would never be so pretentious to think something like that. I understand that there are the references to the old show and they are quite cool and fun but for anyone to think that they are so big as to 'remind' the audience of the original with thier 'I am going to walk or chew my gum or whatever just like so and so in the original' is just plain dumb. Maybe Eddie and Mary can get away with fun stuff like that but I would not insult the original cast or the fans by taking that on. It was great fun to hang around with the old Vipers and it was a great honour to be the guy who shows it to the audience for the first time. These are really important icons for the fans and myself. The fortunate thing for me is there was no Tyrol in the original show so I could sort of make him my own without having the preconcieved ideas of how he should be.
Wow, how is that for a run-on paragraph.

That's also a good possibility for drama, too - but do you think Tyrol has the guts to pull the trigger? Which way do you think would make the best drama - particularly if the Cylon Boomer could show up later?
(BTW, it was my question in the other thread you answered, too - I gave you a for your answer.)

Ah forgive me sometimes I am a dumb dumb. and not very good with computers.
Interesting question. How betrayed would he feel? What are his feelings between love and duty. One thought I did have a couple of months ago is that Tyrol is there when she is activated, kills her and dumps her into space or something and then goes to report it to Adama and while he is she shows up, or at least another one does. Then Tyrol is thought to be nuts or a Cylon himself. Then he could steal a ship and have his own spin off show.
I think Tyrol is so duty bound that he would pull the trigger but it would be hard.

There are several ideas running through my head, possibilities for scenes and dialogue. You know, it's a real shame I don't like this. I could like this. I'm so dreadfully sorry they picked on BSG for this....
Anyway, I hope to "run into you" again while you're on-line, Aaron. Thanks. I've really enjoyed our conversation.
