I know how you feel Titon For a couple years I worked graveyard, and it was okay except for the drive home. I never used to drink coffee. Till one day I woke up mere feet from an overpass pillar going 60 miles an hour. Barely missed wrapping myself around it. (Two of my coworkers weren't so lucky - both died on the way home).
From that day I learned to drink a cup just before driving home. Helped a lot. Never kept me awake when I tried to sleep either. Also it turned out I could do a lot more socializing by the coffee machine which was really nice.

Amen to that. However, at least you don't have my Fridays. I go to work for 7:00 AM and work until 3:00 and then I drive 6 miles to my house, let the dogs out, let the dogs in, drive 30 miles to my part-time job, work from 4:00 PM till midnight, drive 30 miles back home, let the dogs out, let the dogs in and collapse into bed!

Wow UWW, that's quite a workload! Hope things can get better for you!
And Thomas, didn't know you had a rough schedule like that too.
I did have one job that was pretty rough. They were really short handed when they hired me. The other 2 I worked with had been working 12 hour days back to back with no days off for 6 months. I thought that would all get better when I started, but instead I got put in the loop of 12 (or more) hours a day for months and months with no days off (one of the others left when I started). Worse than that, the shift that came in when I was done (who was also my lead) asked me nearly every day to stay another 4 hours to help out - a whopping 15-16 hours a day!
The good part was the paycheck - eeks, I made nearly double my actual salary. Also the people were incredibly nice and that makes all the difference when you work hours like that.
After about 3 months everything got better. In fact, it was the best schedule I've ever had - 4 days off every week (4/4)! Would've been great if I had something to do on the days off...

Actually, I gave up my high-powered 80 hour a week job in Boston so I could move back home and be there for my family a little more often. The extra shift on Friday stinks, but it makes ends meet and isn't nearly as stressful as my old job was. Most of the time it's been worth taking about a 50% cut in pay. I do miss buying high tech toys, though!
