How would it begin?
A contnuation I mean?
I'd begin it with a Voice over by Apollo saying how His father had been killed shortly after the events in Hand of God.
He would tell about the difficulty of keeping the fleet together without the guidance and vision of Adama.
He would Tell us about the the loss of friends and family over the course of time.
But he would also tell of a remarkable discovery that had given people new hope.
The remnants of a civilization that had broken away from the 13th tribe.
With resources & technology abundnat enough to refit galactica and build larger generational ships for the rest of the fleet.
from there i dunno where i'd take the story.
I cant imagine people living under the conditions shown in the original for 25 years without some serious bloodshead happenin in those ships.
So thats why i figgure that they are able to sort that situation out sometime shortly after HoG.

I'd have the vioce of apollo telling us that his father died of natural causes after leading the fleet for x-number of years, then telling us that tigh had command for a while before giving up command to retire to the council of twelve.
The events then could start with his first major command decision as commander of the fleet and we can watch him develop as a commander from there...

Re: How would it begin?
The introduction sounds good to me. And yes, you're right, there must have been some sort of altercations during the 25 year voyage. Being cooped up in those ships with only occassional shore leave would be difficult.
But you know, the Colonials were very intelligent, compassionate people. I bet they found a way to get a long and cope with their situation.

I dont know how compassionate they were.
If the new council of 12 and the people on the freighter where they picked up cassi were any indication.
And even tho people generaly are able to pull together diring adverse times, even that feeling eventualy wears away and people packed up like that will eventually turn on each other.
I see Adama going out bigtime not from natural causes.
possibly some kind of confrontation between him and baltar.

Hito: I like your start. Especially that they found friends on the way to retrofit the ships. I think a planetside stop would have been necessary to maintain everyone's sanity. Even Hatch's books talk about the high numbers of orphans the conditions created over the years & other societal fringe degeneration from the conditions.

Interesting....
The idea of a planet-side visit is interesting, probably very necessary for the Colonials after being on board ships so long.
A twist would be to have various members of the civilian population decide to settle on one of the planets that they pass by. As time went on, they would wind up re-seeding the Colonies on a number of distant planets (on their way to Earth).
How many would do this?
How many civilian ships would wind up leaving the rag-tag fleet?
Another question would be whether they would be 'colonizing' these planets or integrating into an already existing (human?) population.
I like the idea of Apollo recounting about Adama. With f/x as they are today, would it be possible to have Lorne Greene's image of Adama 'visit' Apollo, to say good-bye, wish him well, etc.
Just some random thoughts, (be kind),

The Beginning
It should start off with the famous theme while flashbacks are shown to educate the viewer. Next would be a close up shot of the huge Galactica with Apollo siting at the desk recording his log:
Apollo:
"We have traveled now for 25 yahren and still are seeking that brother world described to us in teachings and writings discovered by my late father the great Commander Adama. The quest has been a difficult one with many wanting to settle on any habitable world but I believe the journey must continue."

Great start Hito, I like the idea of Adama going out a hero...oh to only see Greene play it. A great finish to the legend that young new warriors would admire.
Better than anything Moore is giving us. As the years went by with out Cylons hunting them the Colonials would have tackeled the cramp fleet conditions.
Another thread of ideas that respect TOS...another example of why I can't accept Moore-imagination.

I have always hoped that the colonials would reach a point where they could rebuild the fleet (of Battlestars) and then, once the civilians were settled and Earth re-took its place as the Thirteenth Tribe of Kobol, launch the Mother of All Offensives with the ultimate goal of reclaiming the Colonies and re-establishing humankind between there and Earth.
(I'm just a hopeless romantic and eternal optimist).
By doing this, you would most likely be setting the end point of the saga which brings to mind a question:
how do we fill the gaps between HoG and the eventual end point of the story and also the gaps between the exodus from Kobol (or even an earlier starting point) and the Holocaust of the Colonies? Would a series of stories, i.e., volume 1, volume 2, etc, telling the tales of a specific period of time be a viable method?
Need help...
Just some random thougts,
