LOL The Sound of Music Tonight

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Looks like tonight ABC is airing The Sound Of Music with Julie Andrews. Its a wonderful movie.

There is this one little bit of trivia I learned in film class about it. I think you might get a chuckle. In the very opening scene there is this sweep from afar to Julie singing on the mountaintop. Now you may never have noticed it, but there is an abrupt little cut from zoom to the next shot. What happened is that to do the zoom, they had to have a helicopter fly toward than over Julie Andrews. But the pilot came down too low!!!! Julia Andrews dives down cussing her head off, which had to be cut out! This left an rather abrupt cut from a moving shot to the next medium shot on her.

Its not too bad. But it is alot rougher than hollywood usually allows. But I doubt Andrews wanted to do the shot again.

Damn!

I missed it! I love "The Sound of Music" and Julie Andrews as well.....

Tom - thanks for the bit of trivia - I've never heard that bit about the helicopter shot!

Best,
Bryan

Thanks Thomas!! That trivia was great! I love Sound of Music, have it on laser and DVD (the remastering is bad though).

It's so funny to see the stiff uppercrust father in SOM appear as the most fearful (and animated) Klingon commander in Star Trek VI. Quite an actor!!!

Hi Thomas!! Yes, the famous and talented Christopher Plummer played both Capt von Trapp in the 1965 Sound of Music, and the infamous and taunting General Chang in Star Trek VI in 1991(!)

On directors, according to IMDB, Robert Wise directed ST:I while Nicholas Meyer directed ST:VI.

Another piece of Trek trivia, both DeForest Kelley and Ricardo Montalban played in an old black and white western together - in fact, you will see many flicks with mutliple cast members in them, most probably reflecting how they came to be in the series/movies together.

Also, one of Mr. Shatner's first roles (he looks SOOO young!!!) was as a very unlikeable and prejudiced lead character in an old b/w flick (I forget the name). Wow, so different from the enlightened captain who accepts one and all for what they are years later...

Happy holidays!!!

THAT WAS Chrisopher Plummer?!??!?!?!?! I didn't recognize him!!!!!

Thanks for the info!

Btw, speaking of their early performances.... do you remember the old Twilight Zone and Outer Limit performances? I actually thing Shatner was much better an actor when he was younger.
