5. Action Alerts: For All Battlestar Galactica Fans

Post Office Mail the Universal Entertainment Group

PRESS RELEASE: "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (4-hour miniseries) - SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking and beloved series in which 'a rag, tag fugitive fleet' of the last remnants of mankind searches for its true home. Fleeing the aliens responsible for the slaughter of their homeworld, the Battlestar Galactica survivors must meet a whole new set of challenges. This intriguing twist on a classic will be written by writer Ronald D. Moore (Roswell, Mission Impossible II) with Breck Eisner (Steven Spielberg's Taken; The Invisible Man) attached to direct. Distributed by USA Cable Entertainment, the Project will be executive produced by David Eick (American Gothic, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Spy Game)." The new miniseries is a re-imagining, and not a continuation, of the original Battlestar Galactica series, and may not include the original cast, characters, and themes! Send a post office mail to the Universal Entertainment Group! For more information, visit our Battlestar Galactica revival information page.

Boycott Commercial Advertisers of the Sci-Fi Channel

A brand-new web site has launched to support a boycott of commercial advertisers on the Sci-Fi Channel (and Vivendi-Universal, USA Networks/Studios USA). Fans are encouraged to visit the new site, and boycott any sponsor of the "Battlestar Galactica" re-imagining mini-series scheduled for the Sci-Fi Channel in 2003. The boycott site includes a link to the new Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Advertiser Boycott Petition (which we've also included in the list of primary petitions, below.) Also, the site features an extensive list of current advertisers on the Sci-Fi Channel, as well as a form letter that you can utilize. Help support the boycott of sponsors, and spread the word!

Sign the five primary Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions

The five primary Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions are available for you to sign and show your support for Battlestar Galactica. The five petitions listed here are endorsed by BattlestarGalactica.com. Petition #1 is the Battlestar Galactica Revival Petition to signal the sincere hopes that original cast members (and their characters) be considered for regular roles in the new Battlestar Galactica pilot/ongoing series. Petition #2 is the Battlestar Galactica DVD Petition to urge Vivendi Universal and Studios USA to seriously consider the release of ALL episodes of the original Battlestar Galactica television series on DVD/VHS formats. Petition #3 is the Battlestar Galactica New Series Petition aimed directly at the current Sci-Fi Channel happenings and utilizes stronger wording. Petition #4 is the Battlestar Galactica Fight for Survival Petition to support the new Battlestar Galactica production only if it is done right with direct linage of the original series and includes core members of the original cast in their original roles and includes the original Galactica ship. Petition #5 is the Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Advertiser Boycott Petition and states that the thousands of fans are left little choice but to fight back in the only way left to us. We will vote with our wallets and pocketbooks. To those advertisers on the Sci-Fi Channel, we caution you: Beware! We will boycott your advertised products for a period of two years if you sponsor the Battlestar Galactica re-imagining on the Sci-Fi Channel. These are five petitions that are endorsed by BattlestarGalactica.com and BattlestarPegasus.com. You can make a difference by signing the petitions yourself, and be sure to alert your family, friends, and fellow fans as well to visit BattlestarGalactica.com and sign the petitions!

Sign the four additional Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions

The four additional Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions are also available for you to sign and show your support for Battlestar Galactica. The Battlestar Galactica Richard Hatch Petition respectfully requests that Richard Hatch make his trailer, "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" available to be shown on the Internet. Richard Hatch -IS- listening! If you agree with the petition, then sign the petition to make your voice heard. The Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Management Petition requests a change in management at the Sci-Fi Channel. The petition urges the Sci-Fi Channel to focus more on sci-fi programming, including Battlestar Galactica, instead of broadcasting non sci-fi television shows, or axing sci-fi shows that have done well, such as Lexx and Farscape. The Battlestar Galactica Save Starbuck Petition is a humorous petition, but for a serious matter: Ron Moore's new Battlestar Galactica mini-series script for the Sci-Fi Channel calls for Starbuck to become a female! Starbuck, one of the original series' most popular characters, becomes Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in the new mini-series, and "Starbuck" is merely her radio call sign. If you want Starbuck to remain a male and make your voice heard, be sure to sign the Battlestar Galactica Save Starbuck Petition. Finally, the Battlestar Galactica No Re-Imagining Petition is a succinct petition that supports Richard Hatch's "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" continuation concept over the Ron Moore re-imagining felgercarb. You can make a difference, so be sure to sign the four additional petitions, after you sign the five primary petitions!

