The finers bits of Galactica...
We keep hearing from the Moore worshippers about how bad the old series was.
How about we state here all the great bits of the old series we liked? the parts that are extraordianrily written even today.
I just tuned into the scene where apollo is consoling Boxey for the first time.
"...and stop chasing girls!"
That was an exceptional bit of writing. It showed an heroic figure reduced to the soldier who lost the war. But rather than sulking and being bitter (like the new apollo) he shines as he devotes himself "to winning some of the smaller battles"
That was a great bit of writing.
I also think the Warrior uniform looks great even by todays standards. Infact it is better than most of the designs today. YOu can't get any better.

Back on track with Thomas's thread:
Wonderful things:
Those little bits of writing like: (these are not exact, so bear with)
"Lord, I'll do whatever you want in the morning, just don't call an alert tonight"
Cheesy/Silly though it was: Jane Seymour making Richard blush in Lost Planet of the Gods pressure suit scene. I think SHE had a good time with that one, IMHO. hehehe. Way to turn the tables on the guys just by utilizing the silly costume.
Starbuck's line about being in the middle of nowhere, planet's destroyed, and HE was going to get them [he and Boomer] in trouble.
The whole Lightship/Guardians of the Universe thing.
The Terra story arc.
Apollo standing up to Iblis and the Light beings way of telling Starbuck and Sheba that Apollo was too valuable to them to let die.
Apollo's speech in Experiment in Terra (scroll down on this page to the base to see it if you don't already know what I'm talking about.
The show also had a number of wonderful sets: the bridge and the celestial dome are my favorites.
Well that was just to get this back to on track.....

The uniforms - the best that ever was.
The music - ditto, gives you chills down the spine [but does it glow?!]
Story - great.
Apollo in a training session with the women, "Go through that hatch over there." I fell off the sofa. Me: I don't want that hatch over there, I want this one!

hehe
more points:
I always loved how the show started out with an incredibly dramatic opener. scene with Zac in the beginning. It was so powerful a thing for Apollo to have to chose betweeen saving his brother or saving all of mankind. I mean you can't get a more dramatic situation than that! Mankind or your brother!
And then Zacks loss really brought home the horrible this massacre is. YOu felt it and could relate to the loss. And having his sister, Athena, watched helplessly on the radar was a great touch!
"What was that?...!"
"That was my SON, Mr President."

That was in the original but has probably been cut for commercial purposes. Another one:
Apollo and Serina had a little spat and I think Starbuck walked up as Serina was leaving. Apollo: She says I'm insensitive. Starbuck: You? If you're insensitive, what does that make me?

1. The Story
2. The music
3. The actors
4. The characters
5. The Galactica her self
6. The vipers
7. The Cylons
8. The Egyptian over tones
9. Great guest stars
10. Cool aliens
11. The mystery of it all
12. Uniforms
13. The funess of it all and how everything didn't have to be so serious.
14. Cool looking helmets
15. Its own original words.
16. Western over tones
17. A show the whole family could watch together.
18. The sets
19. Good guy always wins
20. The occasional cliff hanger
21. Best looking guns in sci fi
22. And last but by no way the least. THE FAAAAAANS.
I have more but it's late and a root canal is keeping me from thinking.
