Richard Hatch's religion?
O.k., I'm worried this may seems a bit too personal, but it's well known Glen Larson was a Mormon. So was Orson Scott Card. I was wondering if Richard Hatch had any particular religious beliefs he tried to bring to his books?

FYI - I moved the thread to the BSG Discussion forum. The topic seemed to be better suited for general discussion.
Regarding the topic, this is an interesting question. Perhaps Micheleh could provide some insight.

here is my two cubits to this.
I never question anyone's religion. I look at them as human beings not a product of a certain religion, so what does it matter what religion or religious beliefs he has.
Just my humble opinion!

Mustex, I kind of wondered about the influence his beliefs had in his writing too, from reading the books.
I think some of the stuff in the books tend more Eastern in some ways, meditation style for one; but I don't see him using the writing in them to promote anything specific. I think he did try to keep more in flow with the spirit of the series in his books (with mixed success due to some of the co-author's writing/publisher printing unpolished manuscripts). Chris Golden's collaborations I noticed a monotheistic use of "God" where Stan Timmons' used a more pantheistic "gods" when deities were referred to, for example. Stan's use reminded me more of Greek, Roman and Egyptian religions, while Chris' gave me that feeling of "similar, but different than earth Christian" that Glen's mix in of Mormonism gave to the cultural background of the Colonials, IMO.
From talking to Richard, I more notice that he treats everyone's beliefs with a good amount of genuine respect, than I see him pushing any specific ideology/faith.
Richard did contribute to a book that was compiled by an author/editor that had 10 or 15 people from varied faith backgrounds answering the same questions. I can't recall the title right now other than I think it was something about heaven. "Bridges to Heaven" maybe? It was kind of an interesting way of comparing/contrasting beliefs.

So if you wanted to analyze the writings of Billy Grahm, or the Dhali Llama, you wouldn't take their religion into account?

Okay everyone -
Maybe I'm a bit dim at times, but I don't understand what the fuss is about...
Mustex prefaced his question with a statement that "maybe this is a bit personal", but all he really wanted to know is if Richard's religious preference (whatever that may be...) had an influence on his writing. It's an honest question and I think that Julie did a good job of answering it with the references that she provided. If anyone knows better, then they have probably decided not to join in the conversation as it would be speaking for Richard.
I can understand that someone's religious preference is a personal matter, but there are also those that do everything but place an ad in the daily paper concerning their own. To each his own in my book...
As to the topic at hand - discuss the material in Richard's books and how it might provide answers that Mustex is seeking. In other words, if you can't contribute to the discussion in a constructive manner and all you have is comments that don't further the discussion, then move on to a topic that suits your interests in a more agreeable fashion.
If that can't be accomplished, I will consider the discussion ended and will close this thread forthwith.
