It never really did make sense to me why they wanted to buy a series on its way out anyway.... The money would have been better spent on somthing else!

from ign:
Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda was recently part of a large sale to the U.S. Sci-Fi Channel which added the series to its Friday night lineup several weeks ago.* A deal for the next season to air exclusively on Sci-Fi may save that series from extinction but the possibility is remote at best.* According to a number of industry insiders, Sci-Fi Channel would not have the money required to take up the slack from losing Fireworks as a co-production partner.*
|
From what I understand at a very layperson level: TV production companies put most of the development money into a series, in that they cost more to make than a network will initially pay to air them. The producers do it on the risk that they will get enough episodes to make a good syndication package (100 eps is the "magic" number). The producers make their money back and profit mostly on syndication.
Skiffy was essentially replacing Tribune which had previously partnered with these producers, so that's where Skiffy could have bought something that is now worthless. Chances are they are contractually covered somehow so that it minimizes their expense. Otherwise Tribune pulled out at the right time and Skiffy got stuck.

Yikes
Just when the series gets interesting. I knew once Adam wasn't a regular this would happen.

Victoria Pratt.
It seems strange that they would cancel the show since she was nominated for a Saturn Award for her performance as Shalimar Fox.

NOOOOOO NOT ANDROMEDA........
Even though it is hokey, I really enjoy watching the show! Harper is great and the crew of the Andromeda just somehow works.
I loved season one and two, then it hit a slump. And now just when it is starting to get better.........it might get the axe!
If this does happen I hope they get a chance to tie up all loose ends before the final show

or worse yet... just after being dumped by Priceline, Ron Moore hires William Shatner to be the NEW captain of the Andromeda! And Andromeda will now be played by Shatner's TF Hooker costar, HEATHER THOMAS!
(I do hope I got the right actress. I always get her name confused with the girl from Fall Guy!)
But seriously, don't lose hope Andromeda fans! The production company going bankrupt is not the end of the world. And SOMEONE with a bit of cash, may be able to make a sweet deal! So all is not lost. Not yet.
So lets just have fun and try to think of the absolute WORST way SCIFI can save the show!

Tom,
Heather Thomas was on "The Fall Guy" with Lee Majors while Heather Locklear played the cute young police officer on "T.J. Hooker" with Shatner.
I understand your confusion, though. Heather Thomas did play a guest role on "T.J. Hooker," while Heather Locklear did two guest spots on "The Fall Guy" as different characters.
I'm sorry for all of its fans to hear that Andromeda may have been cancelled, but I've never been able to get into it. As for the worst way, the ship goes through a gigantic nebular storm in space. As it is hit by multiple ionic blasts, a console explodes, enveloping Kevin Sorbo's character in a purple cloud of gas. As he rises moments later, shirt half burned off, hair instantly grown longer, he realizes that he is secretly Hercules imprisoned in the distant future by a venegeful Aires!

kdalton,
Thanks! I've got a good memory, but www.imdb.com serves as a really useful backup system when you think you remember something but aren't quite sure. In this case, I remembered HL doing one guest spot on "The Fall Guy" but it showed the second one as well. Of course, it really helps in this case that at the time I had "Hollywood crushes" on both these ladies!

Gee, they already did that on "The Practice". Shat did a good job (on an increasingly awful show, IMHO). Can't stand the character that replaced Dylan McDermott's Bobby.

I never watched the pratice until James Spader was hired on. I love him, this role was one of the best I have seen him do. Although I loved him as Daniel Jackson in the movie Stargate.

I will miss Mutant X. The two leading ladies were HOT!!!!!!! Andromeda looked like a joke. I watched the first two seasons and was shocked when they got rid of Rev Bem (Brent Stait almost died I believe from the makeup). On top of that I heard Keith Hamilton Cobb left the show because his character was written into stupidity.

James Spader brought new life back to the Practice. This is the Practice's last year, but a spin-off has been arranged with James Spader as the lead and William Shatner in a recurring guest role. Anyone who saw Shatner on The Practice will know that we are in for a wonderful comedic role from a man we all thought had been reduced to schmaltzy Priceline.com commercilals! Of course, he's still a little schmaltzy, but it wouldn't Shatner without that!
So there is always hope for your shows, sometimes the wait is just a little longer (go CFF! Hooooo-rah!).

A recent post appeared on the andromedatv.com site.
Check it out:
http://www.andromedatv.com/features/...new-scifi.html
Does this mean Sci-Fi will be carrying Season 5 of Andromeda?
That is the question.
Personally, I have been enjoying the last half of Season 4 on the Sci-Fi Channel & am hoping for a Season 5.
Will continue to post news as I find it,

That post links to a 15JAN04 scifiwire article, so it is outdated news, at least in terms of the collapse of the production company.

I went to the Andromeda forum board and there was this link VC production start dates. Only problem is the list is dated April 29th. It show Andromeda having a start date on May 17th. So we will know is about a week if they show up for work.

Thanks nccdee.
Darth- I did know that the andromeda site did post an outdated sci-fi wire article, but this was still a recent news posting meriting coverage.
And with nccdee's info, we should know something shortly.
Hopefully it will be good news for the cast & crew of Andromeda!

I did not mean to sound critical of your interest in the topic Jim.
It just seemed that the item you referred to was posted prior to the most recent news.
