The Cylinder Records and BSG

There is one moment in my past that hurts me to this day. I was very young and we were coming back from my Grandma's. We had made a special trip (she lived 2 1/2 hours away) to get something from her for safekeeping. They were these little yellow boxes; I was too young to care what was in them. My mom made a big fuss over them, finally deciding to place them next to her on the front seat. My siblings were placed thoughtfully in the back seat. I being the most careful and considerate (or so it was deemed) was placed in the front seat on the other side of the boxes.

About an hour into the return journey, my siblings invented a game of rolling with the curves on the mountain roads (remember there were virtually no seat belts in the 50's). My mom was too busy driving to notice I wanted to join in too. I rolled to the right. I rolled to the left. Crunch. For the sake of a moment's fun I had ruined the whole point of our long journey, and a dozen priceless cylinder records in their original boxes were now destroyed forever.

Do TPTB know what they have in Battlestar Galactica? It's like a priceless cylinder record just waiting to be played and enjoyed like the day it was made. It's irreplaceable. We are nearing the end of a 25 year journey. Please don't sit on this priceless opportunity, or damage it for the sake of the moment. Two generations of audiences are waiting to see it played anew. Played by the voices the past has come to love, and the present is dying to hear.

Hi Micheleh

When records first came out ages ago they were not flat like LPs you've probably seen (and even those are obsolete now!). They looked much like the cardboard cylinder at the center of a toilet paper roll (only a very hard and brittle wax or plastic). They were EXTREMELY fragile and are very rare and valuable. My grandma had saved them from her childhood and they were precious to her (there were recordings of things then you could not find anywhere else today).

So you can imagine my feelings when I realized I had broken them. It's kinda like losing the only photos you have of a child that has passed.

Thanks for reading and your reply