6. Featured Updates: BattlestarGalacticaClub.com

Articles and Fan Fiction

Fourth Week of March, 2003

I'm happy to announce that all of the interactive storylines & role-playing game notes from Delphi Forums have been uploaded to our web site in the "Articles & Fan Fiction" section. This was a major project I've been working on over the past six months. Since Delphi Forums does not have the ability to export notes, all notes had to be manually copy-and-pasted, twenty notes at a time, into text files and then cleaned up with Microsoft Word. All notes have been posted to our web site in paragraph form. This means that all tabs, indents, and line breaks in each note have been replaced with a single space. That way each note from Delphi Forums only takes up one paragraph on the web site. This will make it a lot easier for newcomers and visitors to read our notes from Delphi, which are now classified as fan fiction. Also, personal signatures from Delphi have been removed from each note as well. Other than the spacing updates and removal of account signatures, all notes are otherwise intact. Each note will appear as originally written, and this includes any typos and spelling errors. Since there are thousands upon thousands of notes now published on our web site, I thought it better to keep all notes in the authors original format, rather than attempt to correct any spelling or grammatical errors. All interactive storylines & role-playing game notes from Delphi Forums were included in this project so there are no missing topics. Enjoy! Note: Our former 4-year home on DelphiForums.com had 8,590 posts from its opening day of 6/6/1998 to its closing day of 4/6/2002. Of the 8,590 posts, 4,726 notes were role-playing game notes, and 3,864 notes were other discussion notes.

Artwork Showcase

Second Week of March, 2003

BattlestarGalacticaClub.com has just received four (4) new screen shots of the upcoming Battlestar Galactica video game from Universal Interactive! Battlestar Galactica for PS2 and XBOX is a console video game coming on September 17, 2003. The video game is set in a prequel time period, before the original Battlestar Galactica, and before the upcoming Battlestar Galactica remake mini-series from the Sci-Fi Channel. Screen Shot #1 is of an earlier Colonial Viper, predecessor to the Starhound-class Colonial Vipers seen in the television series. Screen Shot #2 is of earlier Cylon Raiders and a Cylon Baseship. Screen Shot #3 is of the Battlestar Galactica in earlier yahrens, without some of the hardware upgrades seen in the television series. Screen Shot #4 is a sales information sheet that mentions: "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - Release Date: September 2003 - Genre: Space Shooter - Format: PS2, XBOX - ESRB: E (Anticipated) - Product Description: Battlestar Galactica delivers a compelling and immersive space action experience as players move seamlessly between stunning cinematics and epic space battles against the insidious, mechanical power of the Cylons. - Product Features: A license with a loyal, avid consumer base that will see a huge revitalization with the new Sci-Fi mini-series and home video initiatives - Fly Vipers, Raiders, and other ships on a variety of missions including attack, escort, and defense of the Galactica - An immersive experience which seamlessly combines engaging gameplay and movie-quality cinematics - Massive space battles set around gigantic, high-poly capital ships (with destructible objects, such as turrets, engines and cannons), while dozens of AI ships dogfight." First Three Questions Answered in Ask David Eick

The Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica web site now features the first three questions for mini-series producer David Eick. The three questions are some of the most important and frequently asked. The three questions are: 1) "Why did you decide to 'reimagine' Battlestar Galactica rather than continue where the original series left off?" 2) "Was there anything in particular you felt was a problem with the old show that you specifically wanted to change with this new version?" 3) "Why did you choose to make Starbuck a woman, rather than just adding new female characters?" Although not good for the classic Battlestar Galactica fans, and unacceptable to many, the format of the three questions and answers are certainly a public relations move by the Sci-Fi Channel. For the latest P.R. check out the following link at the Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica web site.

