Default Biodiesel- stick corn in your gastank!!!

Did you guys see Darryl Hanna on O'Reilly yesterday?

She uses a really unique and new energy souce for her car- biodiesel. And it looks like it has some real advantages.

First of all its environmentally clean. No bad stuff going into the air. It doesn't require engine modification. It will run in a standard diesel engine. The cost isn't too bad, just about 25 cents more per gallon than the average can of gasoline. It is even easier on your engine cause the fuel is OIL so its naturally more lubricating for engine parts. it even smells nice.

And the price won't fluctuate at the drop of an Opec whim. We no longer will be tied to countries with scores of fanatics. Everything we need to produce the fuel is here. No need to spoil our national parks and reserves with more oil wells. You can even recycle all that vegetable oil resteraunts throw out to create it.

And instead of feeding rich arrogant sheiks, we will be buying the raw material from our own farmers!

The only real problem is that it doesn't hold well under freezing conditions. You have to use an electric heater to keep the thiing from freezing. But that don't really seem too bad.

This sounds like a corny concept to me.

Sorry, couldn't resist that.

That was great! Did you see when Hanna said about mr diesel turning up dead. O'Reily just glossed over it.

that sounds good to me, i wish we could get away from opec and all the crap that comes with them. i was watching an special on hydrogen powered engines. they were asking people how much more would the people pay for the hydrogen engine than an regular engine. one guy said he did not want to pay any extra. i would pay 15%extra if it got us off the tit of the oil rich countries.

look how much we are spending on fighting terrorism. Bush just asked for something like 80 billion additional funds.

stop buying oil and you deprive terrorism of its money AND you take away a huge incentive to attack us. And we can sit back and watch these oil countrys go bust and tear each other apart instead of us.

So, anybody care to explain (or try to) why the administration pushes for drilling in a wildlife preserve (apparently for an amount of oil that might last us a week), rather than invest in alternative, virtually endless sources like this?

I could $urely give hint$, but $ome Republican$ in the audience might take offen$e.

Its not just republicans Dawg. Every politician is ruled by special interest groups. Each one making big campaign donations. The democrats just have different interests.

Remember, gasoline isn't the only culprit. It also helps to push for soy and corn oil based plastics, which are biodegradeable. Hemp also makes excellent plastics and polymers, including a compound which is nearly identical in property to cement.

Petroleum is also a common chemical additive in many household products, from petroleum jelly to some cosmetics. Read labels, you'd be amazed!

Tom, while my statement was meant somewhat tongue-in-cheek, I only specified Republicans because that's the party Dubya is slaved to - I mean, belongs to. I find Democrats to be as selectively blind as Republicans. Because of that, I belong to no political party.

Agreed. But if that were just about all it was used for, rather than fuel, the effect would be the same. Besides, there are alternatives for those additives, too, aren't there?

BTW, be careful about supporting hydrogen fuel cells as an alternative fuel. I like them, myself, but right now the best way to get hydrogen for them is from natural gas..... You know where natural gas comes from, don't you?

I'm all for the use of alternative sources - when available, I buy them myself.

Plenty. You'll have a hard time finding any petroleum containing products at my place.

The point I was making is that while we rid ourselves of petroleum dependency, it's good to think of all the uses for it in addition to gas.

Since the 1970's there have been nearly a dozen perfectly viable fossil-fuel alternatives devised. The corn based, and gasahol derivitives are at the front of the list. The oil companies always buy up the patents and suppress them. There is just too much money to be made in oil, the infrastucture runs too deep. And yes, with the current administration being made up of oil men, there will be no change. We'll continue to use gas until every last drop of oil on the planet is gone. Only then will the water-based engines be introduced. And OPEC will find a way to charge us $3.00 a gallon for it too.

in that news bit i saw on hydrogen engines, the country with the largest natural gas supply is russia. we have a good supply of natrual gas but russia controls more than 30%.

i would rather boost russias economy than continue to give it to the shieks in islamic countrys that continue to attack us. if they dont want our money let them eat sand. let them all die and go meet allah. (note not talking about arabic people, just the ones that support attacks on america or any other free country.)
