Repost from scifiwire.com:

Fans of the original Battlestar Galactica TV series announced that they have raised $10,000 to buy national advertisements urging series creator Glen A. Larson and X-Men producer Tom DeSanto to develop a theatrical feature film that picks up the story where the 1970s TV series left off. The fan campaign, organized by The Colonial Fan Force, is a reaction to the SCI FI Channel's upcoming original series Battlestar Galactica, which picks up the story from the Galactica miniseries that aired last December, reimagining the show with a new cast and new premise.

The campaign plans to buy ads in the September issue of Cinescape magazine and the Sept. 17 edition of Daily Variety. The campaign also urges fans to write letters.

SCI FI's Battlestar Galactica, starring Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, is currently in production in Vancouver, B.C., and is expected to premiere in January 2005.

Reaction, bah! We just want the classic Coke and they can make as much new Coke as they like.

Reactions are instantaneous, unplanned things. CFF is just saying (again) what has been said for the last 6-7 years by fans--only to a more targeted audience:

MOVIE.

I am pleased to see the CFF get exposure, but why am I not surprised that scifiwire would only carry this news AFTER the CFF had achieved its goal ?

Perhaps because they did not want to help us ? Or, did not want to see the possibility a better programme being made than the one that keep plugging in this article about the CFF...

But any publicity is good publicity...

Ernie, I think they did do right by us and carry a blurb about us earlier, when we were 1/4 of the way there.

but my summer task is fine tuning a list of entertainment media contacts so that press releases can be sent when the ads run to get some additional exposure then.

How many 25-26 yr old fanbases with an alternate universe to their show in production are going to put up $10,000 in 3 months time just to make it clear that they still want their show to fly again too? That in itself is news.

Default re: reaction

I actually did wonder if CFF was in part a reaction to the new show. I wondered if it would have happened if miniseries didn't piss people off. But it doesn't matter if it is or isn't. I don't see that as diminishing the integrity of the CFF effort.

Some may think of CFF as an expression of their disgust at the miniseries. Others may think that if the miniseries can be made, then the original revival can happen too.

I support just one thing. Having fun. I enjoyed the old series. And I hope to one day see more of it.

Oh and btw... Scifi Wired is a bit biased. It is after all designed to push scifi channel reputation in the science fiction community.

That's wonderful. I sent in my money order but noticed I wasn't on the list of donors.
I have henceforth found out why .............the envelope and the money order were
damaged and never made it OVER to CF.

I was so PISSED. But considering my situation now ...........with one kids doc's and
meds not covered by my insurance and the other kid who will have to go to the same
doc ................... I can't say I wasn't relieved to see the money back in my finger tips
since the only thing left of the money order was the NUMBER that I needed in order
to get the money back.

When my situation is improved and when CF is ready for another push for fund
raising for ads and such ..................... I will donate ........although not as much
as I 'did' the first time.

I am truely sorry that my donation never made it into CF.

NOTE: If you ever need insurance don't go with any insurance pronounced 'LOVELESS'

I don't know if Ron Moore had a secret agenda for contributing to CFF but he isn't "disgusted" with his creation

Of course he isn't Winemaster. And I doubt there was much "motivation" beyond respect for what the fans were trying to do. I can see where from his viewpoint 2 Galacticas could mutually benefit each other with increased exposure.

I.e.: Name another franchise with 2 shows concurrently operating in alternate universes to each other. Trek doesn't count because the series and movies didn't violate each other's stories when they were concurrently made, and they were coexisting stories in the same universe. Can you name one yet? OK, that is what one would call "built-in news coverage and commentary worthy". Publicity is always good in Hollywood.
