BSG - Sagittara Rising
My second artwork on display here; last pic for 2001. (I'll stop counting after this.) 3D Studio Max meshes created by David Kerin (credit given on the picture); other artwork/layout by me.
From Battlestar Galactica:
Pre-"Saga of a Star World" as Colonial Vipers take point in front of the Galactica over Sagittara to intercept incoming Cylon Raiders. The "glory days" of Commander Adama and crew defending the Twelve Colonies...
1152 x 864 .jpg version here.
I'll get around to motion blurs soon. I wanted a clean snapshot look this time around.

Yup, I'm gonna Nitpick :D
Okay, I may be wrong about this, but, wasn't Galactica the Battlestar for Caprica ??

No. The Battlestars were never officially known to be attached to any of the Colonies. The only official tie in for Galactica to Caprica is that Adama and his family were from Caprica.

That's right. Caprica got the lion's share of attention (in terms of on-air mentions), since it was the Colonial world of our main characters, Commander Adama, Apollo and Starbuck, among others. But the myth that one battlestar originated from/was assigned to each Colony... that remains a myth.
In my rendering, I wanted to convey that the Galactica was defending one of the Twelve Colonies. Since I'm a Sagittarian, I couldn't resist the planetary selection.

Hell, the "12" Battlestars thing isn't official either!

Yup. I pulled the "Saga of a Star World" adaptation from my bookshelves to double-check the spelling of Sagittara. (In the novel, it's actually spelled Sagitara. Go figure.) According to Glen Larson and Robert Thurston, there were five battlestars in the pilot episode. Thus, I agree with Warrior.
Bear in mind, while there may have been five at the Peace Conference near Cimtar in the original episode, there were likely many, many more battlestars and warships *before* that. I still think recent, heavy casualities from Colonial/Cylon warfare reduced the Colonial fleet strength significantly. Between the loss of the Fifth Fleet at Molocay and Commander Kronos's losses, the Colonials were probably praying for hostilities to end. At least to rebuild their fleets.
Let the debates begin... (lol)

Well, there you go, you learn something new everyday LOL.
Anyway, I was under the impression that there was 12, one for each colony, but you guys know a hell of a lot more than I do about BSG so, go figure LOL....
((That's the reason why I had a kind've 'nitpicky problem' with Commander Cain and the Battlestar Pegasus popping up in the BSG TV series LOL ))