An Unbiased Format Poll

An important new poll was recently posted by TwoBrainedCylon, and fans are encouraged to vote as soon as possible. Here is the announcement from Two-Brain: "At Summoner's request, I've added a poll and will try to make sure the results, whatever they are, end up in the decision maker's hands. This poll will be totally impartial (despite any preferences I have). With the results, I will forward information regarding what steps I took to screen out ballot stuffing and what vulnerabilities the data may have as well. I will share the data and screening methods with two RDM supporters and two Continuation supporters. If you think you're a valid candidate, e-mail me. Sorry to do this all again. The poll is the first thing at the top of the page. I encourage everyone interested in the future of BSG to voice their opinion." (i.e. One each, for each of the celebrities). Once this is done, and I know that it may take time, I would like to present them to Dwight and Dirk, simply to express to them how much we appreciate them and all that they have done, and are continuing to do, (in their careers), which we find so inspirational about them." Write Edward James Olmos!

Battlestar Galactica fan and revival activist JJRAKMAN posted a new request at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums: "On his official web site he reports having signed to star in the new BSG production. I'm suspecting that with the 'back door' way in which TPTB work, he may be unaware of the general feelings of the existing fan base. Maybe we should clue him in. Also maybe let him know that it's not personal, that we wouldn't mind if he played a member of the council of twelve or something, but that the existing production as it stands is unacceptable. Maybe even place his name on the boycott list, to boycott any production he is associated with should he go through with Moore-Ron's vision, or lack there of. Point him to the bulletin boards, to the petitions, to the boycott site. Let him know of the general anger over this production. Mr. Olmos' address: Olmos Productions, 500 S. Buena Vista St., Old Animation Bldg. 1G2, MC 1803, Burbank, CA 91521." Be sure to visit the web site of Edward James Olmos where you can write and make a difference.

Mini-Series Teaser Trailer at SciFi.com

The Battlestar Galactica mini-series teaser trailer has just been posted at the Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica web site. The teaser trailer is in QuickTime format and in two sizes: 320 x 180 (1.56 MB) and 192 x 108 (476 KB). The teaser trailer is apparently the same version that was shown during the recent 'Children of Dune' mini-series event on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Battlestar Galactica Promo on Sci-Fi Channel

New report from Phillip Lozano at the Battlestar Galactica Discussion List: "Anyone see Children of Dune last night? (The first episode was an adaptation of Frank Herbert's thin second Dune tome 'Dune Messiah,' but the next two eps adapt the third). There were two brief promos for the new BSG during the show. The first, just a momentary close-up of a Cylon visor (old footage), the familiar electronic whirring sound the bouncing red eye makes and then a logo flashed on during a bit that promoted their upcoming programs. The second was a longer one which showed an animated red eye powering up and then moving back-and-forth, with another flash of the logo, and an additional message saying 'Coming December 2003.' Is this the first promo they've run for the new show? It seems rather misleading (esp. with the use of classic footage), since they've changed everything that people liked about the old show." Direct Line to Original Costumer for Colonial Warrior Uniforms

Battlestar Galactica fan Macloud posted a new announcement at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums for a new source for classic Battlestar Galactica uniforms. "Thanks to those who replied to my original query, and I thought I'd share the very exciting results of my research. I have contacted an industry costumer who worked on the series, and who has access to all the original patterns and materials, and who's work is second to none. This means everything is EXACT, right down to the real suede shoulders on the warrior's fully lined jacket, the proper quilting length on the front, fully lined and batted, tailored to perfection. EXACT color match and detail, down to every small design element. And now the capper, he's able to make a complete uniform, custom tailored to your measurements for $700.00!! That includes jacket, tunic and pants, durably crafted to last. This is NOT fan made quality, but a top industry craftsmen who is willing to create these uniforms again. After seeing his remarkable work, I am contracting him to create the uniforms for the actors involved in our production for Galacticon 2003, and through my company, he's willing to make this offer. We're making nothing on this deal, I just wanted to share my discovery with fellow fans of the show, so anyone could have access to the real deal. Please feel free to contact me if this is of interest to you, this is the slow season in the industry, and he and his staff have the time now, I don't know what the future will hold. He has also informed me, that for the same cost as the standard warrior jacket, he can produce a BRIDGE OFFICER'S JACKET, in the correct midnight blue, with black shoulder pieces in real suede! Only one was ever made for the show for Terry Carter, and never seen. Imagine what that looks like! All detail in silver, trim and buckles. Turn around in very fast for custom work at 4 weeks from payment, for a one of a kind, custom made 100% accurate uniform. If this is something you've always wanted, don't miss this chance guys, as a film producer and long time fan of the series, I'm not exaggerating how magnificent this work is." Those interested in this uniform deal can contact Macloud at the following link at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums.

