Default "Lee" Apollo? "William" Adama? What the hell?

Excuse my vulgarity, but since when is Apollo's first name Lee and Adama's William? I don't recall those at all in TOS so is this just a "new" thing for the series and/or the mini thingy in '03? Sorry for any ignorance, I'm recently getting back into BSG so this may be an old question for all I know. Thanks guys and gals!

Dear Pheonix,

You are indeed correct that these first names are from the 'mini thingy' They were not part of the Original Series, and are one of the things that some people are not happy about when the consider Ron Moore's take on Galactica...

But we do have fans here who like the mini, so we must be careful not to cause them offense...

You may not have got to the part were we see a female Starbuck and Boomer !!!! You will notice many differences between TOS and the 'mini thingy' !!!!!!!!!!!!

yup. The old names we loved are now their "callsigns". William "Husker" Adama. Kara "starbuck" thrace. Lee "apollo" Adama. etc.

btw- that brings me to ask, was Tyrol and Zack a callsign?

The mini is loosely based on the original. Depending on your opinion the word "loosely" either means "similiar" or "in no way remotely related".

In the mini words like "Apollo", "Boomer", and "Starbuck" are military pilot call signs not proper names. Depending on your view of the mini the characters are not related or the following relationships may exist:

William Adama = Adama
Colnel Tigh = Colonel Tigh
Lee Adama = Apollo
Gaius Baltar = Baltar
Boxey = Boxey
Mini CIC officer (forgot his name for the moment) = Omega

Once you get beyond these six there are no direct character to character comparisons unless you go with the speculation that some of the remaining mini characters are based on later TOS characters but have their names changed. Although this may be reaching you can speculate the following loosely based character relationships:

Kara Thrace (mini "Starbuck") = Sheba
Mini Boomer = Athena
CPO Tyrol = Starbuck
Calley = Cassiopeia
Cylon 6 = Lucifer
Duella = Rigel
President Roslin = Siress Tinia

I suggest you watch the mini if you get a chance when it comes out again. You may be appalled by what you see or you may be happy to find your old friend flying again. You will find we have friends on all sides of this show.

He is the one. Thank you.

Those of you looking positively toward the mini may consider this a positive developement characterwise.

Both Lieutenant Gaeta and Duella have more lines in the mini then Omega and Rigel had in all of TOS. I don't know however if either character was picked up for the new series.

THey're from the MINI ..........Not from TOS.

It's OK Phoenix .........I felt that way too when I first found out about
the 'reimagining' of BSG. I just stick to TOS and let everyone else stick
to what they like.

You'll find both MINI and TOS fans here ........so Enjoy.
