1997 Special Edition--is this the altered one that people dislike or is this BEFORE Lucas went -a -tinkering with his best stuff?

Jewels all of the films will be the special editions. I believe there was a petition to also have Lucas give the fans the unaltered ones as well.

Wow, I think I have the originals on VHS somewhere.
I have no problem with the remakes though (imagine that).

Good luck trying to get Lucas to release the original versions. Believe there are several articles on the net saying that this release is the directors version, as Lucas originally meant it to be shown and he doesn't plan on releasing the original versions. At least this time around he included a 4th dvd with extras.

For those that want to sign the petition in hope to once again influence Lucas and get him to change his mind: http://www.originaltrilogy.com/ The original Star Wars to DVD petition gathered over 30,000 signatures within a few months. At the moment, only the people that bought the laser disc and/or laser disc sets have the original, as shown versions that they can enjoy as long as their laser players last. The VHS crowd has to buy replacements and have to be careful not to buy the special editions by mistake.

Thanks for the news Kingfish . Amazing he waited this long (?)

Wish they were the unfooled with version, but at least we're finally able to get it. Had to unhook my laser cuz there was no room so it's been a long time since I've watched them. Maybe Mr. Lucas will realize later he can have his saber and eat it too -- and later release the originals to us videophiles -- hey, it's money!

I actually like the special editions. All except the Hans Solo reedit of the under the table gunfight.

I especially prefer the new ending to the 3rd movie. Much better than overly happy ewoks music.

Many SW fans began to appreciate the Ewoks after seeing (suffering?) thru Jar Jar Blinks.

I wont be buying anything else with the star wars name attached to it.
I sat through all 3 special editions and episodes 1 and 2 hoping against hope somehting good would come of it.
But so far nadda.

The characters in Final fantacy had a greater range of emotion than the actors in episode 1 and 2.

Lucas is doing exactly what fans of BSG feared the mini would do to bsg.
Except BSG fans at least still have there show pristine and unaltered.

SW fans will never see the original trillogy agan.

So true. I could shoot myself for not buying them when they were introduced in the THX remastered versions.
