The solution to make the Neo's Happy
I've been asked, what would I do to save the RDM script. This is it if I wanted to do that:
First, change the Cylons to Warrior Robots as I said (or even clone warriors if you wanted).
Second, make the characters a settlement of the lost 13th tribe. As was pointed out, they didn't start out heading for Earth and word got back to the Colonial Worlds somehow where the 13th tribe had gone. Having their first settled world obliterated and having them force to migrate would explain how word got back to the colonies. This was never explained in the original. When the robots overran their home, the survivors would head off to find the other 12 tribes. The script could remain on one planet and the other continuity problems would go away. They end up finding Earth instead (at the end of a series if this became a series). Somewhere along the way, some group would have to get lost or opt to continue onward until they reached the colonies.
