Default Bryan Singer's BSG Revival metioned in EW.

This week’s issue of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY featured a few page article about Bryan Singer and sure enough Battlestar Galactica was mentioned.

“Singer was brought back on board (in reference to signing on to X2) after being promised a 25 million budget increase and a more luxurious schedule.

And then nothing happened, For a year Singer planned on to make Confessions of a Dangerous Mind with Georg Clooney and yadda yadda yadda bla bla bla.

He then planned to executive produce and direct a TV revival of Battlestar Galactica. But by late 2001 Fox has done the near imposible and synchronized the busy schedules of it’s leads: no small feet, considering Hugh Jackman (an obscure Australian actor when he was cast as knifed knuckled Wolverine) had become a legitimate star. McKellen had got an Oscar nod for his role in Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the Ring, and Hale Berry was about to heave the Oscar Sob Heard Round the World. In other words, this was a rare and narrow window, so Singer turned back his attention to combing through decades of comic book plotliness with Zak Penn (Behind Enemy Lines) and X-Men co screenwriter David Hayter.”

Later on in the article it stated that fight that was reported in the New York Post:

“Singer was incapacitated by some sort of medication, which led to a brouhaha with executive with exec producer DeSanto (whos primary function on X2 was safe-gaurding the comic’s lore) The cast and crew sided with DeSanto and threatened a walk out and Berry instructed Singer to “kiss my black ass.”

Later on in the article both Singer and Berry stated that those reports were greatly exaggerated.

I am a little bit upset that the article did not mention that Singer left BSG because FOX kept throwing him more money to concentrate fully on X2. Also it did not metioned that he wanted to return to BSG after his X2 duties were over.

I was also disappointed that article failed to mention that X2’s script and overall preproduction was in chaos until Tom DeSanto rejoined the X2 production.

Anyway Congradulations to Bryan and Tom:

The early results are in and X-MEN 2 took in an estimated $85.9 million dollars during its opening weekend in North America, claiming top spot in the box office running. X2 also earned a very healthy $69.3 M in international markets.
The $85.9 M opening is the fourth largest gross for a movie ever, surpassed only by SPIDER-MAN and the two HARRY POTTER films. Coming in second place was THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE with $17 million followed by IDENTITY with $9.5 M.

MI2 Gimme a break! and Star Trek:Generations hah!

X2 beat out every Star Wars movie-opening weekend that is no small accomplishment.

Thumbs up Thats very interesting!

Thanks Scooter2000 for the update. Its been along time since i brought a EW magazine but now with X-Men 2 mopping up the competition getting the 85.5 million along with Singers woes behind him, i look forward to reading the EW article in full this week.

This is very interesting now that once again Singer/DeSanto and co are players again and have proven to the studios of their abilities in their chosen fields.

KJ

P.S. Got an X-Men 2 poster since Saturday. i'm gonna frame it first before putting it up. Then i'm gonna see X2 again this week.

Who's to say he won't? Maybe there'll be a miracle within Universal and they will let Singer/DeSanto do their continuation, in light of the box office and popularity of the "X-Men" films. All of them can't be blind to the fact that this re-imagination isn't going over too well with the BG fanbase. It is the inspiration from the fans and the source material that allowed these two men to turn "X-Men" into the huge franchise that it is now.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if DeSanto could do the same thing to Hammer that she did to him? Pull the rug out right from underneath her and MooreRon...that would wipe that smirky smile off of both their faces.

Remember Bonnie, Ronnie and Davie had publically stated that they are not targeting the Battlestar Galactica fans for their viewers.

Jason I didn't know that EW was published in the UK.

To think I visited London a few years ago.

Has anyone thought to send a letter to EW about that?

I was planning on sending a note to most of the major magazines - just to let them know that a whole buncha BG fans do NOT support this fiasco that's called a reimagining. I don't want some bozo who calls themself a BG fan writing in and saying that 'all of the BG fans support the new reimaging' cause it just isn't true. (And I CAN see some of those doofuses doing that)

I'll have to go home and find my copy of this weeks ET Weekly - I know I get it - just haven't seen it. (Which could mean my brother got to it first and HID IT! THE RAT!) lol.

BTW - I would highly recommend, in your course of letting-writing, hit the major entertainment magazines (People, US, TVGuide, Starlog, ET Weekly, etc, etc, etc). Let THEM know too that we aren't supporting this fiasco of a show.

Welcome to the fleet LadyImmmortal. I think I remember you from Nate's BSGClub forum.

Anyway we discussed this option within the Council of 12 and decided to be extra careful about using the media. (especially the mainstream media).

We do not want to give Moore, Eicke and their hijacking fans the free publicity. Even negative publicity could backfire.

Fear not we have some good plans in the works and in due time everyone will be let in on it.

You have my word as a warrior.

Yep especially in shops in London's West End and big name epsecialist shops like Tower Records, HMV, Virgins.

i've now got the magazine and intend on reading it this week (Hey i'm still reading half a dozen other mags?) It should be noted the article is more on Singer's X-men 2 work. BG just gets mentioned once.
