I Remember...
Okay folks!!! Here's your chance to show your age! Each post in this thread should start with "I remember..", and then list one or more things you remember from way back which the young'uns among us would probably poop their pants if they saw/had to do it nowadays.
I'll start...
I remember...watching the same stupid channel for days on end, regardless of what was on, simply because it was too hard to tune in another channel (and there were only 4 channels available anyway, 2, 4, 5 and 7).
To change channels, Dad would have to climb up on the roof and turn the antenna while we yelled directions to him out the door. The he would climb back down and spend 15 to 20 minutes twisting the blasted tuner knob to try to get rid of snow and ghosts. Ooh, and don't forget the ever present vertical hold knob to stop the picture from rolling!!!
What do you remember???

I remember actually going to a drive in movie. That was where you could set in a car and watch movies, and on the way home you could listen to a cool eight track! It was great!
Not many of them around any more. (drive in's that is)

I remember all the work and bother it was to make popcorn, oil in a kettle, heat it, add the kernals, shake the kettle so the pop corn doesn't burn, and then add the butter after it was dumped into a bowl.

I remember the day I got my dog when I was 7. I remember the day he died 14 years later...today.
In lighter news, I remember Bush's first year as president (I was 6 in 1988, and not even in the US, so that should count for somethin )
Yeah, I'm both old and young depending on who you ask...strange age to be at.

I remember when you didn't have seatbelts in cars, you could burn trash almost anywhere without 47 licences, sonic booms were fairly common, and one could say "Negro" and not be called unkind things.

I remember riding in my parent's car to a gas station. Within seconds, 2 uniformed attendants ran (not walked!) to our car. While one filled the tank the other checked the oil, water, and tire pressure, all without asking(!). No one had ever heard of "self-serve".
The high price for such service?
25 cents a gallon.

I remember the family up the street from my grandparents getting Pong, and thinking it was the coolest thing I had ever seen!

We had a "rotor" that sat on top of the TV and when you turned the dial, it moved the antenna (on top of the roof).
Our TV (like most others) had 4 posts or screws on the back, 2 for "VHF" channels and 2 for "UHF" channels. When you wanted to watch something on either set of channels, you had to squeeze this clip that was attached to the TV lead-in wire (that came down from the antenna) and attach it to the 2 screws for either VHF or UHF! (I think we had a total of, maybe, 6 or 7 channels that were clear enough to watch).

I remember when we had no Federally mandated gas mileage for cars, no Surgeon General's warning on tobacco, no school shootings, no international terrorism, Political Correctness did not exist, nobody cared what you were in school, you could cut down trees on your own property without a permit, gas was less than a quarter a gallon, and nothing in the grocery stores was labelled in metric!!!!!!!!
Guess I'm ancient, huh?

I remember sitting in the car in the high school parking lot
and waiting for my sister to be finished with BAND Practice.
I would sit in the car and watch all the drive in movies ....across the street...until in my sister's senior
year of high school that drive in was shut down.

I remember when it was safe for a 6 year old to walk to school alone, and you could leave your door unlocked. Wow, that's a long time ago!
P.S. I miss drive-ins too. Especially sitting on the roof and watching one with the distant echo of the sound. .

I remember that too. I also remember when it was SAFE
to let your neighbors MAKE the kid's halloween treats ......
and I remember not having to WORRY whether or not the
kid's candy was XRAYED or tested for 'chemicals'.

That's right shiningstar! Several of our neighbors used to make treats for us, like popcorn balls and (YUMMMM!) candy apples.
I'm so sad to see those days go.

I remember seeing commercials on tv for cigarettes.
I remember getting mom to buy single Ding-Dongs that were wrapped in foil...not vacuumed sealed in a child-proof mylar package. In fact, I can remember opening bottles of vitamins that didn't have half a dozen 'safety seals' on them.

I remember Ding dongs too, used to love thoes things. I also remember everthing being bigger and costing less when I was younger. Now I'm older it seems like you get less amd pay more. Just the other day at the grocery store I bought Fire cracker ice pops. In 1980 something I remember them being almost the size of my fore arm! Now they are the same size of a regular.
