Low down on all week before the 8th
Hello All,
I’ve just got done watching Battlestar Galactica: Lowdown on Sci-Fi. My first impression is to quickly dismiss the people who believe that technology and special effects
can change or improve upon the unity, dignity, and emotions of humankind when put into a heart wrenching position of eradication. There is no connection with us, no real sense of
belonging to these people. This mini will be cold - I can tell from just the few pieces that they chose to release in this hour of introduction.
I totally disliked the chick that will replace our beloved Starbuck - THE MALE STARBUCK. Starbitch is not a woman at all, but a man trapped in a woman’s body.
Moore snipped Starbuck’s balls and pasted them onto Starbitch. Too bad. If he wanted a strong woman character then why not choose to be original and invent one. He seemed to be able to invent the Cylon woman - Six of Whatever. Oh, maybe her cousin - Seven of
Nine will make a guest appearance. The Boomer character is not going to sell. Why call her Boomer.... it is not Boomer. What - names are us?
Lee is a pansy. He is a weak human being who is self absorbed; meaning that there are no heroes in this epic. HELLO RON.. GOT TO HAVE GOOD TO FIGHT EVIL!
Without the sacrificial hero, there is not much depth... OH wait! Sex - now there is the depth in this mini.
I can’t say enough about the actor Edward James Almos. He has always given a stellar performance, and I am sure that he has taken the material dished out to him and
tried to salvage something of a performance. And Mary has nothing to worry about as her part was written with her in mind.
It’s not that I am afraid of a more modern approach to Galactica. I can see a few characters not brought back, or a few new characters brought to the foreground. I realize
that movie magic has advanced since the late 70s. Most “PURISTS” do. OH, that’s what the new and improvised Galactica folk are calling those of us who would rather see
Original story - Original characters brought back. Ice is not compatible with the fire of the human spirit. They have stripped all spirit from Galactica and left her empty. She is full of sex and violent special effects instead. Too bad that after waiting all of these years - Universal decides to feed us this.
Now, let us address the appearance of the actors who played the original two most beloved Galactica characters - Apollo and Starbuck. Dirk meets Starbitch at a Starbuck’s coffee shop and presents her with a cigar and talks to her like she was a bimbo and perhaps he is. He was correct when he said that he was the one and only Starbuck. His conscience was moved into a second-rate actor’s body and really botched up badly.
HEY STARBITCH... DEAL!
As for Richard Hatch, I watched this show with the express purpose of finding something deceiving about his appearance. From the start, Richard was honestly blunt in
saying that they made a serious mistake when casting a woman in place of Starbuck - a man. “Women are important - why not bring onboard a few new strong women characters?” He also said that “you have to tread a thin line when trying to bring back a classic.” I’ve seen him in person, I’ve heard him on video, in interviews talk about Ron
Moore’s Galactica impersonation. He is not thrilled. He wasn’t thrilled then and he still is not thrilled. But I’ll tell you what I got out of this appearance... he - like so many fans will
watch this and hope for something to change their minds about it. It’s very different which may weigh like a bus around it’s neck, but is there something Galactican that they
-that we can grab onto? Nice thought.. don’t think it has any credence.
Last thoughts... those who believe that because they made an appearance on this sci-fi promotion that Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict are being disloyal to the Purists need to think twice before they go further. Richard Hatch has been a driving force behind Galactica for years. It is his money, sweat, and tears that has brought the epic from cob webs in some storage room to something that Universal had to sit up and take notice of. In many respects, Richard Hatch is Captain Apollo. There will be no other. Likewise,
there is no one who can take the place of that rogue and rascal Lt. Starbuck. Dirk will always be the one and only. To call Richard a traitor, to call him Baltar is unfair. He was
invited because he impacted even those who were luck enough to take their vision to the set and see it in the can. Place your anger on the right horse... Ron Moore and his vision.
So, there you have it. Lowdown was a good title for this particular show. Low down is what they’ve been to fans. Low is what the ratings will be. We don’t want reality
a la Moore! We want Galactica a la the original!!!

So True!!!
Excellent review cdlegend!!!! I have not seen this Lowdown thing and I will NOT be seeing it either.
I watched the two ORIGINAL episodes that they showed yesterday on Sci-Fi and during it, whenever they played one of those idiotic promos for the mini, I threw something at my TV, it made me sick!!!!!!
Once again, I will not be watching anything remotely associated with this new abomination to our beloved show...

yeah....
and I swear, when I was watching Take the Celestra, there were additional scenes in it that I had not seen before in the syndicated version that they always show!!! Was that just me or are they showing a slightly different version????
AND, I passed the first test last night. They were showing The Lowdown thing again and I was reading a book. I kept on reading and totally ignored the show. In fact, I did not even turn on my tv set!!!
Now just to get past Monday and Tuesday night....
