I read something to this effect as well but she didn't start it. I believe it was that the character of Zak was an inept pilot whom she passes through flight school. As a result he is killed. She doesn't tell Lee however because of the guilt she feels.

Here's a recent story from Sci Fi Wire. I imagine that the brother that Sackhoff is referring to is Zac. She also seems to indicate that the door could be open for a possible Apollo/Starbuck romance if this sad thing becomes a series. The actual article can be found here.

Quote:
9:00am ET, 21-May-03

Starbuck Won't Romance Apollo

Katee Sackhoff, who plays a female Starbuck in the SCI FI Channel's upcoming original miniseries Battlestar Galactica, told SCI FI Wire that her character won't romance fellow viper pilot Apollo (Jamie Bamber). Rather, their relationship will remain purely platonic, Sackhoff said in an interview on the miniseries' Vancouver, B.C., soundstage. "I think that there's a very tight friendship there that's gone on for a number of years, because of the fact that [Starbuck] was engaged to [Apollo's] brother."

But Sackhoff admitted that, should the miniseries be picked up as a series, anything could happen. "They'll build on it," she said. "We don't know where it's going to go." SCI FI's Battlestar Galactica will debut in December.

Unhappy

It's spelled "Zack", not "Zac" in the new.... the new....

The Thing they're making in Vancouver.

Remember, the characters are from Earth, not Kobol.

Default More crap from Sackhoff's cake hole

This is just way too creepy. It's like bringing home the hottest girl in the club only to find a "package" when going for "third base."

JJ,
You were talking about the same scifi wire article as this other thread so I merged them.

Default When I read this Sackhoff article,

I couldn't help but have the involuntary visualization of Dirk Benedict making out with Rick Springfield. Someone make it stop! Where's the brandy...

yup... and this relates to why G3 Apollo is so damn petty. He blames Husker/Adama for his brother's death.

Pretty damn weak.

He was much more interesting to when he had a unbreakable bond with his dad during horrible times. It made our noble Apollo so damn likable. That and a very charismatic actor.

Now we got crap.

If outrage at the loss of a loved one is petty then mabey Lee is being petty, but I dont see where he is being petty for standing up for his brother?
Sometimes fathers want there sons to persue a profession becasue of family tradition or other reasons.

Sometimes the son is not suited for that line of work, but because they want there father's acceptance or becasue the father pushes them they continue to persue that path even if there hopes and dreams lay elsewere.
Sometimes if the Son had an older sibling they will come to bat for the younger.

The scenerio reflects more badly on The senior Adama than Lee becasue it was either his vanity or rigid carrier military attitude that kept Zac in the military when he was not qualified.

WEll... maybe petty was...hold on... I mean it. Petty. Whiny. Its something we've seen before. Its so damn cliche. Hell... its almost exactly like watching Riker whine with his father and play that damn ridiculous blind stick game. That was one of ST:TNG lamer episodes. Up their with the turned into children one.

The reason its so bad is because its one dimensional thinking. Its a cheap plot twist to try to add interest to a character because Moore can't see the inherent story that exists there already! The whole damn human race just got shot to hell! There will be interesting stories in how they deal with a holocaust. Moore is thinking on the level of a soap opera. father hating dad is cheap soap opera.

The "conflict" is built in to the story. Cylons. End of Humanity! You don't need to be cheap. There is already incredible stories to be told. What made the old story charismatic, is that these people were a loving family BUT they were on the edge of extinction. The smiles, the camaraderie draws you in to these people. And how they face adversity makes you swept into the flow of the heroism.

The most dramatic thing that could happen was that Apollo had to make a choice, stay with his brother or warn the fleet and try to save all mankind (including his father and sister). The fact he didn't stay with Zac haunted Apollo. And it made Apollo's tender caring attempts to draw a traumatized boy out of his dispair over losing his pet so much more endearing.

THAT is what good writing is.

Having zack already dead is a loss of opportunity. Having Apollo being bitter over it is well.. cliche. It made Riker unlikable, and it will make Lee Adama a shadow of Apollo.

Thomas7G, you put it like Cicero would. Well and truly said. My own poor addition is the observation of the shallowness of Moore et al. They are like the thieves who come upon and then steal a priceless golden chalice, or a jewel-encrusted cross. Would they see it as the irreplaceable treasure it is, or rip out the jewels, and melt it down for the quick buck?
I think we know.

Geez, I'll bet Rick Springfield would hate this new Galactica... Zac would probably rather be dead than married to Starbuck. LOL

Actually, I took my wife to go see him recently at one of our local casinos. I have to say that for a 53 year old, this dude was surrounded by women who adore him. He also has a very young back-up band (with a good guitarist). He walked out into the audience and greated people, signed autographs, and let the women grope him. Say what you will about him, but if I was 53 and had that many women screaming for me, I'd feel pretty good.

Okay, so maybe it wasn't just my wife's idea to go. Rick is really cool, because I handed him a few of my Battlestar Galactica boxed ships and he signed them! Richard Hatch already signed them, so now I've got the brother's signatures. Now I just need to get Dirk's autograph.

Speaking of Movie rights, someone over at the skiffy board just game me a good one!
I can't even remember what post I replied to but I was told that the Studio owned ALL rights to BSG. I thought they only had the televison show. That Larson still could do anything he wanted in the movie aspect of this and not have to go through any red tape.
Can anyone help me with this???

Totally confused!

Sadly the story is true. Brief refference is made to it in the script, when Sackhoff in her role as the Post Op Transexual Starbuck is catching up with the British Captain Apollo on old times. She admits in the scene that she may have let her personal feelings get in the way of her objectivitie and subsequently passed Zac through flight school when she should not have.

Anyway there you go. Please do not ask me to look for the script to get the exact scene for you. My filing system is a mess. But I do know I still have it.

Not too mention the sequals should every fan support the movie. Look what happened with Star Trek. Ten years of fanzines, books and conventioned and then in 78 an abandoned TV show which would have featured all the original cast barring spock, and then a movie in 79 which won awards for innovative FX. Plus reinvigorated the franchise to the point where a further 5 movies were made followed by a successful spin off series Star Trek: The Next Generation which garnered a further 4 movies making 10 in total. Not to mention the success of Deep Space Nine, which to me was Star Trek at it's peak. Everything since DS9 has sucked. Yes I watched Voyager and I watch Enterprise, but only in the hopes that it will get better. However I have not watched any of the re runs of Voyager simply because once was enough.
