Why the original Battlestar Galactica will die
The original Battlestar Galactica will die through fan inaction. All I've seen this week is TOS fans baited by RDM fans instead of ignoring their pitifully transparent ploys to disrupt message boards and our ability to get back in the game.
I'm guilty of being goaded by them, and tonight I nearly posted something that was really below the belt on this board.
But I stopped myself. I thought, this isn't really me. I used to really love this show and now look what it's got me doing.
In the last few weeks I've had the pleasure of being in the company of fans who've not given up on the true Battlestar Galactica.
Our group has made plans – good plans IMHO to continue the fight, but those plans will come to nothing because of the distractions and fandom's inability to join together as one unit.
There's too much navel-gazing going on and a preoccupation with sticking to your little part of the fandom empire.
It's a shame because I've been a witness to some grand ideas, some of them even came from my foggy noggin. One idea I saw mid-week would really make fans smile.
When fandom can get off the pot call me, but I expect it will be too late by then.
Hopefully I'll be seeing a lot of you at Galacticon, believe me, it's going to be really fantastic!
Regards,
Peter
P.S. To Ron, David, Bonnie and Milton, you've really spread so much bad karma, that I really wouldn't like to be any of you when the fickle finger of fate catches up with you!

What he said.
Good work, Peter.
While this has had its amusing aspects, do you think we can get back on focus?

Hi Anti-Christ
Peter, look @ the Farscape fandom effort. Worldwide news yet nothing from Scifi.
On BSG:
That never so few, have had so much effect, on a such a micky mouse 'remake' before.

protest the sponsers. protest anyone who wants to buy any vivendi assets. Hit them in the pocketbooks. Its the only place they care about, they definitely don't care about the fans.

On the subject of fandom...
How many members are in the Battlestar Fan Club and are they being contacted, organized or encouraged to write Universal and SciFi?
I heard something of a protest being planned at the shooting location in Canada by the Columbia B club, but did that happen? Is it going to happen? Was that actually being planned or was it a false rumor?
I'm not asking this to piss anyone off who's associated with the clubs, just being curious. Their numbers would be a huge help in consistent writing, but I wonder if that's being done.
In my own opinion, if the various BSG clubs do not organize their members to write in protest about the reimagining on a weekly basis then we have no one to blame but ourselves.
If the clubs are doing this already, then my many thanks.
Just some thoughts from my head that spilled out on the keyboard.

Hey David, how right you are. Is the fan club even in existence any longer?
Where are the people that head it at? Shawn and Chris where have you gone?

2000?
Were/are those 2000 writing?
I know it would be impossible to get everyone to write out of the 2000, but if half of them wrote weekly, that would help.
Of course I don't know if they are or are not... which is why I first asked.
My guess/feeling is that on a whole they have not been writing. I hope I'm wrong.

I doubt that the 2000 are writing. It could also be a double count since some fo the members here belong to the club.

True Kingfish
There could be crossovers, but still, have there been near 1000 separate writers sending letters? (Including all bsg fandom)
I certainly don't know, and would certainly like to know.
As a member of BSG fandom I sometimes feel like I'm among a small group of people, yet other times a large group. It's hard to get a true sense... personally.

Don't worry,
I'm certainly not saying we're dead, but just wondering if all the troops are being called into action.

I spoke to Shawn recently- the number is more like 2,200, and yes, mobilization is underway as we speak.

Hey Peter!!!
!!! What about the Ticket-A-Thon?
That's about 6-8 hours of "Inaction" on my part? A few nights of that much inaction, and I'm gonna need a comatose vacation.
BTW, Does anyone know how to get Micheleh to Lock that Thread up to the top? It sure would be nice if I didn't have to post gibberish to that thread to keep it bumped until after X2 opens...

Actions...
Good to hear Michelle. And LSF, my evening is planned and mine and my wife's ticket stubs are ready to be sent (somehow that sounds dirty to me. But then again, alot sounds dirty to me)
Thanks,
Dave

You know David
This bums me out being single. I've gotta see this thing twice as many times as you Married Dudes to generate the same amount of Ticket Stubs...
Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and meet "Ms. Right" at the Galacticon.
It'd be nice, for a change, to have a woman whose eyes didn't role up into the back of her head every time I wanted to watch something with Spaceships in it...
Oh well, I digress...

There, there, Peter. Have a pint of Haagen Daas, and take it easy. It's not that bad, you're just bummed.
As for LSF- well, well... we could have a singles event at the con, do you think? I know, a bachelor auction! That would be funny..... lol!

Nice idea Micheleh
...but sending the Ladies running out of the room screaming in terror is hardly going to help my already fragile ego...

Yes, I think a number of us are members of the fan club, but I haven't heard anything from my regional rep in quite some time, so I'm not sure what is in the works. Hopefully, it will be good and people will respond. As for the letters, I sent my last set out a few weeks ago. Sounds like a good time to start another one.

Oh, and in response to Peter's original statement, I don't think it will die due to fan inaction, but it may never be revived as we'd like. The re-imagining has a good chance of killing the chance of revival whether or not it succeeds. If it succeeds, then there will be no need to continue the original. If it fails, V/U will be hesitant to sink any more money into what they see as a three time loser. Original fans know the truth about the original series, but those holding the purse strings still won't see it that way.
