Stuart Townsend, the Irish actor best known to genre fans as Lestat in Queen of the Damned and Dorian Gray in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and best known to Us Weekly fans as Charlize Theron’s boyfriend, has signed on to star in ABC’s new series pilot The Night Stalker, according to Reuters.
Of course, the new show, which is being produced by X-Files vet Frank Spotnitz, is based on the old Darren McGavin thriller series Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Townsend will replace McGavin as Kolchak, a newspaper reporter who investigates strange phenomena with tongue planted firmly in cheek.
Gabrielle Union, who will play Alice Kramden in the upcoming The Honeymooners redux, is also joining the cast of The Night Stalker.
