Default Speak your mind...

....be civil and discuss everything pertaining to Galactica.

Just don't forget "why" the mini is here.

The Why:

Yes there is a reason for the mini existing. Sci fi had to do something with the property. They re made it. Larson was given some credit for any references to tos. Moore rewrote it. Ships were changed and so on. However this is a GOOD thing for it doesn't step on the toes of our beloved show. I have stated this a number of times. The mini can exist and so can our show.

The GRAND SCHEME:

Larson holds the movie rights to the BG/BP universe and a movie can be made. In other words YES there is hope if we take the time to see the forest for the trees.

I prefer the original. I think that if the mini hadn't been so very violent and
stepped on so much of the original story line ......... then maybe ........just maybe.......
I might have been willing to give it a chance. With the way it was made .................
I just didn't like it. Not then ...... and .......... not now.

I think its more than that. Larson shelled out a small fortune for the rights. So he HAS to make it! Otherwise he will be losing too much money. If he wants to sell these rights, then I would get worried.

I think it will happen. But they are going to make us wait a few years until more cogs fall into place. Until then, having good name recognition would be good for us all.

awwww... thank you.

I think the future of BG is pretty good. It just is going to move a little too slow for our tastes. But it will happen. We should just be patient and party until we hear the announcement of a new movie.

To me Battlestar Galactica is humanity at their finest, fighting to surive against all odds. It showed outstanding morals and values, had a sense of family, and how people can unite despite their differences. The endearing characters and the mythology drew the viewer in and you felt as if you were part of their struggle.
The Galactica was, and still is, an impressive ship! The battles in space and the Vipers were amazing for its time.
I'm not blind to the flaws of TOS, I just remember it with great fondness. To me there was never a conclusion the show. I know that is one reason why I am praying for a continuation movie. To see what happens next! Also, to see how the characters I fell in love with so long ago have grown and advanced with the passing of so much time.
I know it has been said before, but this is truly a SLEEPING GIANT! So much potiental just wating to be brought to life with modern technology.
This mini would not be here if not for Larson's original work. It is a re-telling of a clasic!Though I think the mini is an empty shell of TOS, I'll give it credit for bringing in new viewers and introducing them to a whole spectrum of Galactica.( A show that they may have never relized existed before).

Thanks Muffit! I think I was having a heartfelt moment!

I think Fleets can be like this too. A place where all can gather despite our differences. To unite this fandom in to a strong voice for Galactica.

Amberstar, I think you have given me a reason to respect the mini. I never thought of that perspective. As much as some of us may not like it, the mini did introduce Galactica to others, perhaps even to a new generation. Many of the people who saw the mini did not know very much about TOS.

That's a good sign.

StrayViper thank you, and it is so good to see you again!

Don you had to bring up Starbuck, that is one thing I just couldn't stomach. Boomer and Starbuck will always be Herb and Dirk for me.

Default Me too...

If not for the hype surrounding the mini, I never would have "lurked" on over here to the fleets and found out about all the efforts the fans are putting into getting one of my favorite childhood shows back to the big screen. I never knew the fan base was still this strong after 25 years! I just hope something is produced that I can share w/ my son. ( I am getting pretty tired of watching The Wiggles :P )

Just willing to help out anyway I am able.

OK, I'm going to. Speak my mind, that is. (As if you could have stopped me )

I like the forum upgrade. It's easier to read, easier to navigate. Good job (as usual), Tom.

Props to Don for deciding to take a more hands-on approach to CF. With his history and knowledge, CF will AGAIN become one of the leading BSG sites on the web. (If we say this enough, he won't be able to close it down again, right?)

Everyone knows how I stand on BSG. But I have come to realize that there are a great many people who have come to BSG fan sites because of the mini, who either remember fondly or are coming to appreciate TOS - and who will support the effort to bring a TOS continuation to the big screen. Because of this realization, I no longer hold any ill will towards those people who came forward and expressed how much they enjoyed the mini. I no longer disbelieve those who say they loved TOS but also enjoyed the mini.

Obviously, I can't speak for CF - I only post here, like everyone else - but I believe that regardless of your stance on the mini or any series that it may spawn if you ALSO support TOS and the effort for a continuation movie, and if you treat the people here with respect, you won't find any problems with any of the people who run this site. Or with me. Treat TOS and the people here disrespectfully, you'll have problems.

Don, Tom, correct me if I'm wrong here.

If you hated TOS, though, I hear Dennis runs a great board over at Subspace that is a pro-mini board.

So, I hope - and trust - CF will stay open permanently.

That's all I have to say. For now.

I am

I've only been on this site for a month or so. I've loved TOS since I was 9 and it first came out. I enjoyed the Moore Mini, but am not that excited about it a full episodic series. Even so, it was cool to find this site, one that made room for those who liked the mini.

I must say, I've really enjoyed my short time here. The people are caring and genuine. Civility is strong here. Cool features here on CF, such as the Cafe and the Episodic Reviews are awesome! I've only been participating on BG message boards for a couple of months. I had no idea there was such division among BG fans. It makes little sense to me. Like or dislike the Mini, BG fans should stick together. Naive, I know. I apologize for my ignorance.

Oh well, now I know that if I want friendly BG discussions, I'll come here as long as it still exists or BG Club. If I want to engage in a flame-war complete with sophomoric name calling, I'll go to Cylon whatever-it-is or go talk sports on football boards. (Yes, I am trying to shame those BG fans who engage in these activities by comparing them with the jockocracy and frat-boy mentally that exists on boards of a different topic than BG).

I can certainly undertsand if CF goes away, Tom and Don. No one should have to endure the garbage you've been put through. If it stays, I'll enjoy it again. If it must go, I'll miss it and wish you all well. If you're footing the bill for this thing, make it anything you want it to be and moderate and regulate it as you see fit. I haven't had any problems with anything you've done. Whether it's "Keep up the good work" or
"So long, farewell and God Bless," thanks for CF!
