Maren's really quite good!
Having watched the deleted scenes from Saga of a Star World, it seems to be a bit of a myth about Maren Jensen's acting ability.
In the scenes I viewed that take place in Adama's quarters, she is never anything less than convincing.
Also the dialogue in the scenes is incredibly well written.
Regards,
Peter

I really have to agree here. Frankly, I think she's fantastic in Saga of a Star World and the Lords of Kobol, and good in Fire In Space. I don't know what all the complaints are about.... Now as the show went on she kind of got lost with the introduction of Sheba. Her role suffered a lot as she became more and more just window dressing on the bridge of the Galactica, but overall I thought she was fine.

agreed
Maren was great in Saga of a Starworld, except for the last part where she said "but how?" That was a really obvious script joke, a little too obvious. Not her fault.
I thought her scene when Starbuck lands was great, she really jousted with him in that scene and I loved the look on her face when she said "The Colonies are gone! All of them!"
Her scene with Adama where she says "Oh Zac! ...and all the others... they trusted us to protect them!" I thought that was more emotional than any other scene on the show, including Serina's death.
So LAY OFF MAREN!!!

I always thought she was Fine as a Actress. it's just easier I think for short-sighted people to rely on cliches," Oh heres another Model trying to Act "

The boots
They talked at the Con about how Maren hated those boots that the pilots wore in "Saga..." - (they're motocross boots). She had a hard time walking in them. And even with that handicap, I agree, I think she did a pretty good job!

I really loved her as Athena! I can't imagine anyone else in that role!

Boots.
I have to admit, it is hard to walk properly in those Sidi motocross boots. I have a pair for my costume and they are pretty stiff! But Maren looked good in ANYTHING she wore!!!!
I think the boots made the women look quite sexy and definitely like a Warrior. Too bad they couldn't find many in those smaller sizes and they resorted to those dress boots in Lost Planet, yuck!!!!

Maren
I agree Maren was excellent. In fact she is what really drew me to the show. But after the third episode Maren's part just got diluted to the point she hardly was on the show. My interest in the show got less and less...and it just got to be frustrating seeing the character Athena not being used. Then after reading the lastest article on Battlestar Galactica where Glen Larson said he wanted to replace Maren with someone else really explained it...if true. Just another bad decision in a series of them by Larson that basically messed up the show for me. It seemed he really didn't know his characters or cared about their futures.... he just had this idea of shoving too many characters who had little to do with the Adama family and messing up a great idea. This whole DVD thing brings back all the dissapointments to memory of this show... ..but at least Glen Larson did something right in hiring Maren for at least a season. I hope they find her and get her back to play Athena in a prominent if not pivotal role.....and I hope she accepts to do it ...if they ever want to follow Richard's version of BG.

The critics, of course, could never see beyond her looks. Well, they ARE critics....
