GalactiCon? Never been, but I hear it's pretty big and likely someplace you can get indie SF films screened.

For folks general information- I do believe the GalactiCon Jeff mentions is NOT the Battlestar Galactica "Galacticon" many of us went to in 2003.

Rather, there is an OLDER, Star Trek Klingon styled GalactiCon. I think he refers to that one.

Heart

I'd like to go to any of the conventions, but nothing like this is ever held in a location anywhere near Arkansas! The closest "big" city to us is Memphis, TN (2.5 hours drive). Next would probably be Dallas (6 hours), TX and then St. Louis, MO (9 hours). Maybe someday!

Ones to check (don't know, haven't been) Marcon in Columbus OH usually Memorial Day weekend; Gencon Indy (heavy gamer con, so not as likely) August, Indianapolis.

17,

I can't say with certainty which cons for sure show independent films, but for what it's worth, here's the cons I know about.

Marcon (May 26-28 2006) has had Richard Hatch attend almost every year, for the last so many years. Except for last year, and Anne Lockhart filled in. I don't know if they show fanfilms, but they do show movies, and Richard has shown his trailer here.

In terms of size, Creation puts on the biggest scifi conventions. Most of them are Star Trek, Stargate, etc. themed. A possibility is the Battlestar Galactica con August 26-27, but it is themed for the series that must not be named on this site. But you can email them.

Detroit Motor City Con has had Dirk Benedict appearing frequently. Anne and Herb have appeared. Again, I dunno about fan films.

The big Star Wars Celebration con they have been having in Indianapolis every year. Don't know if they'd be happy showing a BSG film there or not.

Another is Starfest, which Julix was at one time involved with in Denver. I bet she'd know about fanfilms.

There is Chiller Theatre in New Jersey (January 2006), which bills itself as a Toy, Model, and Film expo. Noah and Dirk were scheduled for the last one. They had over 100 celebrities at their last convention.

Anyway, I don't know if this helps any or if I am just rambling.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike big help, the links will usually have a contact tab so I can ask questions. Chiller Theatre may wok best being in January and my home area. Thank you all for chiming in. I’d like my fan film to have a nice live screening premiere

I don't know for sure but one of the big cons is the San Diego Comic Con held in August...

Question Louisville, KY

I heard there will be a convention in Louisville, KY coming up soon. Does anybody know what is called and what the dates are? Comic Con was great but we ran into some problems caused by our last-minute planning! We won't do that again. (We even went one night without a hotel... not very fun at all... Actually it wasn't so bad until we saw somebody get robbed, then we got kind of scared.) We found a place open for pizza and stayed there for hours, and also sat in the lobby of a Holiday Inn for more hours! I called a friend and he got on priceline and got us a room for the next night, which happened to be at the same Holiday Inn where we'd been sitting. With Michael's persuasion, we got to check in early at around 10:00 AM. If we are going to Louisville, I want to set it all up NOW.

By the way, is anyone else going to the convention in Louisville?

Terri

WC,

This is the only con I know that's scheduled for Louisville:
http://www.conglomeration.org/

There is also one scheduled for Lexington:
http://www.botcon.com/

Are you looking for specific types of cons in certain locations? If I had more info I could help better. Send me a pm.

Thanks,
Mike
