Default An Invitation.

If the Larson camp is out there, we are here. We are ready. The Yahrens have been too long overdue for BG to return. Anyone with me on this one?

My impression from the lecture Larson gave is that he REEEAALLY wants to see what effect the Moore production finally has on his show. And that won't happen until BG04 is decided. If after the BG04 production is cancelled for good, that the market for BG1 may dry up. Or After BG04 becomes a hit, the market may be ripe for BG1 to return.

But I think his questions about BG1's profitability aren't answered yet for him. And won't be this year. But I think it WILL happen in a year or two, outside three.

Would the decision be made entirely on whether or not BG04 becomes reality?
What about the DVD sales? Wouldn't they be considered as well?

I think it would have to be part of the equation. Along with buzz, whether sci-fi movies are hot (or at least luke-warm), what the studio prez had for breakfast and if he's fighting with his wife and/or girlfriend......

As simple as it seems to us, though, Hollywood seems to work in ways that defy logic. Right now they're remaking (and trashing, in many cases) forumulas that worked years ago on TV - Charlies' Angels, Transformers, Starsky & Hutch, Hulk, etc. (not to say any of those trashed or will trash the original concepts) - perhaps TOS BSG's (BG1?) turn will come, too, and soon.

Keeping my fingers crossed, of course.

Glen larson repeated several times, that the success or failure of the miniseries doesn't matter in brining the old series back.

Yes... for him it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is if he thinks he can fill seats in a movie theater if he makes the movie. That is the ONLY criteria.

We tend to see things as relating to each other in terms of story conflicts. "The new story cancels out the old" is how we see it. That is NOT how they see it. All they care about is how many movie tickets will it sell. That is it. And we have to reduce ourselves to that kind of thinking to understand them.

I think if he and DeSanto are even slightly on the same wavelength: what matters is interest in the mini doesn't satiate or fullfill the interest the continuation had. What mattered is that the interest in the original series stayed strong [or grew--adding that because i think that we have seen a minor sample of new people discovering the original after the mini].

Larson's comments were stated when there was only region 1 dvd set releases announced for the Box Set. There have since been Region 2 and 4 releases with a second release of Region 1. Originally they were only going to do 100,000 limited edition. Amazon's 1st day preorder sales changed THAT real fast. With a holiday weekend in there even.

I think the G03 future series is a complication in how to handle the movie possibly being simultaneously running with an ongoing series. I think it's more a marketing stall, as it will be a little tricky to advetise and keep it clear for the general public.

I still think we are looking at 2005 or 2006 (groan) for a movie release.
