Default Jeannie/Bewitched Trivia

I love TVLand, it's the only channel with anything decent on these days. They tend to group eps by content sometimes, and I noticed something really funny yesterday.

On Bewitched, the episode called "Aunt Clara's Short Happy Circuit", Aunt Clara drops down the chimney to the sound effect of --- I Dream of Jeannie's returning to the bottle sound effect! Ooh, no show rivalry there!

On the same day, TVLand showed the Jeannie episode "Haven't I Seen Me Someplace Before?". During a "magic moment", they used the sound effect -- Samantha's spell sound effect! Ooh! Naughty, naughty! Getting even with the Stevens!

I just wondered if anyone else watched yesterday and noticed that. I know the shows were rivals, just didn't realize how much so.

Cheers!

Muffit -

There was no rivalry involved at all... other than the fact that they were on separate networks! Bewitched was on ABC and I Dream of Jeannie was on NBC.

There is a most interesting connection between both of the shows though...

- Both shows were filmed at Columbia Studios.
- Both shows were productions of Sidney Sheldon and Screen Gems.
- Both shows had Sunset Editorial to edit the music and sound EFX. (This explains the sound EFX sharing!)

The exteriors for the homes used were on the same street at Columbia. Major Nelson's house was in the middle of the block and the Stephens' home was at the end of the same street where it ends in a semi "T" shape and spilts off in two directions on either side of the Stephens' house.

If you watch Jeannie closely, pay attention to the set that is used as Dr. Bellows' home - it is a re-dressed version of the set for Bewitched!

I could go on and on with this, but I think that you get where I'm going with this...

I heope this helps explain things a bit!

Best regards,
Bryan

Thanks Bryan! Wow, didn't realize. I thought NBC was trying to cash in on the supernatural theme when they introduced Jeannie a year after Bewitched started. I have no idea what their time slots were. I do remember that the original Star Trek aired opposite Bewitched cuz my family fought over which channel to watch that year.

Thanks so much for the info!

P.S. That's so cool about Dr. Bellows house

Here is some more trivia you will like.

Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart were the driving force behind the monkees tv show. They wrote the opening theme and many other songs. They also both appeared on Bewitched and Jeannie. I forget the Bewitched episode, but the Jeannie one is where she forms a rock band with her as the drummer. The two main musicians were Boyce and Hart.

They latter went on to do songs for Scooby Doo, Josie and the Pussycats, etc.

Thanks Thomas! I saw that Jeannie episode recently. I /thought/ they were real musicians! (Many shows have guests or stars playing instruments, and knowing how to play several myself I can always tell when they are faking. But that Jeannie ep looked like they really knew what they were doing).

Thanks!
