Cancelled too soon?
Obviously, if you frequent this site you would agree that Battlestar Galactica was cancelled too soon and wished that it had the chance to go beyond its first season. Genre fans have very long memories so I put forth this question:
What Sci Fi or Fantasy show do you think was cancelled before its time? In other words, what show do you wish was on for ten years?
For every Star Gate SG-1 ( 8 years), Star Trek The Next Generation ( 7 years) and X-files (9 years, I think) there have been many shows like Planet of the Apes (13 episodes) Space: Above and Beyond (one year) and Logan's Run (13 episodes).
Which cancelled shows do you wish you could buy in season by season boxed sets?

Fraser's behavior could be considered a fantasy, but I see your point.

I subscribe to the theory that every TV show and movie has at least one fan somewhere. The crappiest production you have ever seen has someone out there that loves it. (I like the Stephen Speilburg bomb 1941, go figure.) I guess that is why I enjoy shows that had short runs and yearn for more. Not to say that what I like is crappy but some people look down at them. My list of shows would include:
Planet of the Apes (Galen was great!)
Logan's Run (Rem you were really cool!)
Fortune Hunter (Don't touch that Dial!)
Tales of the Gold Monkey ( I loved this show so much in 1983!)
The Green Hornet (I got hooked when FX reran them 10 years ago)
The Time Tunnel (What can I say, I like Irwin Allen shows)
The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (Bruce Campbell Rules!)
Battlestar Galactica (Obviously.)
Space: 1999 (This was a show that could have gone anywhere.)
V The Series ( I wish they made a series of mini series rather than a full series.)
The Legend of the Rangers (This B-5 spin off could have been great!)
Crusade (This B-5 spin off was great. Galen the Techno-Mage Was great! Curse you TNT!)
Fantastic Journey (Anything with Roddy McDowel in it is great.)
I love these shows and wished they were on for decades!

First a FYI for Buffy/Angel fans:
From Sci-Fi Guys:
According to an Internet report, James Marsters (Spike) appeared on Australian television and revealed that he has been contacted by Joss Whedon to star in one of four television movies set in the Buffy Universe. According to Marsters, there are plans to do four movies with each focusing on a familiar character from Buffy/Angel. Marsters also revealed that either all four will be made or none would be made and so far he is the only one to commit. It sounds like a larger story arc if all four need to be made. Let's hope for the best.
While I don't consider a show that has run for at least 5 years should be considered in the poll and some of the main actors/actresses do make career decisions that effectively end the show, in addition to the above posts, below are some of my picks:
Witchblade, Lost in Space, The Invisible Man, The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, Something Is Out There, The Invaders, Space Rangers, Black Scorpion, Mutant X, 7 Days, The Chronicle, Adventures of Jules Verne, Kolchak: the Night Stalker, VR-5, Brimstone, Legend, Dark Skies, Bring 'Em Back Alive, Man From U.N.C.L.E., Girl From U.N.C.L.E., the Immortal, etc etc...lol

Those are great shows to add to the list Sci Fi! I definitely would have added Kolchak: The Night Stalker to the list had I thought of it.
One show that I have just thought of is Good Vs. Evil (AKA G vs E.) This was a fun show that really had an interesting mythos. I loved the Henry character. He was so cool!
The ABC Wonder Woman season (recently released on DVD) was a great addition to Super Hero Television. I wished she stayed in the 40s when the show switched to CBS. It lost something when Wonder Woman was doing her thing in the 1970s. I guess nabbing crooks didn't have the same mojo as saving the world from the nazis.
Ah well, TV fans can always dream about what could have been.

Hmmm, can't say I'd buy any of those shows you all mentioned. I pretty much got everything my heart desired in the DVD box set of Galactica!!!
And bijou, for some reason, I have always liked the movie "1941" also!! I think that John Belushi's character was the best ever! And Slim Pickens was a hoot!!!!

I agree with pretty much all but two or three of the shows listed above. Stupid studio execs and their almighty dollar fixation!

The problem with television is that new shows must be an immeadiate success to stay on the air. After that, it has to sustain that sucess. Science fiction shows often wither away because executives don't get it and thay don't believe in it. That is why they would much rather go with a sit com or a relality show. I wonder what television would be like if producers had more patience.

Yeah 1941 rocked. I dunno why anyone would call it a bomb. Except maybe "Da Bomb."
I didn't see any shows up there that I don't agree with. I loved all of them. But I'd like to add Strange Luck. D.B. Sweeney rules, and I wish they could have explained the link between that show and the X-Files, considering none of the cast or people behind the scenes had anything to do with each other, other than the fact that they both aired on Fox, on the same night. I just recall one of the last eps mentioning that he had a contact in the FBI named Fox Mulder. I remember it sent shivers down my spine.
That reminds me, how many X-Files spinoffs got cancelled? Its silly to me. They were all good, and yet they could have easily ended the X-Files in season 7. They pretty much wrapped it all up anyway. Everything after that was just kicking a dead horse I thought.
I wish I could catch Tru Calling though. My wife always complains that I have a fixation with Eliza Dushku anytime I watch it. I caught the pilot, and I thought it was cool, but I just couldn't see them doing that concept as a series... Apparently I'm being proven wrong, I just wish I could figure out why. *lol*

Who wouldn't have a fixation over Eliza Dushku?
i saw her on Jay Leno and she was rather sweetly coquetish and girly. Quite a change from the crazed dark Vampire Slayer Faith.

Slim was an icon of the cinema. His subtle and nuanced performance in 1941 will forever be remembered. Not many actors today could pull off a scene while sitting on the john while wearing cowboy boots. who could forget these immortal words?:
Now wait a minute general! How do you expect a guy to take a bowl movement with a bunch of guys with buffalo rifles a-pointing at 'im? Shoot, I can't even go in a public bathroom.
Why he did not win Best Supporting Actor in 1979, I'll never know.

It is amazing how many of the shows listed above have now been released on DVD since 2004. Another show that was killed off too soon was "Good Vs. Evil" or "G VS E". This show was on Sciffy back in 1999 or thereabouts before being sent to USA network and then obivion.

I think I'd do a list like so:
Battlestar Galactica - for so many reasons
Star Trek (TOS) - Damn them and not doing demographics until a few months later!!!!
Star Trek (TAS) - that one was really fun, but they put it as a Saturday morning cartoon. Why????
Enterprise - I wanted them to at least get to the Romulan Wars.
Jake 2.0 - Anybody remember that little UPN show a few years ago that did about 10 episodes?
Give me a few hours and I'll probably add to this list

Battlestar Galactica
Space:Above & Beyond(considered by some as the BSG of the 90's)
Greatest American Hero
Firefly
Man From Atlantis(this show deserves a DVD release)
Amazing Spider-Man(I admit to liking it, despite the goofy special effects it also deserves a DVD set)

So cool we have reopened this one!!
Most of those listed already, and BSG (TOS) of course, but I really regretted the 'what!! no more??' demise of Alien Nation and Firefly
I know AN got some telemovies, but they could have done so much more with it, it had lots more life left in the scenario.,..
Cheers,
Lara

Not a sci-fi/fantasy series, but "Moonlighting" still had life left in it, IMO. The writing on that show was the best of the best.
