Part 1
-Swiss (on rye bread with turkey or hot corned beef or in omelettes with sausage and tomatos)

Part 2
-No. In fact, I take a generous view of FX based on the time they were made in, which makes me even charitable to the FX of the Toho monster flicks of the 1960s. And likewise, "cheese" in a script must allow for the time the end product was made in before applying the epithet or else you can do that with a ton of classic Trek scripts (like for instance Kirk going into his "my son the doctor" bit at the end of "The Changeling")

Part 3
-I'm one of those who believes that now that the Curse of the Bambino is over in baseball (unfortunately) they should now start talking about the curse of Joe Willie Namath based on the chronic ineptitude of the New York Jets ever since SB III!

Part 4
-To me, a show only gets that epithet if it shows a deliberate attempt to be silly/comedic amidst what should be a more serious style premise. Thus, one can say an individual episode of Galactica like "Magnificent Warriors" has its cheesy moments, as do almost all Lost In Space episodes after the first six, or a chunk of Trek ones. But a show must be judged first on the premise it establishes, and its potential for greatness if applied right and if "cheesiness" ever erupts it's the fault of execution.

Part 5
- Any chance for some please?

Thumbs up

Part One-

What's your favorite type of cheese?

Most of them. Cheddar, brie, all the blues from all over the world, swiss (Ementhaler is #1), gruyere, white cheddar, mozzarella, jack, pepper jack, edam, cojilla, cream, gouda, boursin (or rondele'), feta, parmesano regianno, romano, smoked (cheddar is fantastic smoked), havarti, fontina, cottage, ricotta - do I need to go on?

Not fond of goat cheese, though.

----------------
Part Two-

For anyone that thinks osBG's FX were "cheesy", do you also think Star Wars FX were cheesy? Or Star Trek- TMP?

Many of the same folks did the FX for all three.

Like Eric, I view the FX through the lens of the time it was produced. In 1978, osBSG's effects were whiz-bang, state of the art.

---------------
Part Three-

How many "cheesehead" Packer fans are here?

Ever since Bart Starr was quarterback....

(Does that date me? )

--------------
Part Four-

Just *what* makes a show "cheesy" for ya?

Over-the-top smarminess. Hystrionics. You know, hamming it up, either in acting or dialogue.

-------------
Part Five-

Answer any of those you want.

The prize: One of the chef's here will give you a cookie!

I like cookies.

I like cheesecake, too - Mrs. Dawg makes a mean chocolate cheesecake.

Part One-

What's your favorite type of cheese?

Almost any cheese is a good cheese in my book! Cheese, cottage cheese, cream cheese, string cheese...

----------------
Part Two-

For anyone that thinks osBG's FX were "cheesy", do you also think Star Wars FX were cheesy? Or Star Trek- TMP?

I never had too many problems with BSGs effects except for the shot of Vipers rising from behind a hill...

As for Star Wars, there are some fighter crashes on the Death Star that look like they were shot in George's backyard.

TMP - There were some shots in the original release that I didn't like, but with the digitally restored version - I think its perfect!

---------------
Part Three-

How many "cheesehead" Packer fans are here?

Not me - I know nothing about the Packers (other than they are a football team), sorry, american sport just isn't my thing...

--------------
Part Four-

Just *what* makes a show "cheesy" for ya?

For me, it would be very low production values and wonky SFX photography

-------------
Part Five-

Answer any of those you want.

The prize: One of the chef's here will give you a cookie!

I've got a great recipe for a pumpkin cheescake that's to die for! Hell, I'll eat any kind of cheescake!

1) All cheese good, though dry and sharp I favor. I'll probably try making it someday.

2)The effects were state of the art at the time it was made. I think a lot of the younger generation's reason for terming the original "cheesy" have to do with the writing and segments of the acting.

3)Not a big Packers fan. i think those hats look silly, but that can be said of most hats.
(Don't worry EP, the Jets will have a stellar season. JMac will move to flank rcvr under his old OC, and will have a record year.)

4) I was looking to do a post on the origin and meaning of some of these terms.
Hokey and Hammy turn up from actor's cant. I have not nailed down where the "cheese" factor comes from yet. To me it conjures up fake happiness, artificial wholesomeness. An obvious pose rather than genuine emotion.

Part One-
What's your favorite type of cheese?

Mungabareena: a friend of mine makes it. It is a surface ripened cheese that smells like old socks and gum leaves, puddles in a heap when let out of the rind, but tastes like heaven with a sesame cracker
Makes a excellent if sparing flavour agent for salad dressing, hot sauce or savory shortbread, but don't leave it unwrapped (triple wrapped..) in the fridge, or it will put your milk off through a sealed carton!

