Default On the 1 year anniversary

This is written to let those at the SciFi Channel know a little about how I feel on this one year anniversary of the big rug-pulling maneuver that may have changed the future of our series.

Battlestar Galactica

One year ago today, on April 2, 2002, the SciFi Channel attempted to kill the classic science fiction series Battlestar Galactica even as it was emerging from a long hiatus. Tom DeSanto was fired, his continuation production was canned, and a new team led by Star Trek and Roswell veteran writer Ronald D. Moore was introduced to “reimagine” Battlestar Galactica. In the process, the wishes of fans of the original series were ignored, or when those wishes were considered, they were ridiculed. When we attempted to work for compromise, our wishes were caustically rebuffed.

Today, in memory of that dark day one year ago when the SciFi Channel attempted to crush the hopes and dreams of Battlestar Galactica fans around the world, I am dressed completely in black. However, I do this in honor of and respect to the original series, not out of a sense of sadness or forlornness. You see, unlike Mr. Moore, Mr. Eick, and the puppeteers pulling their strings at the SciFi Channel, I feel somewhat akin to the Colonials of the original Battlestar Galactica, knowing that even in what seems to be the darkest of times, there is still hope of surviving and even emerging victorious. While I am clothed in black today, tomorrow is another day. You see, unlike Mr. Moore and the others who insist on overwriting the original, I know what Battlestar Galactica WAS and CAN STILL BE.

While this particular battle may be lost, like the Colonials of Battlestar Galactica, I still have hope for what can be. But is it lost? While Mr. Moore and his minions see victory at the end of the tunnel, I see that part of the tunnel still remains, that change is still possible. Universal, are you listening?
