Lightbulb Message from Korn_Fan to the fans.

I understand that K_F2 comes across as pompous and arrogant but he does have a soft spot for the BSG Fandom. I also think it was nice of him to take time off from his busy schedule to write a quick message to the fans.

He is currently head deep in finishing up the Visual Effects to the X-Men sequel "X2".

Date: 01/02/2003

OK I am very sorry about my last post with all the HEE HEE HEE HA HA HA and what not. You have to understand that I can not consider myself a fan of the original Galactica series because it still comes off to me as disco era cornball relic with a somewhat good premise. Out of the 20 or so episodes that were produced there were only 2 stories that I enjoyed. The original 3 part pilot was a good one and I also enjoyed the 2 part episode with the chain smoking, glue sniffing, speed pill popping guy from the Airplane movies, Lloyd Bridges as a rogue commander.

When I first heard of filmjerk Eddy’s article of the cast sheet I was a bit overwhelmed by laughter. I have been trying to tell the fans here for 10 months that both Ronnie and Bonnie have no love for Galactica and they had no intentions on being faithful. I even posted an article last May using the CaptainTripps handle warning the fans that Bonnie wanted to use a lot of sexual overtones through out the story. Go back and look for your self. I even mentioned about some gender changes that might take place. I did make a mistake and stated that it would be Troy that turns female and not Starbuck. From what I am being told now is the Serina character got changed into Starbuck after Dirk Benedict declined Bonnie Hammer’s offer to play Paul Tigh in the new mini series. Bonnie Hammer was so hoping that Benedict’s participation would win over many fans and he said “No Thank You”.

That alone says a lot about Dirk Benedict considering that his phone is not ringing off the hook for other acting gigs.

My behavior last month was triggered because of my bitterness that I still felt towards some of the fans that lashed out at me when I tried to warn them of things to come. The fans demanding proof was getting under my skin and I had no intentions of finking on the interns at Scifi.

If you’re reading this Bonnie Hammer those interns has moved on to bigger and better things.

I just hope we can all put it behind in the past. I no longer hold any resentment towards anyone, not even Neurmanzer.

I know I can be an a$$h0le at times but I am in the business and I know a thing or 2 that goes on in situation similar to this one.

For example did anyone know that the 2001 version of Planet of the Apes was originally conceived in 1994 as a sequel by both James Cameron and Oliver Stone and was to star Arnold Schwartzenager? It wasn’t a direct continuation of the previous films but it did acknowledge events that took place.

How it evolved into a remake would take to much time for me to explain and I am pressed for time but the main point is there were no fans to support or oppose the remake when Tim Burton took over. So what the silent majority of fans ended up with was a good performance by Tim Roth but otherwise a bland story that didn’t even come close to capturing the essence of the original. Most notably Marky Mark is no Chuck Heston.

I’ll say this much it did make money but is anyone looking forward to the sequel? I’m not. I would rather sit home and watch the original 5 DVDs on a big screen television than pay money to see the continuing adventures of Marky Mark Whalberg.

Galactica will be in the same situation. From what I can see thus far is the only resemblance to the original is the title. I have no idea on the reasons why the scifi channel will air it in 2 parts when it’s inevitable that the mini series will lose viewers after the first night. That is assuming if this remake will ever be made. I too had also been given the chance to read the script and I could only say this. Both filmjerk Edward and Michael the Galactica web master must have been in the Christmas spirit and held back a bit in the criticism because what Moore has written goes way beyond crap. These characters are so unlikable that the viewers will actually be routing for the Cylons. They make the characters of Meleroseplace look like positive role models. It’s beyond redemption. It’s beyond repair and this comes from another non-Galactica fan. I also like to add that the very very very few elements I did like about the script inregards to the some of the new Cylons are a complete rip off of what DeSanto had in mind with his evolved Cylons. David Eick is now the man who is the attempting to get the go ahead from Universal. Ronnie Moore is currently busy with an HBO project and left Davie boy in charge of getting the ball rolling so I would keep an eye on him for the time being. Now is the best time to let the studio honchos know how you feel. Keep in mind that there is still no official green light from Universal and to my knowledge, rumors of filming in March is a load of crap. Here’s a good question, who and where is your cast of unknown Canadian actors?