----------------
Part Two- For anyone that thinks osBG's FX were "cheesy", do you also think Star Wars FX were cheesy? Or Star Trek- TMP?

Not applicable: I saw them all as first release cinema, so I can still remember the WOW factor, so I have an emotional does of nostalgia linked to the WOW factor

---------------
Part Three-How many "cheesehead" Packer fans are here?

Not applicable. Like, who???

--------------
Part Four-Just *what* makes a show "cheesy" for ya?

Its usually the script formula and the soundtrack. All 70's shows had to have a little laugh at the end, and the soundtrack told you EXACTLY what emotion you had to be having in a scene. Refined cheese is a 70's plaid suit... a bit like the mungabareena: it flavours everytring around it

-------------
Part Five- Who has MADE (real) cheese ?

I have. When I was a student, we got to use a pilot scale plant and make lots of neat dairy products, including cheddar, mozzarella, camebert and quarg/ricotta. Some of it was even edible.

Cheers, (or is that cheese??)

Battlestar Galactica 1978

I'll take a shot at this:

1. Like DM I like a good dry, sharp cheese.

2. The FX for all three shows didn't bother me one bit and still don't. I guess that it is because I know that computer generated graphics just wasn't there yet.

3. Nope

4. One part is bad FX, but let me clarify it. If a movie is being made now with a budget of $100 million and they use FX from 1910 for a sci-fi movie then yes, it's cheesy, unless its on purpose. I think you have to take into account the time of the show, what they were trying to do, and what the result was. I find very few shows 'cheesy'.

I'm finding it weird to have a hometown team that can win (Colts) it's a culture shock from the "how creatively can we lose this week?" pre-Marvin Lewis Bengals.

Mork & Mindy, Happy Days, Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew, and most modern sitcoms have a cheese factor to them. Kirks' alien girl of the week was cheesy, I suppose. I think when things are overdone to the point of sillyness, funny things taken seriously.

I've seen the word bandied about so much that it's essentially lost all meaning to me, especially in light of TOS BG.

What's cheesy about them, they're all great! Innovative and effective. I could mention some other cheese though........?

Oversentimental touchy-feeliness that seems out of place (bleugh!). A fine line that most shows (hopefully) don't stray across.

I certainly don’t think Galactica’s FX were cheesy, but I don’t think they are on par with Star Wars or TMP. But for a television show, they were the best anyone had ever done. Regardless of comparison to today’s standards, they were cutting edge at the time.

Dressing a monkey up as a robotic dog. That’s just insulting to monkeys. Not to mention robotic dogs.
Cheese is fine, cheese is fun. As long as the makers are doing it on purpose, then we can all enjoy it for what it was meant to be. Like the musical number at the casino on Carillon. It’s bad when they don’t realize that something is cheesy. Like Dennis Hopper in Waterworld, or John Travolta in Battlefield Earth.

Okay, for the benefit of those who need a lesson in American culture.

The Green Bay Packers (situated in Northern Wisconsin) is one of the most historic franchises in American football, and as Wisconsin is the land where cheese is produced in abundance, fans of the Packers take to wearing large cheese shaped hats at the games hence the term "Cheeseheads" for the die-hard Packer fans.

I guess their uniforms turned green because they ate too much cheese.

Anything that has some heat...pepperjack with actual hunks of jalepeno, american cheese with horsereadish, etc. I am also excessively fond of extremely sharp cheddar...

----------------
Part Two-

For anyone that thinks osBG's FX were "cheesy", do you also think Star Wars FX were cheesy? Or Star Trek- TMP?

If I were to compare them to today's effects, maybe...but at the time, I thought they were amazing. And I still love them.

---------------
Part Three-

How many "cheesehead" Packer fans are here?

Not so much...

--------------
Part Four-

Just *what* makes a show "cheesy" for ya?

Cliched dialogue just kills me. And when they're obviously going for that Hallmark moment, I usually want to hurl...

-------------
Part Five-

Answer any of those you want.

The prize: One of the chef's here will give you a cookie!

Cookie! And just to really freak people out, has anyone seen that Cookie Monster is going to be promoting healthy eating? Cookies will only be for sometimes now...While logically I think it's a great idea, I'm sad for Cookie Monster. It just seems wrong, somehow...

This antipodean thanks you for the lesson, Eric,

Cheese shaped hats at a game?
Interesting.

They must be a tough bunch

Gee, its seems like I am the only "cheesehead" here. I am a true dyed in the wool, born and breed fan. I love being the odd ball! Try being a "cheesehead" in New England Patriots country after we whipped them in the Super Bowl in the late '90s. Man that was rough! Funny thing is I am married to a Pats fan! Boy, what a fight that will be in my house if they ever meet in the Super Bowl again!
