West WIng: They Killed LEO!!!!
I really do not like the new direction the show is going since the series creator left.
They killed Leo McGarry.
I liked Leo. He was a great character.
The WEst Wing used to be about wonderful dialog and poignant insight into our goverment. But since the creator left, its been one big "event" after another. First the president daughter is kidnapped. Then a big showdown between republicans and the white house. Now its the middle east.
The new West Wings are too dull of must-see drama. Its too forced. Its working too hard to give us whattering dramas each week.
But I'm unhappy.
They killed Leo. But then I think the heart of this show was possibly lost already... ![Frown](http://www.colonialfleets.com/forums/images/smilies/colonial-sad.gif)

I really lost interest in the show after Sorkin left, and watched it tonight on a lark. What a bunch of crap! First the idea that Bartlet would simply dismiss Leo like he did goes against six seasons of characterization. Second, that nobody would notice a White House chief of staff looking gravely ill and dying at Camp David? I know I'm sounding like a typical internet geek here, but that's just stunt driven, piss poor story telling. They've turned a brilliant show into slightly highbrow version of "the OC." What a waste.

Holy frak. I've loved the show, even after Sorkin left, and watched it all of the time. I missed last night though, don't have cable TV anymore. Leo died? Damn, he was one of the strongest characters on the show. What about Donna Moss, after getting injured in the season finale...how was that resolved? I really can't believe they killed off Leo, he was so integral to the continuing storylines, with his relationship to Bartlett.

Donna's storyline went pretty much as you might expect. Donna was seriously hurt and transported to a hospital in Germany. it was touch and go for awhile with Josh flying to be by her side. I still care about the characters, but there wasn't any really interesting dialog. It was just as you would expect. But she should be coming back to WashingtonDC soon.
I think from the ads that Leo is going to be replaced by Alan Alda (MASH). I'm not to happy about that. Alda was great in Mash, but since then I haven't found him likable in any part he has played.
I think this may be the shark the show is jumping. ![cry](http://www.colonialfleets.com/forums/images/smilies/colonial-cry.gif)

I only saw parts of the episode and missed Bartlett dismissing Leo, I did see Leo die and it made no sense whatsoever. Camp David is as secure and probably even better patrolled than the White House (lets face it, large grassy lawns require less foot patrol than the Maryland woods). If 3 heads of state were at Camp David, every foot path would have a regular sweep through by the Secret Service or the military. And I think if we followed the logic of the shows past events: the Chief of Staff of each country would be as watched over as the heads of the country.
Crappy way to write off a fantastic character. I guess the rest of the series will be about Bartlett's guilt over dismissing his most trusted advisor right before he died.

I liked Alda in his short run on ER. I like Alda without a doubt, but why oh why get rid of Leo? Had the actor chosen to leave? He won an emmy last year if I remember, and his acceptance speech was heartfelt. He loved doing what he did. ![Frown](http://www.colonialfleets.com/forums/images/smilies/colonial-sad.gif)

Don't you like that? I actually thought that was a wonderful thing. Though the "Will you jump off a cliff" plot device was kinda forced.
But I liked it. And out of all the WEst Wing it seems the logical course.
And btw, I REALLY enjoyed this WEst Wing. Lately I thought alot of them were kinda meandering. But this was much more like the show I was used to. More wonderful dialog. Less forced cataclysmic events.

Btw does everyone recognize Mary McCormack? I realy liked her in Deep Impact. She was the female astronaut who remarked about them all going to have schools named after them.
OH, and I see they added Jimmy Smits to the opening credits.
And John SPencer is still there!!! (LEO)

I thought Josh or Toby would be better candidates for COS based on their roles in the series so far. Josh is such a smart alec-y jerk (which is why I identify with him the most) that it would be fun to see him struggle with rising to the next level. I also couldn't see it in real life. Can you picture Mike McCurry or Ari Fliescher as COS? It seems like too unnatuaral a shift. It's great to see more of Allison Janey, but the move sits with me funny.

I love that CJ got it I think that character is amazing and more than capable of handling the position, but then I'm a woman and that's the bias I bring to this perspective! ![wink](http://www.colonialfleets.com/forums/images/smilies/colonial-wink.gif)

It's definitely not a woman thing for me. I like the character and I like the actress, I guess I just like more gritty realism in my political soap operas. ![wink](http://www.colonialfleets.com/forums/images/smilies/colonial-wink.gif)

I love her! She was sooooo good at Ainsley. Dialogue with Sam was 1st rate. She's on CSI: Miami now.

I agree that it is unatural for a Whitehouse Spokesperson to suddenly leap and become Chief of Staff, one of the most powerful positions in the world.
I think though if you look at CJ's skills it makes more sense. She has a remarkable catlike ability to always land on her feet. Nomatter how often and how hard press reporters try to trick her into revealing something, she constanly is able to be in command. Outside of deference to Leo and POTUS she is always dominating whatever discussion she is in. She's very good at approaching people in a way to achieve her goals. Add to that her ability to know a situation and topic and and to always be on top of it. Add to that she is one of the most trusted, respected, and capable people in the White House.
Toby and Josh are both very gifted, but lets face it, they are screw ups! They are always getting into trouble. They have a unique talent for sticking their foot in their mouths, for loosing their cool, and landing in jail! Put them in charge and I'm sure within a month we will have launched a nuclear war with New Jersey!
