Default Short Animation

Hello Everyone,
I am a newbee to this forum so I would like to say hello by posting this brief video.
I caught the "Galactica" buzz again a few days back and being a 3d modeler wanted to build a 3d version of the new Galactica. In my quest for images of the new BattleStar I came upon this awesome site and decided I would join in.
I see that most people here are hardcore fans of the original series, I am as well, but I am also very much in favor of the new series. In fact it was because of the new series that I regained my "Gallactica Buzz".
Anyway, in constructing the new BattleStar I would like to share the progress here with you all as I know you will appreciate the love and effort that will go into it. C&C are always welcomed as I know this will probably help bring out the best ship I can build.
Taranis thanks for the welcome on that previous thread, I would have replied there but didn't want to hyjack pdillon's thread . .
Thanks everyone in advance, I am going to continue surfing this forum and check out the awesom art you all have put together . . .
Here is the clip, I did it in lightwave back in 2001, my effects skills have gotten better since, maybe in the next shoot I will do Galactica some justice
Peace

Thanks jewls, it was a short roll, I was pushing my skill level at the time with some simple enveloped lenz flare effects and multiple camera shots. I am sure if I did it over today it would be 100 times better . . .

Hey 3d,
Welcome aboard! Glad to hear you're back in the Galactica saddle. Join in the discussions, we've got 'em for both shows.

Looking forward to seeing more of your art. But I'll try to be patient

Thanks Taranis glad you liked the site, yep, that Corsair and I have a history . . it's a nice ship and was fun to build, but I need to rebuild it. the wing tips did't come out like a planned, I will get to it eventually.
Also about LW, once you get passed the learning curve you will fly through it trust me on that. Have you started to model organics yet?
What version do you use?
I started with Inspire 3d in 1999 and quickly outgrew it, it seemed my scenes turned out to be larger than that prog could handle so I upgraded to LW . .
Fragmentary, thanks for the welcome, I will try to get some cool art work on here soon. Right now I am trying to wrap my head around this new Battlestar, very big ship. Can't figure out if I want to model it to scale. I got all the reference images I need to build it, it's just this thing is really big . . mama . . .
Does anyone here know the dimentions the ship is suppose to be?
I counted 84 supprt beams, running along the ships body . . these are my obsticles at the moment. Once I get a strategy for building those I will start the model . . . I predict over 1.5 million points in this model. . . did I mention it was a big ship

Yeah buddy, . . 8.3
you have all the bells and whistles, nice version . . . I am on 7.0 when I get the spare cash I may do the upgrade, but for now 7 is fine.

Organic modeling is. . . umm, not really sure I can explain this properly.
basically it is point modeling, manipulating the polygons and vertices and applying subpatching, to smothen out the surfaces . .
That's an aweful explanation I know . . someone help me out here . .

I will get you a better link. . .

Organic modeling is things like modeling a human being, aka flowing smooth curves. No "sharp" corners like on the big "G" or Vipers, etc.
