RDM probably thought that blacks were too 70's and campy to include in his new version.

Hi Boomer! Welcome to Colonial Fleets!
You are absolutely right! It is just another thoughtless shot at the fans. Boomer was a wonderful character, as was Tigh. There was no reason to remove all African Americans from prominent roles in the show, other than to alienate yet another important group of viewers.
Thank you for posting, please feel free to wander around the site! Lots of nice people here, and you will find that /all/ of us are shocked at this terrible omission.

what was so great about tos was there was no metion of race or racial tension in the show, yet there were multiple cultures and they were equals.
In fact I bet if they Made Starbuck a black man instead of a woman, hardly ANYONE would've complained.

What can we say, RDM is a short sighted close minded man. So it should really be no surprise.

:lol
Grace Park is Asian.(Babe)..and the only Asian other than Maren Jensen who was part Asian.(Another babe)..in the BG saga. It is apparent that not only they traded genders they also traded races for Boomer also. Either way Asians have been rarely represented on Battlestar Galactica as main characters aside from Athena or now with Boomer.
Even Olmos a Hispanic is the first in the BG series.
If you look at Scfi series over all, Asians and Hispanics are practically non existent in main character roles...Including Star Trek.
Only Andromeda and Dark Angel have really had main Characters of Asian or Hispanic origins recently....no just supporting roles.

And Smallville who has Kristin Kreuk as a Co star who is part Asian.
Tom Welling who plays Superman is part American Indian. BTW.

Dean Cain is part asian. Though Maren Jensen was Hawaiian so I'm not sure she counts.
The problem with asian casting is not so much scifi related but is a hollywood thing. We have shows that are entirely latino, and some all african american. But where is the one with an all asian cast?
The racial casting of BG was typical of the time. The new one is kinda predisposed to white.
but then I don't really consider it a big deal.

There were two shows on ABC...
In the 80's with Pat Morita..
And Margaret Cho's All American Girl....in the 90s.
At least with Asians in the leads.
Maren ....yeah was Dutch/Polyneisian....but Hawaiians are basically a mix of Asian and Caucasian strains....
The Beauty of BG TOS was we were dealing with a old civilization that seemed to have no concept of racial divisions of man.....just humans...which was a very good aspect of the show.....

O.O no blacks?
Petty Officer Dualla is played by Kandyse McClure. She is African-Canadian.
Also when they remove the cylon device off the bridge there' a man with her who is obviously Black. they are also probably not the only characters... DUalla's just the only main character.

What about Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Zylyn in Space Rangers?
He was a lead character (one of the 4 main characters and the one with the most presence).
He has guest starred on other shows, including playing a mongol-like leader in an early SG1 ep where he bought Sam Carter. :p

I find it very interesting that there seem to be two points of view regarding the mini that seem diametrically opposed to each other. One is that the mini is way too PC, the other is that it isn't PC enough."
