Space 1999: Which season?
OK. Any Space 1999 fans out there?
Which is your favourite season? One or two?
I'm a season two man myself. The scripts might not be as good, but the pace of the stories is faster and the characters seem warmer. Catherine Schell's a big plus as well!
Regards,
Peter

Both seasons are good but I prefered season 1. However I wouldn't mind spending the weekend with Maya.

On Balance
Season one ....
Would haven't minded season two so much if ahem there'd been a little 'continiuty' about what had happened to certain personnel and places ... I found the transition a little jarring and I missed Victor especially. If there was an explanantion it never registered with me <g>
Maya wasn't too bad but Tony jarred me all the series - like how did he get to be second in command, he wasn't anywhere to be seen first series ? <g>..
I agree though the stories seemed to be better paced though ...
Fingers

i have a few of season one on vcd, so i would say i am a season one guy. the pilot episode was well thought out and i liked the way the story line moved.
did not see most of season 2. i need some of the episodes to make a fair judgment.

I have similiar thoughts. I liked the pacing of season two, but I prefer the harder reality of the first Season. Loved Maya. Really missed Victor.
btw- we need to talk to Michael Faries. There was this excellent professional quality re-edit of several episodes by a fan. He managed to merge the 1st season episode where it was dreamt(?) that the base was destroyed and brought in scenes of battle of the second season characters. It made a really good bridge episode between the two seasons.

I love Space 1999 but it was so long ago that I don't remember what season I prefer. I know shame on me.

Re: Space 1999: Which season?
When I was really little...when the show was first on... I think I liked the action of the second season. However I never liked Maya. And I felt Tony took away good Alan Carter time. Now I actually love the first season for all the quality they put into the series. Fantastic stuff! I though have also come to appreciate Tony and Maya. Good actors with less than stellar scripts.

True. Y1 made you think. Even wonder. I especially liked The Last Sunset.

Re: Space 1999: Which season?
From when I was a kid there were several episodes that always stood out in my memory. And until the show came out on DVD they stayed that way as it wasn't rerun much. The Last Sunset was one, which was awesome seeing the moon with an atmosphere. Another Time, Another Place was another, with the two moons around an Earth. Gaurdian of Piri, with Katherine Schell who would later play Maya. And of course Dragon's Domain with the screaching space monster that scared the crap out of this 8 year old.
And seeing it all cleaned up on Bluray makes the miniatures look incredible. Yes you can see a wire here and there, but the production design from miniatures to sets were top notch all the way. Season 2 still had some fine production design and effects, but sadly the story/writing approach went drastically down hill.
