Should have known???
Not that I'm being critical here, but if attendance due to advanced ticket purchases was low or not high enough, shouldn't the organizers have known this and planned accordingly to step up the advertising in time??
How is it that you are now saying that not enough advertising has occurred only now at the 11th hour??
I will do what I can to spread the word and I hope that this thing succeeds, because just like what happened at the 15th yahren celebration, it didn't look good when only a couple hundred people show up to a major event like this!!!

A little too late?
I've been letting people know about Galacticon on other sites for several months now.
But it would have behooved people to panic a lot earlier in the game than on the day the con's to happen. I mean, how many people can actually afford to suddenly try to come up with the money for plane/hotel fair, etc at the last minute?
A couple of weeks ago, even, would've been good...

I posted on this topic at Cylon Alliance. Basically a history lesson from 1993. Not al the factors are the same, though. I have wondered for years what impact the low turnout at the 15 Yahren reunion had on the BSG revival.

Yes you all are right. But we have to do what we can. It seems the fanbase here especially nathan has done more to advertise galactica than the person in charge of advertising.
But we can cast blame, or we can do some posting.

doing my part
I'm going to be there. But its a little late to try to drag more people than those already going. I was at the 15 yahren one and yes, it was very disappointing to have such a small turnout in the cavernous main halls.
I would have thought the organizers would have learned from the mistakes of the past.
If there is a really low turnout, I'm sure Universal will point to that as a symbol that the fans of old Galactica are just a small group of obsessed fanboys/girls
Come on people, REPRESENT!!!

If only
If only there was a way for us to be there without having to actually "be there."
I for one can't make the journey across the country, but rest assured I will be there in spirit.

I've asked my family in LA to make some noise to their friends and co-workers, since I cannot be there in person, either.
I am with my friends there, though, in spirit.

Damn your attendance is not there. I think have advertised this con on and off over the last year at Scifipulse.net
If i'd have had a couple days notice I could have done something more, but am afraid it is too late now considering that the convention has already started.
However I noticed Trektoday.com posted a little about Ron Moores involvment in their news bullets so you may well get a few die hard trekkers and Moore fans turn up. I hope its a success. If I was not here in Gloomy old England I would be with you guys at the con but unfortanatley the plane fair and the cost of accomadations and the actuall con would have been to much for me to bare without some sort of sponsership.

I haven't seen an ad in the newspaper, nor an article or mention. Not even in the entertainment section. Local news seems to be oblivious to.
Internet is good, but that's mostly people too far away. If only scifi wasn't manned by Bonnie. One commercial would have done wonders.

The trouble is, to advertise in Newspapers costs money, and if your talking about advertising in specialist Sci Fi Magazines it costs more money.
We have the same trouble here in the UK with conventions. More often than not you will hear about one at the very last monent, and if you are on a limited budget you will more often than not have to opt out of goinf due to the short notice thing.
The one good thing about advertising on the Internet is that more often than not you will be able to advertise for free. Which is why Universal and many other media companys send websites like mine press releases. However the downside is, not as many people are on the internet as you would think.
I have an ongoing arguement with Michael Hinman at Sy Fy Portal about this. He says that 5 Million viewers will watch the new mini and also says that the puriest groups that are threatoning to boycott the show only account for a small percentage of Sci Fis expected audience for the mini, in fact he quotes that their our only 17.000 people who will be boycotting which he says is a small percentage.
Where his argument is full of holes, is the fact that the 17.000 he is talking about our all those with internet connections that have actively been threatoning boycot since news broke about the mini last year, he hasn't taken into account those viewers that do not have an internet connection.
So for conventions the internet is a pretty powerful advertising tool, but it is not the only advertising tool.