I know I bashed Galactica as being a disco cornball era relic but I did say it had a good premise. I do speak as an unbiased viewer and I will be first to say that Galactica has a huge potential if it were to be updated and revamped for a modern audience and set upon as a continuation of the original series. The disco era looks and elements could so easily be revamped and even though Richard Hatch is sporting the same hair cut today as he was back then I would prefer him over Lee Adama any given day.

To the fans what I am about to say is just what I firmly believe from being in this business industry. The best chance Galactica has in succeeding is in the form of a continuation. Whether it’s Tom DeSanto’s approach or somebody else that comes around and sets the story 100 years later it’s the only way Galactica would survive beyond 13 episodes.

I am sorry if I come off as over preaching on how great Tom DeSanto is but I have seen his preproduction plans. His script may need a little tweaking here and there but he was on the right track and I will go on record to say that most fans would not be disappointed with his work. I’ll also admit that the character of Apollo has a bit of a dark journey if an ongoing series were to follow. I think it is Tom’s last ditch effort to get the studio executives to allow Richard Hatch’s involvement.

The fans also need to evaluate nominee of choices.

1) You have Glen Larsen- An Ok choice but doesn’t seem to have much love or passion for Galactica and he needs to get a better partner than Todd Moyer.
2) Richard Hatch-There’s a man with a lot of love and passion for Galactica and I recently saw his trailer. It was very professional and very well done and I would also like to salute the CGI guys. On the other hand I did read his first Galactica novel and it did come across as to me as too much of a Television reunion movie. This would probably work well as a one shot deal but nothing beyond that. Also it’s a sad fact that Hatch doesn’t have the pull or the weight with in Universal. His heart is in the write place and if a continuation was ever to be produced they should damn well include Hatch.
3) Ronald D Moore, David Eick and Bonnie Hammer- Fans already know what direction their vision or lack of vision is going. Need I say more?
4) Tom DeSanto-Pro Continuation but not in the same manner as Hatch but has more pull in Hollywood and may quite possibly become the Box Office champion for at least 2 to 3 weeks this coming May.

As for the situation at hand it’s not a done deal and the fans here should be taking advantage of this and the newfound unity. Strike while the iron is hot.

If you want my professional opinion then go for a continuation, I am stressing this for experience sake.
I personally recommend Tom DeSanto but if someone else were to come around with the same passion you should do the same for that person. Be realistic ask for the kind of Continuation that is Not in the form as a reunion show, but rather picking back up and continuing the adventures that began 25 years ago.

When asking for the return of the original actors it would be best to just ask for the big three, Dirk, Richard and Herb.

Let the studios recast Athena and Troy and if necessary let them recast Adama. Could a different actor playing Adama that represents the original be any worse than Moore’s Adama?

Let them recast Troy, throw these Studio executives a bone or 2. Let them cast an up and coming stud for this role. Give these people a sense of security. Just as long as the pretty boy can act there shouldn’t be a problem.

As for this TrekLord character, I have reasons to believe that he is a conduit to the powers to be. Instead of stirring false hope to this person and making him believe that Moore’s script is repairable, just politely tell him that a continuation is the best bet.

Anyway good luck to whatever the fans decide.

Thanks for posting this Scooter. If the thing about Dirk is true: He is indeed an awesome dude. Way to take a stand.

The only persion who was going to do BSG the way hard core fans wanted was Hatch.
And like this guy says he doset have the clout or standing in hollywood to bring it that way.
Anyone other than Hatch was going to bring some of themselves to the project in the way of changes or fixes to things they saw as wrong or lacking.
I know I sure as hell would.
But fans wernt having it that way.
So in a way the inflexibility on the part of BSG fandom has left the series where it is today.

