"Fields" has been rolling around in my head for several years; this is the first time it has actually been written down.

I don't like dwelling on plot contrivances, the "disaster of the week" formula; if something goes wrong badly enough, heroic action probably won't save the day.

That said, one of th strong suits of CBSG is that it portrayed a _different_ culture from 20th Century America: the clothing, social mores, language, government, religion, military and combat styles - while somewhat similar to ours - were very, very different.

I want "Fields" to preserve this.

To that end, I have had to make a long list of assumptions in regards the BSG universe. Please note that these assumptions are ones that I am hammering into place to make sense of what we see on-screen in the CBSG episodes. That will appear under a separate topic-header.

There is a long series of arguments within the sci-fi community that follow the general course of "who-can-kick-who's-butt", and then go on to match up two or three _very_ different sci-fi universes.

That will not happen in "Fields".

While I like 'crossover' stories a lot, that's not the story that I want to write. "Fields" will be based solely on what we see on-screen - with a modicum of extrapolation to rationalize the technology and systems, coupled with my own real-world experience:

I served in the USMC for 6 years, 1984-1990, as a Supply and Logistics specialist; I also have a little experience in NBC warfare and demolitions; I have been a role-player since 1977; I have a very extensive background in corporate security, executive protection, and catstrophic survival preparedness.

I am not God, however; close shaves with death remove that fantasy pretty quickly...So, I welcome any advice and comments.

As someone who is not big on fan fiction I have to say that I really enjoyed this. More please!!!

I have always said that we have ingorned Cain when it comes to the grit way too much. Adama was hope and Cain was battle. Galactica was the merging of the two.

A story like this is what we have been lacking.

Hi Everyone!

I've made a decision to change a couple of thing's around in the story.

I always wanted to use the ship name "Medusa" as the main vessel in the story; I just think that "Battlestar Medusa" has a very cool ring to it.

I've also decided that I am going to set up a 'Battlestar Medusa' website and e-group(most likely at GeoCities/Yahoo -- the price of living on a budget) that will incorporate both this story, and a home-brew RPG. This should be set up by the end of the weekend; when it's done, I'll post the link here.......

I was thinking, it would be interesting if the Cylons were not only fighting the humans, but maybe they ahve another front that we dont know about. After all, they dont seem to be the nicest neibors. That would explain the fact that they dont seem to allocate all their resources effectivly.

War Machine, you have written a wonderous piece of work there. Your military experience clearly shows up in certain situations in this story, which is a nice explanatory tale of the events at Molecay. You have a very Tom Clancy-esque approach to describing various implements of warfare, and I could relate to them immediately (having done the same with my own fanfics "Dark Exodus" and the sequel in progress "Reciprocity".)

I loved the scene in which Khufu takes Kendra before the Council. I laughed my head off. A wonderfully written scene.

Very engaging tale. You certainly have a grasp of what made Classic Galactica so wonderful, and without meaning to sound inappropriate, I even see eency-weency influences of TNS (speaking strictly from the realism standpoint).

Thanks much! I'm currently taking a break, working on another project for a friend in Italy(a 'Romans in Space' storyline), but FoI is still burbling around in the noggin'.

Writing for CBSG is a real treat. The original - and yes, I know it was the censors, but still - didn't get by on gratuitous sex and violence, unlike most of the tripe today. One of CBSG's strong suits was the fact that there were almost no "shades of gray": you knew exactly who the enemy was, and why they were the bad guys.

As to GINO, the similarity is strictly superficial. Having watched it more than a few times(it's rather like the fascination of slowing down at a car wreck), I rank it well below even SG1(don't get me started on the "hand-grenades-into-the-Naq-Reactor" ) -- right down near "Hard Ticket To Hawaii" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093146/ -- -- when it comes to combat-realism(I still giggle insanely over the "RPG-at-the-snake-in-the-toilet-shot"); trust me "Hard Ticket..." is a REAL screamer

Because there was never a Season 2, we never got to see a lot of the things that had to exist in the CBSG 'verse.

That said: wow...I just got compared to The Clancy.

I just read the full story, in fact I read it several times, and then went through my own 3rd version. (Yes theres a third and final version of my story on battlestargalacticaclub) Im so reinvigorated. Im already working on the lastest chapter and this is like gasoline on my writing fire. (Not sure what that means but I think its a good thing) So thanksm FoI is totally rocking, and its got me back into the creative writing mood. (Burn out sucks)
