Try doing that amount of detail in CGI!

Peter

that is gorgeous. (but it doesn't solve my "where's the Celestial dome?" question. Drat.)

If I recall correctly, Jewels, wasn't the Celestial Dome right over the engines?
I seem to recall the outside shot coming in from Galactica's left, and the dome being left of center toward the forward part of the engines (but I could be wrong about that part).
I also recall the impression that the dome was added to the picture, superimposed, later.
Based on the memory of a sick guy.....

You are correct. That is where the Celestial Dome is located.

Yes Darrell that was all I had but not that many piks. It can be done in CGI. I am currently using SolidWorks and if you have the computing power it can be done. each piece can be done with 100% accuracy with this pgm. The first serious attempt with SW was the new defender, it is 604kploys and was all my computer could handle. I have completed the new Ranger and Guardian which are much more detailed. The current "G"
was done 3years ago in Truespace and is 450kpolys. The piks of the "G"
that have been floating around will be the best "G" around and will rival any hard model. I would guess that a 1M poly model would do the job but it comes down to computing power but it can be done, I have no dought.

It is!
Seriously, I've seen some good CGI Big Gs but not one matches the real model!

Methinks we'll see that challenge met rather soon... if not already.

I agree Michael. Hito I have 7.5 but I just can't get use to the GUI.
SW is pure CAD which is perfect for what I do, the capabilities are amazing and they pay me to use it at work LOL. It will add a level of realism that is far more difficult to get any other way and then let the artists make it pretty. If I had every piece of the original "G" I could replicate them in SW and make a 100% accurate model of the original
but I don't think that will be necessary