I remember when DeSanto was the man in charge and fans hated what he had to offer.
To hear them, the idea of recasting some of the original cast was as aborant to them as makeing Starbuk into a woman.
"No one else could be Adama is he crazy?!"
"He cant recast Cane. DeSanto is a jerk!"
"Richard Hatch is the only one who could do galactica right"

Now tho it is funny that that they have had just a taste of how bad it could really get they are desperate to have him back.
Had fandom been more open minded or supportive of DeSanto when it really mattered (like when he was at the helm) there might have been a BSG continuation or somthing more to the fans likeing on tv right now and Mr. Moore's new vision would not even be an issue.
Mr. DeSanto is prolly a bigger guy than this, but if i had been treated like he had been by fans back in the day...
I'd Drink a toast to my successful movie carrier, and laugh at fans as I drive off down sunset in my new cherry red midlife crisis car.

Fans could not be openly supportive of Desanto because we never knew what the hell was going on. Everything we heard was in code or whispers. What we now know about his intended vision didn't come out until the same week the Moore version was announced. Desanto held the fans at arm's length and is therefore, in my opinon, partially responsible for his project's downfall. I wouldn't say he cut his own throat, but he definitley sharpened the knife and handed it to Bonnie Hammer. Had Desanto embraced the fanbase he would have been more openly supported and it would have been much, much harder for Bonnie and Ron to do what they did.

I think the year long wait in 2001 drove the Galactica fan bonkers Hito! Not knowing what was happening was the key factor not that anyone hated his being onboard but the damn year long no news fiasco. DeSanto and Singer's news of doing BG send waves of excitement alright, here was a known hollywood director and his buddy that had clout! But this soon changes when no news came unlike all other productions going to TV that year, BG stalled and fans vented their anger at those bringing her back.

I may have had doubts on the DeSanto thing as time drew on, but venting "Get someone else" wasn't in my book. All i know is, they were at the helm and BG was coming back. In late October early November some new futuristic Cylon designs turned up (although not everybody likes them) and my hope grew even more, with only two weeks to go this was it. THEN Wham, "Production halted" jump to April 2002 when news of a remake was given out! And here we are back to square one.

Since April, alot of fans are desperate to have DeSanto back and to get wind of his script since we never read or got hold of it. I think an important question to ask is, what if the remake doesn't go ahead and Moore and co drops out. Would DeSanto come back anyway? and if not him who else is the right person for the job of doing a Galactica continuation.

I think you are giving fandom credit for having more clout than it actually does, Hito. I keep hearing over and over accusations that because the fans acted this way or that way, the production went this way or that way, and I think that is just a load of bullfelgercarb. They NEVER gave a rat's ass about what the fans thought or did. That is very obvious now. It's too easy to rub salt in our wounds and say "because the fans misbehaved, we decided to go with RonDMoore's abortion of Battlestar Galactica."

They were going to screw us over ANYWAY! Whether or not we sent them flowers and love letters and jumped through every hoop they could hold up, or cursed and spat on their mother's graves, we were always going to get the same outcome. They were never going to give us what we want. Now they hold up Languatron and a few other trolls as the reason they decided to go with a remake. I don't believe that for a minute. Saying fan's behaving badly was the reason for all of this is just icing on the cake for them. A cake which was always going to be baked the way they wanted it - right from the start. What we want has never mattered, and it still doesn't matter. It will only begin to matter to them when and if we refuse to watch this piece of garbage and if we can organize an effective attack on their sponsors.

The fight to get Battlestar Galactica done the right way is over. All we can do now is make our displeasure known and make sure this thing bombs abysmally. That is the only consolation prize left for us.

True and plus we watched all that Richard did for the show and we had to have time to get over the fact that he wasn't going to be given the chance to do the show even though in my books, the trailer proved that he could.

But as far as I'm concerned, in no way does this Ron Moore crap compare to the Desanto situation. Right now it's 99% of the online fan base knowing that we are getting crapped on and that's what we get for our 25 years of loyalty.

Just my opinion of course.

Moore isn't allowed to either, yet he does it anyways.

Hammer never liked DeSanto's version (hence the undermining of his efforts). But she likes Moores.

She didn't DeSanto's version version because

A) It was in her opinion to expensive to produce and Moore knew a cheaper way of doing things

B) She does not I repeat DOES NOT LIKE the BSG fans. I had two friends from college that interned over at Sci-Fi that told me this as well as her uninterest in spacebound science fiction.
