Well Anime fans...
I've stumbled upon yet another anime series that didn't disappoint!
RahXephon!
I saw it in Suncoast and Blockbuster, but it was only the movie. I went on Netflix and found an entire series for rental. I rented the first disk (out of 7) and watched the first five episodes. Here's the basic plot synopsis:
The year is 2015, and most of the Earth's population has been wiped out in a brutal war. High schooler Ayato Kamina meets a girl named Reika Mishima, who takes him to a secret sanctuary that's a temporary home to the war's civilian survivors. There, a humanoid mechanical weapon emerges from a black egg bearing a mark similar to one Ayato has on his body. And, as it turns out, only the young teenager can pilot this new weapon.
Everything is working in this series! The sound, the music, the artwork, the character design... everything! The story is so unusual - I don't know where the Japanese keep coming up with these apocolyptic techno thrillers....! Wherever they get these stories, they can keep 'em coming! I can't wait to rent the other 7 disks and the movie now.
Yes, I know....it seems like I like every anime series he watches! To be quite honest, I don't watch all that many as I find only a few engaging enough to watch. I guess that I've been lucky as recently I've either stumbled upon something that grabs me, or had someone recommend a show that I wind up liking.
If you haven't seen RahXephon - check it out! Here's a preview trailer from Netflix.com:
