As many of you know, my spouse and relatives went to Central America recently for my mother-in-law's funeral. The sad time was helped much by them being able to see so many friends and relatives after so many years.
On a brighter note, they brought back some stuff which is really amazing. Beautiful pottery for only $2 each. And really amazing, a painting which here would easily fetch four or five hundred dollars, exceptionally well done in a familiar style - only $20! It's a small painting, perhaps 10 x 12, however even the large ones (48 x 48) are an unbelievable $50! An enterprising person with access to a gallery would probably do quite well if they imported these.
But food - hah, how much do you pay here for lobster tail? $25 a pop? More? There, you can go to a plush outdoor restaurant and receive /3/ very large lobster tails, cooked to order, for only $12 all! It's so funny, lobster, crab and shrimp are extremely cheap, but /chicken/ is a delicacy and costs as much as our lobster! How odd!
I guess it's the old adage, if only there were a way to move the cold from the Arctic to the heat of the desert, and vice versa, what a neat world this would be...
