i've become an addict of halo, so i thought a nice thread about it would be nice so we can throw helpful hints around.

so please fill free to send any advise you might have, here.

i just got tranported by a little blue monitor and it wants me to follow it, only problem i only live about 30 seconds. any hints you have would be appreciated

One word: shotgun. The shotgun kills the flood better than any other weapon. Make lliberal use of grenades. Also, resist the urge to rush through the next several areas. The flood quickly drowns you. Proceed slowly, kill of all the flood, collect ammo, move a little further ahead. Retreat to safe areas is not a stain on your honor either. This is probably the most creepy and tough section of the game.

Good advice, cranky. I did the exact same thing you just described to get through the final stages of Halo.

it basically takes....lots...and lots...of patience.

I first played halo at a medium difficulty setting, then played it again more recently at the maximum difficulty setting (at max difficulty the cut scenes have some slight differences, with a funny addition at the end.) It's tough going, but I emerged from doing the second run a much better FPS player.

Yes...Legendary is indeed VERY, VERY, dauntingly difficult.

Right now...I am playing through the library level on HARD. I am steeling myself for when I face the challenge of LEGENDARY.

thanks for the tips

ok so i finish the library, i disable the generator, i enter i think cave bi fought my way out of a couple rooms and across the bridge, now the swarm is everywhere and i can not for the life of me figure out how to pass this area, when i take it slow the swarm is all over me, and by the same token if i charge in gunning i.m dead in no time. one way or another i'll get through

I think Cortana guides you to a bay that has a whole mess of Warthogs. Hop in one...and hightail it in the direction Cortana tells you. You will only have so much time, and trust me...it does take several tries just to get to the first check point. Don't stop and smell the roses...or the flood either. Just gun it..and get to the way points as fast as you can.

I'm not sure I understand where you are. Are you back on the ship and trying to escape the reactor explosion? Can you post a screen shot?

When you nail the third gennie, I think that is when cortana directs you to where the Warthog bay is.

i'm following the prophet of truth, and i've entered a room, and as soon as i enter it cortona says"maybe you should think about sitting this one out" there are covenant forces fighting each other everywhere, how do i pass this level?