Don Bergren and David Kerin Comment on Zoic Studios

Two prominent Battlestar Galactica fan CGI artists have commented on the recent report that Zoic Studios will be doing the Visual Effects for the new Battlestar Galactica mini-series. Don Bergren commented at Colonial Fleets: "Hello all. It's been a long road but the future is right around the corner. I have been allowed to express that Zoic Studios has indeed been awarded the FX contract for the upcoming Battlestar Galactica. For the first time here I am openly stating that Galactica is coming back! I've waited many years for this moment and now the time is at hand. Lee Stringer, who works with Zoic, will be heading this FX team. There could not be a better man for the job. Stay tuned to this interfleet broadcasting channel for all updates. Long Live the true Battlestar Galactica!". David Kerin commented at the Sci-Fi Channel BBoard: "With the special effects now in their hands I can at least rest assured that the production will be visually exciting, even stunning, while remaining faithful to the designs we know and love. The first true sign to me that the powers that be are starting to make some proper decisions and I fully support this. For the first time in almost a year something has me excited about this project. Now if it will only be taken in a direction that will not erase the original I'll be even happier and more supportive. Off to a good start... let's keep it going." This is very good news from Don and David regarding the special effects for the new mini-series. The Zoic Studios web site can be viewed at ZoicStudios.com.

Moore's Galactica Is Less

Battlestar Galactica fan and CGI animator Steve Parady wrote an outstanding letter that was just published in the Sci-Fi Channel's Science Fiction Weekly - Letters to the Editor section. Steve Parady writes: "I happened upon the new Battlestar Galactica page at www.scifi.com/battlestar/ and read with great interest the letter from Ron Moore about the new project. Being a fan of the original, I am a little perplexed at some of news. I don't remember Starbuck being a woman in the old series. I can agree with much of what Ron Moore says, especially going into more depth and complexity in the characters. No one wants to see the clock set back to 1978 in this show. I do disagree with him on this though: Why can't the new show coexist with the storyline established in the original Battlestar Galactica, rather than denying that to us? Prequels worked with Star Wars and a continuation 80 years later worked for Star Trek: The Next Generation. Could Ron Moore's script be adapted to work in that way, too? Ron Moore speaks of waking a slumbering giant with this show. I'm afraid that with his current script, he is not waking up that giant, but substituting it with a white elephant." Many thanks to dvo47p for posting the report at Colonial Fleets.

Battlestar Galactica DVD Set Release Date

Battlestar Galactica fan and Universal representative contact scifiman76 posted an inspiring report at the Sci-Fi Channel BBoard regarding the Battlestar Galactica DVD Set: "The Battlestar Galactica DVD set has been delayed till first quarter 2004. It will be released well after the new mini-series has aired and possibly after a regular series has been approved. Also in that same quarter is another single DVD called 'Battlestar Galactica' is due for release. No information provided on that disc but I am sure it is the Moore mini-series on DVD or maybe a re-release of the widescreen version of the pilot with sensurround sound instead of mono. Who knows... Anyways that is the info I have from MCA/Universal." Reports so far indicate that this may very well be accurate. Thanks to scifiman76 for posting the news at the Sci-Fi Channel BBoard.
